When I finally get back in game, I think I'm going to name the Miranda-class ship my new Fed character starts out with (when I get to play the new tutorial) as the U.S.S. 18897741, in memory of the error that's kept me crashed out of the game for the last two weeks...
"If you can't take a little bloody nose, maybe you ought to go back home and crawl under your bed. It's not safe out here. It's wondrous, with treasures to satiate desires both subtle and gross; but it's not for the timid." -- Q, TNG: "Q-Who?"
^Words that every player should keep in mind, especially whenever there's a problem with the game...
i named the iss cascadia for our future autonomous region that includes everything west of the cascade mountains from northern oregon to britsh columbia, the puget sound and the san juan islands
R.R.W Omien. T'varo class, the lesser Romulan word for honour. The other one being a bit too strong and complicated to be something they'd ever name a ship.
U.S.S Nei'rhh, Defiant class. Pre-LoR fake Reman captain. Named for a small, venomous bird. Disproportionately deadly for its size, and rather appropriate for a little Defiant.
I.G.S Zabathu, Andorian escort. According to a book I forget the name of, named for a horse like Andorian animal.
U.S.S Lyra, Vesta. Rather boring one. Named for the constellation.
And then the character with the musical terms for ship names. And most of my ship collection, not that I really have much.
U.S.S Allegrezza, Excelsior class. Basically means joyfulness.
Elegy, Elachi S'golth. Considering how baby Elachi seem to be made, something mournful seemed appropriate.
Overture, Breen Chel Grett. No deep meaning here. Overutre was originally just the instrumental introduction to an opera, but then Beethoven and Mendelssohn started making them into standalone pieces, along with a bunch of Italians, and other stuff branched off and developed over time. This isn't a music history lecture.
Pesante, Obelisk Carrier. Means heavy, ponderous. You've all seen how carriers handle, I don't think I need to explain this one.
Scherzo, Risian Corvette. Okay, this one needs explaining. Early baroque terms and so on. Literal meaning is along the lines of joking, or playful. Essentially it was a later development and occasional replacement of the minuette, just quicker and more light-hearted.
"The halfling way of battle is simple: You jump on their face and keep stabbing until the screaming stops."
I'm a relatively new player (up to the level cap though) but I have always use the same name for my flagship. The U.S.S. Umbra. I never really put much thought into the name (besides being cool) until I read this thread. Given that umbra is Latin for darkness, shade, or shadow I guess it reflects the current political situation of the STO universe.

Mine's called U.S.S. Aleksey Krupnyk - he is a known personality on StarCraft 2 scene, and I look up to him both for innovative gameplay, as well as very nice attitude and welll, we are also friends, so that's a bonus. And he loves Czech beer too!

My toon James T Cat, flys the USS Kittyprize/NCC-773440
Hes a lolcat version of Kirk and his crew. An RP from an alternate Cat dimension...I use this toon for my FOundry Review videos on youtube look me up sometime, I use the same name all across Google =^.^=
His Shuttle the Meowlileo, is for smaller missions.

Chief Med: Dr Leonard McCat
Security Cat: Ensign Generic
I tends to use themes for my ships. Usually the themes arise as I play (so the first ships generally don't follow the theme).
Unfortunately I can't remember all of them, but I can remember these:
For my main Fed, I eventually settled on mythical figures:
USS Nevada (Miranda)
USS Avatar (Heavy cruiser)
USS Prometheus (Akira)
USS Jupiter (Ambassador)
USS Europa (Prometheus)
USS Aurora (Sovereign)
For my new Fed, I decided on celestial objects:
USS Cirrus (Centaur)
USS Southern Cross (Sabre)
USS Andromeda (Cheyenne)
USS Andromeda-A (Galaxy)
Saw someone else with a ship (didn't catch the class, but I did see that the player was level 17, so it was probably a Lt. Cmdr ship) with the name "U.S.S. Taggart"
Current Ship: IKS mupwI' - B'Rotlh-class Bird-of-Prey. Name means "hammer" in Klingonese.
B'rel-class Bird-of-Prey: IKS Sek'lhr. It's what it started out with.
"Great War! / And I cannot take more! / Great tour! / I keep on marching on / I play the great score / There will be no encore / Great War! / The War to End All Wars"
— Sabaton, "Great War"
I named the free bee Voth Carrier the U.S.S. Oriskinay. After the U.S. Carrier that was decommissioned after the Vietnam war. It caught fire, and was gutted, and sunk a few years ago to become a potential coral reef site.
I plan to get the new Klingon ship, I just haven't thought of a name for it yet.
R.R.W. Xanitla (D'deridex)- named after a pivotal battle in the Romulan Civil War. R.R.W. Rhaetnen (Ha'nom)- lit. "Executor." R.R.W. Anarhai (Mirror Ha'apax)- lit. "Dawn."
K'tanco-class Battlecruiser: IKS tlhab - Klingonese for "freedom"
Next ship:
K't'inga-class Battlecruiser: IKS Khorazhar - legacy name from the FASA tabletop RPG, meaning "iron hand". For bonus points, it belonged to a D-7.

I named my ship after the ship from the Rush two part song Cygnus X-1/Cygnus X-1 Book II Hemispheres.
Which was in turn named for Don Quixote's horse in the Miguel Cervantes novel.
Oh, and just to be thoroughly pedantic, the entire thing is called Cygnus X-1; it's divided into "Book I: The Voyage" (on the album A Farewell To Kings) and "Book II: Hemispheres" (Side 1 of the album Hemispheres).
Still sticking to my "themes" for ships, per character.
My latest Orion gal uses slightly more exotic names, like Gemwing, GemHawk, etc.
My last Fed Sci (A Vulcan), uses car models as ship names, such as AMX, HMMWV, (I think I even named one "Pacer", lol)

You all have alot of really good ship names. Mine started off with an old warbird (Kirk era, I think) which I named Ryo-Ohki because big things sometimes come in small packages. But then I made a really good friend on here and cristened my next ship after her. The Persephone.
Umm, am not exactly sure what a Persephone is, but because it relates to my best friend, I try to take care of this ship with focusing on shields and hull reinforcements. I think that I stayed with this practice and named all of my ships and shuttles after my friends. TheR.R.W Persephone, R.R.W. Aleka, R.R.W Julius.. and now I have a new shuttlecraft but haven't decided who to name it after. Can't use a guy's name, and there's just so many girls on here. Perhaps I should name it the Andromeda. That would be a pretty name for a cute small one-person Romulan shuttlecraft. :-)

For my Federation Engineer:
Ozymandias (Obelisk carrier)- look upon it, ye mighty, and despair.
For my KDF Tactical Orion:
I.K.S. Kortus (B'Moth Bird-of-Prey)- randomly-generated name.
And for my Romulan Scientist:
R.R.W. Xanitla (D'deridex)- named after a pivotal battle in the Romulan Civil War.
R.R.W. Rhaetnen (Ha'nom)- lit. "Executor."
R.R.W. Anarhai (Mirror Ha'apax)- lit. "Dawn."
I.G.V. Prime for my Kumari. I have no idea what to name it. Just...no idea
