With latency this bad, this is most likely a problem with either your router or gateway modem, (including hops 2 - 4 would probably provide the proof one way or the other...)

By excluding your ISP results, you've made it impossible to determine if its your ISP that is causing the problem or not...

By not including my ISP I show that the problem is on their side because regardless of my latency the server side is far worse. The latency on my side is in the single to teens ms range, so sorry garbage about it's your computer isn't going to fly.

Tell you why your opinion didn't matter off the bat, instead of saying try to run the pathping right away you got the oh so high and mighty it's your computer ideal in your head and didn't look at the original numbers I posted. And I did you pathping 5 min for completion not acceptable help someone without the mind set of it's only you and try to diagnose the problem and my IP address has nothing to do with a problem on the server side.

If you don't work for this game, offer honest suggestions, prior to assuming anything.

I have been playing STO since launch, and have never had a problem until about 1 month ago. Now, whenever I log in, everthing is stop and go. Just parking at ESD, I can see all the ships flying around me freeze for a second, then move for a few seconds, then freeze again. Also, just logging in and loading takes way too long. Sometimes, it takes several minutes just for my BO ability trays to fill in.

However, I can play any other online game with high to max settings for several hours, and not have a single stutter.

So far, I have updated all my drivers, uninstalled and reinstalled STO, and even increased my speed with my ISP. Still, the problem persists.

I really hope that someone can help me resolve this issue so that I can play STO again.

My ISP is Mediacom. I live on the east coast of the U.S.

Your 'Trace Route' diagnostics show network latency within acceptable limits, but your 'Net Test' results indicate that you are suffering from connection quality issues on your connection to the network where the STO Servers are located.

Try substituting the 'pathping' command for the 'tracert' command, and post the results, as this will show if you are suffering from 'Dropped Packets' on your connection, and where they are occuring...

Hmmm... Dropped Packets all over the place, with the worst being Hop #6 at 100%, which appears to happen from just after the ATT Gateway from your ISP, is so bad as to make all further readings unreliable...

You should probably complain to your ISP so they can check their gateway connection to the ATT.net backbone to see if its their problem, and if it isn't, to complain to ATT to get them to correct the issue...

The other thing you could try is the 'Proxy' option in the launcher, which may, (or may not) divert you onto a less congested Internet connection path to the STO servers...

Nothing apparently wrong with the 'Path Ping' as the latency is well within acceptable limits, and no sign of dropped packets...

A 'Net Test' diagnostic would have been nice to see if you have the sustained network throughput needed, but the 'Path Ping' results suggest that your problems aren't network connection related, and instead, may be something systemic to your system that is causing the crashes and disconnects.

Ok. Let's make this a little easier, especially for those who haven't got a clue as to what you're talking about when you refer to pings and tracerts. This is real simple. If the problem were gameside, then everyone would be having play issues and the forums would be flooded with new posts. Since this is not the case, the problem is going to be on your (the player) end. Its either your router, your modem, your service, or your computer.

Now, its a fact that any router will eventually run into problems the older it gets. I don't care if you paid 10 bucks on ebay or 500 to some high end company. Even brand new routers sometimes have defects. So, before you dismiss the possibility that your router could be the problem, try getting up and resetting it ( this applies to the modem as well, so do both). Simply look on the back of the router and press the power button. Then unplug the modem and wait for all the lights to turn off. Then plug in the modem and turn the router back on.

If the above does not fix your problem, make sure your computer is connected to the internet. On older windows and windows 7/vist/xp, there is a function bar at the bottom of the desktop screen. This will have an indicator similar to most cell phone service bars. If there is a flag, and exclamation mark, or whatever else besides just white bars, then your computer is not connected to the internet for some reason. Check your internet settings in your control panel.

If your computer is setup correctly and should be connected to the internet, check your router and modem lights and make sure they are linked to the internet. If they are not, then your service is down. This actually happens fairly commonly around 2am when most people are not using it so the provider can make necassary repairs and run maintenance. You can call to confirm. Do not freak out.

Finally, if everything is working, and you can get on other sites without an issue, but still can't log into the game, make sure there is server maintenance scheduled. If you get a message about the server not being available, then that means that everyone has been booted from the game so Cryptic and pwe can do whatever they need to do, and the game will be back online in a couple of hours.

    You don't need to start messing with pings and tracerts and all this other nonsense to find out why you can't play. If you have lag, and everyone else seems to be whooping your TRIBBLE, and it isn't normal for you, then your internet is probably bogged down. To prevent this kind of problem, here are a few tips to follow;

    1) Do regular maintenance of your pc and router/modem. Run a defrag and cleaner on your pc once in a while (I do mine about once a month with smart defrag and Ccleaner). And resetyour router and modem while your pc is running its defrag routine (note, there should be NOTHING running other than defrag).

Again, this is for all those who are getting headaches from reading what the OP posted and trying to make sense of it.

This is a unusually high value for the the first hop. Normally, you would expect values in the 5 to 10ms range...

Try rebooting/power cycle your router/gateway, and see if that improves things... If it doesn't, then you should contact your ISP Tech Support, and have them send someone out to take a look at the unit...

Atlanta, GA, USA here. Comcast Xfinity ISP.

Comcast sent me a new modem this week. Now I'm getting terrible lag, server not responding, and rubber banding.

Always Hop #6, always 100% packet loss.

Someone on Comcast forums says Comcast and Cogentco are having "business issues" with each other.

Elite STFs are nasty when you add in a couple of 14 second server not respondings.

I have all my drivers updated and STO is the ONLY game or instance where this happens to my PC. However, I get constant lock ups in STO that requires hard resets and i am worried it will damage my HDD.

      My Spec:

AMD 9590 5Ghz 8 Core CPU ( Temp at 58C at high load)

      ASUS Sabretooth 990FX R2.0 Mobo

      8GB RAM ( 1333Mhz)

Sapphire R9 290 Tri-X OC Graphics card. ( Temp 65-70C at high load)

      Samsung EVO 256GB SSD

      Windows 8.1

I use this rig to run BF4 on Ultra settings without a problem. I hope you can help since this is game breaking for me.

having an issue with launcher timing out, it simply will not connect. I can load and browse any web page, youtube, the movie site i use, and play any of my other 6 games without issue, STO is the only one not working. Been having issues ranging from white/multi color plaid textures, horrible lag/rubberbanding, random DC's, 10s to 1 1/2 min server not responding with 'massive catchup' and now not even being able to load launcher.
