After the launch of season 8, the patches, the nerfs, once the season is done enough were people can start being assigned to what's next, could we first get you to go through and fix a lot of the stuff that's broken?
1) The Character creator/tailor: This is a mess. Character Creator 2.0 (your words, not mine) was just a new UI, but it's still buggy and broken. What ever happened to removing the uniform types? why are 90%+ of the skins still only limited to the head only? Why don't we get to have more control over the body sliders, like in champions? The new romulan hair tech was really nice looking, but full of holes and bald patches. why do so many uniforms clip? Why can't we get better looking EV suits for the people with normal sized heads? Why don't the klingons get more clothing options? Why did you take away options like the KDF long coat? This feature alone has soooo many things wrong with it, and a lot of it needs to be fixed.
2) Ships: While there are a lot of nice ships in game, would it be possible to go back and revamp them, update them, properly scale them, fix inaccuracies in the models, and rebalance these? I can understand that you want ships to be at a certain tier, or have more of an advantage in some situations over others, but constantly releasing ships, or consoles tied to ships is really getting annoying. Nothing is worse than getting a ship just the way you want it only to have it out dated by a new ship release... other than maybe getting a new ship just the way you want it only to have if nerfed into uselessness. This has happened to numerous people, numerous times. It would be nice to get a lot of these ships more on par with each other, and the talk of updating the Gal-x and defiants is a great start, but what about the KDF ships? They need some love too.
3) Bugs: There are WAAAAAYYYYY too many of these to count, but still, going back and trying to tackle some of the bigger ones, or longest known ones would go a long way to make a lot of people happy.
4) Revamping older missions: What ever happened to this? What ever happened to adding class specific options, or making me feel more like a star trek captain and less like a Genocidal maniac blasting my way through everything i see? While the Comm array powers are okay for Cruisers, the game could seriously use some attention in making Engineers and Scientists feel like just that. Add in ways for them to slow down or add time to mission timers, make it so they can dismantle things in game to speed up finishing objectives. You guys want to put Dinosaurs that shoot lasers from their heads in, but not anything that would actually add more fun or variety to the classes?
5) Pricing: It's too much... seriously... Quality over quantity. If you lowered the pricing after free to play like you said you would, people would be more willing to pay rather than grind themselves sick of your game just to get stuff from the store. For me personally, $25 is really expensive for a ship that i'll never touch in real life (though each character getting one is a nice touch), but it really only pays off if i make and play numerous alts. Lower the prices isn't going to be a popular decision corporate side, but the fans would love you for it and spend more money on things. Especially if you put more effort into the quality of the items compared to how much you're charging for them currently.
6) MOAR CANON!: While a lot of this game is still fun, it's been losing a lot of what gives it that trek feeling. Most of which is the serious overmonitization of a game that's based on the society that doesn't even have a real currency. Addding in Canon Characters voiced by the actual actors is a HUGE step in the right direction, but it would be nice to revamp things like cloak, exploration, diplomacy, character models (reman and jem'hadar, i'm lookin' at you) to make them look, act, and feel more like they did on the shows/movies. Cloak should activate when i push the button, thats just how it worked. If you want to rework them for balance, limit them on the fed side, buff them on the KDF or Rom ships, i'm all for it, but it would be nice if the basic version was canon, and the advanced versions were the cool ones we saw the factions using IN CANON! The Star Trek game, needs a lot more things added to it to give it that Star Trek feel. Why not add missions where we get to do cool things with the U.S.S. Titan? Or more missions where we interact with the new enterprise? the old missions have a lot of the little touches that make them great trek moments, and it would be nice to get more of an effort put in there to get more of a Trek feel.
TL;DR: We need a Quality of Life pass, big time after season 8 is out.
Please keep it civil and constructive, but feel free to throw in your two cents about anything and everything you think they need to make a QoL pass on before they start working on Season 9. I'm really interested to see some of what others think on this.
I am 100% on board with this and hope that this is exactly what happens.
Unfortunately, there's no money in bug fixes, price reductions, revamps, or canon and unless Cryptic's metrics show that they're losing players due to these issues they will most likely never be addressed.
Still, I'm pulling for your ideas, OP...
Star Trek: Online - Now with 100% more dinosaurs!!

This unfortunately. Players are ravenous beasts for new content.
It doesn't matter how much new content they add, if they're not going back and fixing things, there won't be anyone left to make new content for.
Part of the problems Cryptic hits most (without me going into an angry and cynical rant) are problems the forums had warned them about long in advance. Problems with new ships invalidating old ships, rep systems and too many currencies being too much of a grind, how many of these currencies become useless after a short amount of time, it was all here on the forums, and cryptic chose not to listen. Now that they're at the point of it being problematic, there should really be a push to go back and just fix all of the things they've been avoiding.
While a shiny new lockbox will earn cryptic a lot of money, constantly neglecting the games faults will just cause more issues. Just look at how poor champions has ended up.
It would be better to get these things cleaned up AFTER a big content release, but before starting work on the next big thing. How many players would come back if they heard cryptic was going back and fixing a lot of the things that caused them to leave in the first place?
Yes, I agree, and I hope they realize what they NEED to do before its too late. I mean I'd have quite the game myself, if not for my Lifetime membership that I bought back in the Beta days, the game just feels less "Trek" with every passing Update.
As for the ships, the sooner they realize a "Captain's" ship should be more then some "cheap" Novelty "Fad" but instead should be a thing that should be built up form level one, and made into something Iconic and Epicly unique to that "Captain." Well, the better off we'll all be for it.

Im on board but giving it a 50/50 chance...
Reason being is once built hard to deconstruct and rebuild and if you do as in COH with the pvp system you break other stuff...just from other mmo experience they wont rebuild stuff just pile stuff on
They wont lower the price of the ships but they could discount some of the older ones...:D
Id like them to do something with the ships also , especially the inside , a way for them to be more individualized , maybe upgrade and do things to them ourselves , like crew uniforms and other such things , and id love to be able to look out the viewscreen and see whats actually outside.

1. the character creation is extremely limited to a few options. They spent hours modelling Yar, Sela and Worf especially, yet they can not spend time revamping the customization per species. i doubt this is very high on the list of things to do.
2. these types of things sell quite a bit because it's account wide, don't kid yourself when the oddy came out i was in a pvp fight with an oddy player who had that shield advantage with the ship at the time and it was vs my vor'cha, let me tell you something that fight remained a stalemate for a while until one of his friends showed up in an escort, but even then the vor'cha was absorbing so much damage, i even manged to to force that escort to withdraw twice. that fight lasted about 10 minutes before my ship finally went down when another ship besides that escort which had returned, it entered the fight and that was it. even the stock ships can pose a significant threat if armed well.
3. the game has ahd bugs in it from day 1, some of the most nasty bugs were crushed the past few years when PWE took over. however some minor bugs still exist from it's first year but these days it's glossed over with content updates. the dev team may want you to forget about the bugs, i don't.
4. a glorified mass murderer is what you are playing, check your ship and bodycount in the accolades, that tells a whole story by itself. there are a few missions with this choice in each one but on your own, it make no difference anyway. as for the game mission designs, it's almost exclusively made towards DPS and escorts in space, the recent STF's are proof of this. people have made ideas about making engineers and science officers more valuable, but nothing is ever done about it, so tacs lead the way.
5. i don't pay money into non existant virtual ships on a screen. but yes the value of some of this stuff is insane. however some others will tell you that an hour or two a day doing boring dallies for a few months can net you several of these z-store ships in game without needing to spend any money at all.
6. the problem with adding too many characters on the game is that the actors from trek, they cost a lot of money for a weeks worth of voice talent for their characters. so unless you have been hiding millions of dollars somewhere and want to give it to cryptic for these actors, you are likely to see one every so often instead, but thats about it. to be honest about the game there are some areas that do need a revamp, the minority of players are banging on about PVP needing an overhaul. meanwhile before the buy out with PWE, the exploration was the quickest means to grind your way to level 50 and could take anything from 4 days to a week to do such a thing before the massive xp increase to missions made exploration a pointless exercise and mostly ignored these days. shame though, it was the best way to also get diplomacy xp and free loot, it was also a way to get the vaunted enemy faction officer to join your ship.
T6 Miranda Hero Ship FTW. Been around since Dec 2010 on STO and bought LTS in Apr 2013 for STO.
While there are some very valid points in what you're saying, what would you recommend then? What would you like to see in the way of a quality of life pass? What would be some of the more pressing issues you would like to see solved before they start working on "Deep Season 9?"
1) The Character creator/tailor: This is a mess. Character Creator 2.0 (your words, not mine) was just a new UI, but it's still buggy and broken. This is really bugging me, too.
They took a working, but flawed system and instead of fixing it's bugs (broken hairstyles, clipping, floating combadges, marauding boffs, etc...), they just went ahead, made it way, way more uncomfortable to use, (whoever came up with those 2 preview bars should be forced to mate with a Salt Vampire) broke the "save" function and added a bit of lag on top of it, while not fixing anything that was wrong with it.
Again, I really doubt that the majority of the Devs are actually playing the game.
Well that's just it, you didn't list ANY opinions, just a bunch of "why it will never happen"s. I WANT your opinions, that's why i asked what you would like to see if they did do a QoL pass. Just because they might have made some mistakes early on, in terms of how difficult some of these things would be to change later on, that doesn't mean they should just keep on ignoring them. Especially if they're just getting buggier the longer it goes on. It's not a matter of if they should, or how possible it is, but how long can they really put it off. This is all stuff that needs to be fixed soon, the more content they add on without fixing things, the more code there will be blocking them from doing so, the more code there will be to be affected and go wrong due to the things that aren't being fixed.
The longer they go without fixing these things, the worse things will be from various perspectives. This thread is about getting an idea of what people would want to see done in a quality of life pass, not just telling them "no, it's too hard". So yes, your opinion DOES matter, but i want you're opinion, not your doubts.
What would you like to see if they did a Quality of Life pass?
1. Agreed. I was expecting this with Legacy of Romulus. Unfortunately all Cryptic did was reskin the character creator. They didn't actually fix anything. In fact they broke even more functions of the tailor.
2. Would be nice, but it's not a priority for Cryptic. They're waist deep in the pool of power creep and are settling in.
3. In a way, Cryptic's already doing a quality of life pass and fixing bugs. Unfortunately it's going to take a VERY. LONG. TIME. Because, you know, chugging out more content for a game is obviously more important than making sure the foundation that content is sitting on is stable and up-to-date. This game has a ton of MINOR problems that have piled up over the years and now seem like they're MAJOR ones. It makes the game look and feel unpolished and amateurish in some areas.
4. As I understand this idea was canned. Probably not enough time or it was probably too expensive for them to do. (seriously?)
5. Hey, Cryptic's got to make money. It's too bad Cryptic won't cave in to the many suggestions people would literally throw money at them for, such as TNG/VOY bundles, ship interiors, more uniforms and tailor options, ship materials, pretty much aesthetic and vanity stuff to make them stand out or more stuff tied with canon.
6. Sorry, canon is too expensive for Cryptic to afford. I wonder how much Dorn cost them alone...
I don't want to pick on you, wraithshadow13, but I think if I were a dev I would prefer to see a specific list of bugs that haven't been addressed in a long time - so many people around here talk/complain about "bugs" without being specific.
4) Revamping older missions: What ever happened to this?
It was a long time ago, so I don't have a source for this, but I'm pretty sure this has been acknowledged as low priority/an abandoned project (this may have been from an old Ask Cryptic). The impression I got was that this is what they were doing during the Dark Times, and didn't have the resources to make new missions or other content. Now that they have a good-sized team, they want to keep moving forward rather than returning to the "remastering" strategy.
5) Pricing: It's too much... seriously... Quality over quantity. If you lowered the pricing after free to play like you said you would, people would be more willing to pay rather than grind themselves sick of your game just to get stuff from the store.
Where/when did they say they were going to lower the pricing? I wouldn't count on that happening any time soon, as I suspect profits are...healthy.
6) MOAR CANON!: While a lot of this game is still fun, it's been losing a lot of what gives it that trek feeling.
This is another "kitchen sink" post, and I don't really agree that the game doesn't feel "Trek," but that's pretty subjective. I also generally agree with what you suggested to make things even better. There are some risks, though, namely the need to balance "canon" with "fun" or functional gameplay, or maintaining focus on the player character, rather than the adventures of Shon and the Enterprise.
...talking to players is like being a mall Santa. Everyone immediately wants to tell you all of the things they want, and you are absolutely powerless to deliver 99% of them.
Yes fix some of the bugs, it is getting silly now with how broken parts of character creation and uniform slots are now. Plus there are bugs still around from launch bothering everyone to. There are new bugs to like NPCs referring to Klingons are Starfleet personnel and using the wrong transporter effects ect (likely from copy+paste missions they apparently didn't bother to convert properly)
The KDF ships need a good revamp to, they haven't been touched since launch for the most part and a lot have fallen obsolete with the massive power creep in game.
I absolutely agree with you on almost anything except the pricing. I don't really mind the cost of things in STO, not saying they're cheap for me or anyone, but they are obtainible through playing and in no way neccessary in the gameplay so you'd have to grind and only grind untill you buy the item you like/need from the C-Store.
But yeah, the game since the release of LoR is in dire need of a QoL pass and a huge bugfixing patch (whatever happened to that one?) and it's only getting worse by the day. Seriously, I havent encountered so many bugs, glitches and similar issues for more than a year as I have the last 5 months during my playtime.
Cryptic, please pay attention to this - having new stuff is nice, but you really must do one QoL pass and huge bugfix once in a while or you're risking whole portions of the game to become unplayable or unsatisfactory to the players. Maybe during the upcomming time of the Winter Event when most of us are entangled in Q's shennanigans is the right time to do it?
Frankly, i'd be happy if they'd just fix the Character Editor/Tailor to do away with the Uniform/Off-Duty/Formal/MACO/Omega Force spilt.
I find it very odd that 300 years in the future and you have to store all your clothes at a tailor.
Isn't there space in the ready room for a closet?
Does anyone think it would be nice if a captain could pop into his/her ready room and slip on their formal admirals coat for a diplomatic mission (or combat clothes or off-duty clothes for a weekend on Risa?)
Modifications and new apparel... go to the tailor.
However going to a tailor just to pin on new rank insignia seems a bit daft.

I wouldn't mind if the game engine got an over haul. Hearing about things like polygon limits on ship design make my head spin.
I highly doubt that there are polygon limits on ships, and if there are, it's not the engine's fault per se... It's the fault of current computers. Do you really want 1 FPS in all space social zone just because someone wanted their Galaxy-class to look perfect down to a molecular level?

with regards to the first part. You do know that you can swipe different saved outfits without having to go to the tailor, right?
as for the second part, the problem is the game doesn't recognize the different between "change the color of your current jacket" and "pin on new rank insignia" they are all considered "modifications". Do I agree that rank should be "automatically" updated so you don't have to go to the tailor to change your rank insignia from lieutenant commander to captain? sure. but I don't think the game is set up that way. would be nice if it was though.

Revamped missions are new content... aren't they?
That's a common misconception, lockboxes and new shinies to chase after are new content.

I completely agree.
A part of me felt sad reading the post.
-Not technically but how true it is, about whats need be done.
And I'd like to keep playing. >.>

This thread is about getting an idea of what people would want to see done in a quality of life pass, not just telling them "no, it's too hard". So yes, your opinion DOES matter, but i want you're opinion, not your doubts.
What would you like to see if they did a Quality of Life pass?
Dump everything in together and make it all interchangable.
But, signed. Even though nothing in this thread is likely to come to fruition. What's coming in Season Nine? Yes, you guessed right!
Where/when did they say they were going to lower the pricing? I wouldn't count on that happening any time soon, as I suspect profits are...healthy.
The KDF ships need a good revamp to, they haven't been touched since launch for the most part and a lot have fallen obsolete with the massive power creep in game.
I find it very odd that 300 years in the future and you have to store all your clothes at a tailor.
Isn't there space in the ready room for a closet?
Does anyone think it would be nice if a captain could pop into his/her ready room and slip on their formal admirals coat for a diplomatic mission (or combat clothes or off-duty clothes for a weekend on Risa?)
Modifications and new apparel... go to the tailor.
However going to a tailor just to pin on new rank insignia seems a bit daft.

For crying out loud...no fixes or updates since Beta...either remove it or FIX it please
