Ok I see some people are have problems with the game in regards to lag and or crashing from the game. Although this is frustrating it does not help anyone if you just make a post complaining.
-- You are going to have to help us to be able to help you.
reply to this thread instead of keep making new ones. then as the stickies suggest you need to post information in order for us to help you.
Unless you do this there is no way to trouble shoot the problem and until we can trouble shoot we have to assume the problem is on your side not Cryptics or pwe.
Trouble shooting steps to take before you post and what you need to have ready
1. Just run a tracert to > 208.95.186.32 / This is the log in server, as this is the front door to getting into the game it makes sense to test your connection to it.
2. Make sure everything is updated, Java/Adobe/graphics/sound card/direct X - you can generate a full report by runing dxdiag - If you end up making a trouble ticket it will be great for them to have this. I tells the tech's important information.
Video guide on how to perform a dxdiag on Windows 8 machine
3. To rule out anything on your own home network. Bypass your router and connect directly to your modem. I DO NOT mean directly connected to your router. Actually unplug your router and connect your computer up to your modem. This will eliminate anything in your house or your neighbor from being the potential problem.
4. While still directly connected run another tracert to 208.95.186.32 Compare the results if you don't know how to read them you can always post both results.
5. Do the basics spring/house clean your system, scan for spyware/malware/virues. Make sure your system has enough swap space. Make sure your computer is not full with stuff you don't need. If your computer has not been shut off or restarted recently try it so it cleans out all the process.
I suggest do this every time there is a game maintenance to run your own. That way while Cryptic gets the game in order and puts fresh paint on and cleans the trash bags. you can be running your own 4 hour maintenance.
After all this you are ready to post here. with your tracert results.

Eliminate the Drag in your speed: Bottleneck and Maxing your
upstream
Speed issues
when you ISP pings your modem they can tell at a glance if you are creating a bottleneck or maxing your upstream.
This is what it looks like below.
Ping statistics for :
Packets: Sent = 655, Received = 529, Lost = 126 (19% loss),
Approximate round trip times in milli-seconds:
Minimum = 7ms, Maximum = 2008ms, Average = 357ms
You pings should be under 20ms 30/50 at the most during peak times.
This happens when you are on a network shared by other people either in your home. Or College dorm etc. You have an allotted speed package your paying for example 15mbs down and 2 mbs up. Which means you will upload data to the internet at the speed of 2 million bytes a second. No more.
When you have just 1 modem and computer. That computer would always transmitt data at those speeds. HOWEVER when you introduce a router you share that speed with everyone else that is using that network.
So If your mother is watching Netflix on the TV, Sister is on the Ipad watching youtube, brother on his iphone downloading apps, Dad on his laptop watching his Gentleman's material. All of them systems sending and downloading information to and from the Internet is using that speed and connection shared.
Now say you came alone and downloaded the latest patch for STO - If the patch is rather large like 200MB up to 2GB it would take a LONG! time to download because you literally created a bottleneck .
http://www.pickthebrain.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2008/04/hourglass3.jpg
It would drain your speed down so much it would appear as if you have no internet at all.
When you stop the download, it would open the bottle neck and your internet will flow a lot faster!.
Maxing your upstream
If your answer to the above well no one is doing anything, or It is just me on the computer. That computer can still be doing stuff in the background which your not aware of.
Also LAPTOPS, just because they are in sleep mode doesn't mean they arn't using the internet still. If it's on it has an IP it's using the internet. Same with smart TV's Unless you turn it off and not in stand by it is using your internet. Same with Cell phones.
however one (1) computer if it is constantly talking with like your AV company to make sure it is always updated will constantly talk with the internet. If your scanning in the background it will slow your internet and pc down.
If you have a back-up program running that is always backing up your files it will take up your upload speed. Basically to keep this from getting confusing your computer is creating a traffic jam.
Also a major cause is Mal-ware /trojans streaming data back up your upstream will use up your bandwidth too.
The Fix for this
The fix for this to find out which computer or device is causing the drag or bottleneck is very simple. It's a process of elimination. Turn one device off as in NO POWER.
When the device is off, you will be able to tell if the speed improves or stays the same, and you continue shutting down each device until you find the 1.
--
Then the slightly harder process of finding out what is calling the problem on that device
Anti-spy /Malware.
check your AV program,
Scan your sytem with an Internet Scanner ( Symantec has one, you can use your own however if the program is corrupt it will not help)
----
Routers
9 times out of 10 all speed issues are the fault of the router. - Keep your firmware updated. Keep a password on and change the Admin password to your router.
But you have a password on it already? I don't care put a new one on.
The Admin password and the Wifi Password ARE NOT THE SAME.
you have a separate wifi password/key to connect to the internet and there is a 2nd seperate username and password to get into the configuration of your router. Worse yet the default username and passwords are posted all over the internet. ( Which is why pwebranflakes doesn't want you to post private IP's) If your router is not secure any Willy Nilly will be able to get into your home network.
Routers not having wifi password keys/ is another major cause and problem for lag and speed. Because any other person Joe Blogs down the road can use your internet.
Any car/person going by with their phones with data roaming will connect to ur network and when it goes out of range it will drop the connection. The router thinks this is an error because it did not log off correctly and will reset it self.
2nd Your opening your self to copyright infringments
3rd. Make sure your Guest features on all Routers are turned off. guest features SPLIT your speed in half. So you are paying for 30mbs down and 3mb up , you would in fact only get 15mb down and 1.5 mbs up.
4th Make sure your routers firmware is updated. Out of date firmware causes mismatches when the router is constantly talking with Linksys/netgear etc they send updates all the time to your routers and the mismatch firmware will cause you to get flaps. or the internet version of a hic-up

i did it a couple times the first ping times out the 15th ping it just quits tracing and stops an exits tracert so i dont know why but thats what happens trying to find out how to fix it.
when posting the results you can remove the ip of the 1st couple of lines until you get to a 10.x.x.x or if you are not sure you send a PM to me with the results.
I also notice you saying you Pinged the address. Please do a tracert not a ping.

sto-forum.perfectworld.com/showthread.php?t=911391
Are there any concrete suggestions for this problem? Or for giving you guys information that will help the devs resolve this problem?
Lots of people having the issue and currently unable to USE the game, and getting quite annoyed since it's a literal game-stopper, and means they can't log in to claim their Tribble or do any other limited-time stuff, since Season 8 started (the problem was previously confined to Tribble, but has now "spilled over" to Holodeck with S8 going live).
sto-forum.perfectworld.com/showthread.php?t=876941
Basically, the game crashes to desktop between the Legacy of Romulus splash screen and the character selection screen (never making it to the latter).
The former link is the most current, after S8 rollout (lots of people having issue), the latter link is the pre-S8 Tribble-only thread (people could NOT load Tribble w/o crash between loading & character select screen, but COULD load Holodeck just fine).
Anyway, the thread clearly needs dev attention, if not already. Branflakes has intermittently posted one or twice here & there. But we need some clear guidance on whether the issue is being addressed (what info would be useful for pinning down this particular issue; log files? ticket #'s?, system hardware/os/software specs? etc.) and what timeline for a fix. Especially given some of the limited-time rewards that people are NOT currently able to get due to being unable to load the game AT ALL.
Thanks for your time/attention.

As you said the problem is with your router to your modem and then from your ISP. This is why there is big numbers for the congentco because of the delay of the information getting to their severs increases the delay in getting back. Recommend you calling your ISP aswell send them the tracert and tell them.

Now keep in mind that this is a 'Peer to Peer' support forum (Just read the Forum description) If you actually want someone from Cryptic/PWE to comment on your thread, then you should be posting it on the PWE Tech Support Forum... http://techsupport.perfectworld.com/
Good to know that there is a COMPLETELY OTHER PLACE that we should be posting STO glitchiness, other than the STO forum's bugs & glitches & PC/network/etc troubleshooting section.
As far as the average player here is concerned, if there is a forum HERE that is SPECIFICALLY DEDICATED to reporting bugs and issues IN STO, it stands to reason that techs and devs SHOULD be monitoring it. Especially threads about major game-stopping issues that get up to a thousand posts...
If the techs and devs don't actively monitor these fora, but instead monitor the techsupport.perfectworld.com forum, perhaps there needs to be glear guidance that everything should be posted to THAT forum, rather than this one?
I mean, if that's the only way to get attention from an actual dev? But it kinda' defeats the purpose of having an STO-specific bug & technical glitches forum here, now doesn't it? Just saying. (And I'm guessing others are thinkin' it...)
I mean, clearly this forum is where STO players come to REPORT BUGS, under the assumption that it is the CORRECT place to come to report bugs.
But what's the point of reporting bugs/technical issues here, if ONLY community members ever check it, and they're clearly not devs? It seems like a moderately ridiculous notion that devs WOULDN'T come here and check for major gameplay issues, since this is the hub of gameplay bug reportage. Even if it's ostensibly peer-to-peer only, it still seems like the devs would want to know what's going on and would monitor trends in user reportage here. *Sigh*
EDIT: Well, in any event, I've gone over to the OTHER support forum and posted this thread to direct the devs over to to original thread over here:
http://techsupport.perfectworld.com/showthread.php?p=161321
And I've posted in the original thread about the whole kinda' silly fiasco and pointed them over to the new thread, if they choose to post over there too:
http://sto-forum.perfectworld.com/showpost.php?p=13533541&postcount=1136
So, now devs have no excuse not to know about it, right?? *Sigh* Silly to have to go through so much effort just to MAYBE get some eyes on the issue and an actual UPDATE as to where we're at with it.
Best,
~MG
your under the assumption just because they don't post they are not aware of this, which is a huge mistake.
When I made the original post, I checked with the community manager and he saw the post and I am sure word has got round.
I Quote from Always Sunny in Philadelphia :charlie " Just because you don't see me shave my balls every Friday doesn't mean I don't do it"
meaning just because they don't post doesn't mean they are not aware of it.
Also just keep in mind also that although there is a problem with the game as of now, not EVERY situation with a player is the result of the update/patch. As we have seen and in cases proven, the problem is local with peoples own network or something to do with the ISP. This is NOT PWE responsibility but our own.
Now I am able to work and help people here in a limited way, I work for my ISP as Tech support and I am CCNA certified so while I'm at work and not able to play. I'm going to be here and able to help most problems.

I'm getting pretty bad rubberbanding and some abilities aren't triggering when I hit them. I'll be walking in a straight line and then I'll be pulled straight back and to the side a bit. It's really weird. I've had this problem for a couple of months now and every tracert I've done (either the ip above or the patch server) puts the high pings at the alter.net addresses or later. I'm pretty upset that I can't have a smooth experience especially now that the new content is out.

any help would be appreciated.
mijoszew the problem is appearing to be with the comcast at least that is where it is starting. You are effected by the issues going on with the game however Comcast delay is somewhat causing your problem too.
@vyristykin Please perform a dxdiag save the information and pm me the results please. It doesn't look like there is a problem with the connection. So that rules out the internet and leaves a potential system error
@wind69
* 27 ms 19 ms peer-AS31042.sbb.rs [82.117.193.49] is the problem, it is a problem with your ISP. the following high numbers in your case is because of the delay from your ISP server to the cryptic's server and back again.

Praetor of the -RTS- Romulan Tal Shiar fleet!
Isp connecting to the qwest network, line 7 there is some delay. Bypass your router and go directly connected to your modem do another tracert if the results are the same and they should be call your ISP. I'm telling you to go directly connected first because they'll make you do it if your not already.

This could either be a SNR issue with Century link or your ISP, or the gateway switch that is use along this patch is being worked on.

It seems like a kinda messy communication pipeline, what with all the actual power cords and whatnot running along with this new Ethernet link... Anyone have any experience with using this kinda connection to game?
I ask because my friendly AT&T repair guy suggested I give it a try and gave me plug-ins for free.
thanks
d3n
I have not personally got to test this in my own lab however - the company the ISP I work for I'm told is keeping well clear of it, currently it is too messy for them and there is no clear regulations that have been setup. So until it becomes more stable and the kinks are worked out I will not be touching this.

I upgraded my account to gold yesterday after a few weeks of gameplay. I knew there were certain decent bonuses to subscribing, but I never expected this one. Ever since I upgraded to gold. I keep getting disconnected from the server!!! Isn't that a wonderful bonus? This is annoying as hell. Keeps saying the server connection timed out. I get to play for maybe 10 minutes at a time before I get kicked and that is if I am lucky. Can someone please tell me what the issue is? I have cleared my cache, reset the PC and the router. Everything possible that I know of. Never had this problem until I upgraded to gold.
Subscription status has nothing to do with this... You need to ask your ISP why there is no reply on hops 4, 5 and 6...
And try using the Windows 'pathping' command in place of 'tracert' and post the results, as well as the results of the 'Net Test' network diagnostics, to provide some clues on the quality of your connection to the STO servers...

I ran DxDiag, too, and I can post that giant wad of text if you want me to. Or, if there is any other information about my system that you want me to provide, I can do that. But I think the most important piece of information that I can provide is this: it always crashes in the social zones (ESD, DS9, etc.). If I have a toon that is sitting in a social zone, it's pretty rare that I can load that toon long enough to actually get out of the zone. The crashes are usually immediate, and sometimes before loading is complete. I believe that today, I finally rendered all of my toons as unplayable. I believe they are all stuck in social zones that will not load. I have submitted a ton of tickets since Season 8 launched; the last one was #14662149. I am trying to do everything I can to help you get this cleared up.
This does not look good... The first hop from your router should be the 15 - 25 millisecond range... And the recommended upper limit for total network latency is only 180ms, with hop #2 above that value...
Try rebooting/power cycle your ISP modem gateway and see if this improves the condition. If it doesn't you should contact your ISP and have them send someone out to take a look at the unit..
