The issue I have with this game and canon, is they mix-and-match from numerous sources, some of which aren't canon at all.
They mix the TV shows, JJ Trek, book lore, comics; even make up their own to try and tie in with it. The result is you get a lot of stuff that is either not fleshed out properly or just makes no damn sense what-so-ever.
For crying out loud...no fixes or updates since Beta...either remove it or FIX it please
I'm not a huge fan of PvP, but i do have to agree. There is a big enough calling for it, but so far, it has been less than spectacular. One of the things i was hoping to see with Season 8 was a new PvP map based on capture and hold. It would have been awesome to see an actual war between the KDF and FED (since roms aren't a real faction), as well as maybe having the Voth be an AI controlled faction thrown in as well, just to make it interesting.

While i do like that they are throwing in a lot of soft canon as well, you're definitely right in regards to some things needing to be fleshed out a little more, or at least have a better explanation. Still though, as much as i want there to be more canon in game, soft canon is still always welcome. I would love a few missions that have us interacting with Captain Riker of the U.S.S. Titan.
Wow, I've been doing a lot of these transcribing lately. Anyway, referring back to the OP concerning a quality of life pass over the game, there is this snippet from the Nov 6 interview with Al Rivera on GandT (http://www.gandtshow.com/?p=3059 ):
(1:08:10 based on the mp3 track) "We have an early crafting draft design that we have just been working on over the last couple of weeks, so yes. I'm really hoping, uh, I think you can put a pretty safe bet that by middle-ish next year we'll have a whole brand new awesome crafting system. Our goal right now is we got a really solid game now and now our goal is to pick up all the orphans from Star Trek Online. All the things that have been left behind that had never really completed or things that we were never really happy with. So, so that's why I mean some of the seasons going forward may be a little light on content because we really want to update all of the old stuff. You know, it's time to really, we have a lot of people coming into the game all the time and we want to make sure we turn as many of them into loyal Star Trek Online players. So that means things like updating crafting, updating PVP, updating early Federation content, updating Foundry, getting all of those features that were never quite where we want them to be. Update, what are we going to do with exploration? Uh, you know, as far as the exploration clusters, we were never really happy with those and so we want to do a, uh, I don't know if we are going to update those or change it into something completely different at this point because it is such a massive, because it may, it's all kinda like randomly generated you know critters and bad guys and mission. So I don't know what we are going to do with that but we are trying to address all of those old features and all of those old content... and crafting is definitely one of those... and we are so are of kinda now thinking how complex do we want to make crafting? ... That's a debate on how to do that. So we're in the middle of that so I think you can expect that will be fun."
There is also a mention of the Soyuz and Constellation being added (Rivera wants to get the Picard Manuever into the game) but with no time frame.
Once again, apologies for any miswords, mispellings, and related errors from pausing, rewinding, playing, typing, and pausing again.

As for the topic, one thing I would love in STO, and is still missing, is player housing. Using a "light" version of the Foundry, to make something incredible, quite similar to EQ2. Buying an house on Vulcan, San Francisco, Qo'nos, Andoria, Risa, Drozana... and then build it the way you like.
This is one thing I would love to see. But otherwise, I'm fine with quality of life patch.
A season without content (and grinds ) is no season at all. That said, I am definitely in favor of them taking some time post Winter event and doing applying some TLC to squash the many bugs in game. Most recently, I am seeing tons of new client crashes which is disturbing since the game was rock solid not more than 3-4 weeks ago.

I hadn't listened to that, but the part you quoted was really nice to actually see. In terms of crafting, Cryptic games have always had terrible crafting systems, More so once they started adding on the dilithium costs, or the diamonds in NW. Monetizing the crafting makes it more useless, especially when Fleet or rep items are loads better from the get go. Still though i do look forward to seeing just what they're planning on.
Overall though, it is nice to see him mention getting back to a lot of older features. Cryptic has always had a bad habit of overhyping (or falsely hyping lately) a lot of their content, only to release them half finished, never to be touched after the initial patch and nerf. Champions online is riddled with these like termites. There are a ton of things i would love to see them go back and either fix, update, and just plain improve (hence the thread), but i'm glad to see them mention this as well. To be honest though, given Cryptic's history with claims like this, i find myself very doubtful, at least until i see things on tribble with my own eyes, and even then, a patch and nerf could easily ruin things (COUGHgal-xCOUGH).

As for this bit, they already had something like that in regards to ship interiors. There were even captains quarters as well as the trophy spots, but like a lot of things, they had a lot of plans that really just ended before they even went anywhere. If anything, for me personally, i would love to get the interiors expanded, including options for customizing the captains quarters as a housing option. Player housing as a whole though would still be a good feature to add more customization to the game.
Eh, New Content is like the Proverbial Carrot on a Stick, except that the Carrot is on a short stick, thus ending the reason to need to pull the cart to get to it in the first place. No carrot, no motivation.
I know this goes back a bunch of posts, but its like this in any game. Gamers chew through new content, faster then programers and developers can pump it out, even with a huge workforce. Though I look at it this way. If the content is extremely good quality, then its worth the wait for it to come out. Personally I'd rather have to wait for Content if I knew it was going to be high quality and well produced, then having constant half trash content that's extremely buggy and poorly scripted. Just me though.

Actually that is what would make a good game.. Most of us don't like the "Grind" Its hard to enjoy a game when in order to enjoy it you have to "Grind" for gear. By the time you're done "Grinding" you're pretty much fed up with a game and move on to something else. Contrary to the Devs opinion.. Grinding is NOT fun.
Now as to the OP, Yes it'd be nice to see things get a passover. The Dev's have been saying they were going to for 2 years or more now, and instead all they do is release "New" content. Honestly I'd like to see fixes and improvements, to me that would be "New Content" as I'd get to Re-Experience a more complete STO.
Things on my list that they should Update...
1) Bridges, Some of these are way to large or things are just positioned wierdly... or both.
2) Ship Scaling, Some of the ships are still way to big, or way to small. The Defiant is 123 Meters long, Intrepid 305, yet in game the Defiant looks closer to well over 200 Meters. C'mon Dev's.. the Defiant is tiny.... Its just FUBAR in a can for its enemies.
3) Tailor, Yes its still glitchy.. and I agree, I noticed costume pieces missing from it. I was always looking forward to getting my KDF toons their Trenchcoat only to notice its not there anymore.
4) Mission Re-vamps, I'd like to see many more of the old missions re-vamped and have their loot updated as well. I'd love to replay the old missions, but after I see there's no real reward for doing so I usually choose to not bother.
5) Crafting, For me this is a big one.. Ever since they Re-vamped it I have been unable to craft a single thing. Why? Because they added more crafteing materials needed which don't even drop in the game world. Instead you have to buy Dilithium (which for the most part you have to buy with Zen) for us non-grinders. Which is expensive to those of us on tight financial budgets. The focus on real currency purchases for in game mechanics is driving players away and driving Exchange prices way up to compensate.
In short... Fix the game CRYPIC!, You'll get more people playing if you fix what we have already. New content is nice, but not at the expense of things NOT getting fixed in the process.

I agree with a lot of what you said, but these two are probably things that need reworking just as much as anything else. I would LOVE to have ships being more to scale in every sense of the word. The bigger ships need to feel bigger, especially in comparison to the smaller craft. Since we have tab targeting, it's not like the smaller craft would really be to difficult, especially with the already existing option to auto target attackers. I know they wouldn't be able to do actual scale "for tech reasons", but they should at least do what they can to at least try.
This goes for interiors and bridges as well. I know they are getting ready to reveal the new halls for fed ships, but from the sound of it, they're still WAY too big. My type two shuttle or fighter should not have the runabout interior, especially since the type two could actually fit INSIDE the runabout. Even if i were locked into the pilot seat, and only able to rotate the camera, as long as it was the accurate interior, i really wouldn't mind. It would only add to the immersion.
Sadly, i think that would require them to rework the camera functions to actually shrink to perspective rather than scrolling to zoom. Still though, it would be a great trick for the people who make tiny tiny aliens to play as well.
Due to another thread about Cloaking, i would also love to see a revamp of the Cloaking system in game. The following Quote is part of what i posted, but it's meant to be more of a "How can we make it better". I really do think that cloaking technology should show that the game is decades beyond what we've seen in shows and movies, but should still be balanced between the factions. From the different episodes, there are a lot of really cool ways the cloaking system could be revamped for every one rather than having the angry back and forth where nobody wins.
I personally would love it if all default, basic cloaks were battle cloaks. That's canon. That's how they worked in enterprise, tos, tng, ds9, voy, and any of the films. You push a button and you become invisible. All basic cloaks should be able to do that.
Klingon and Romulan cloaks should be a standard ship function, while the feds still need to use a console, or better yet, make them all a console (adding a cloak slot to ships as needed) so that we can get better versions, like warp cores. That would still limit the number of ships on the fed side that can use them.
From there, Klingons could get Battle cloak, which would be upgraded to fire torps while cloaked, making the C-Store version a better version or adding synergy to make it still viable.
Since KDF Battle cloak would be offensive, Romulan Battle Cloak could be Defensive, making it more difficult to detect, or offering slight shielding or defensive buffing, to make it more inline with the Scimitar's advanced cloak, without devaluing the store bought ship.
Federation wouldn't really get a Battle Cloak as described in the above, but instead just go from Basic to Advanced at endgame. Either through the rep or what not, they would get the Phase Cloak. It's a thing, it's canon, and even the Voth are using it in game, so it's already out there.
The Scimitar already Gives the Romulans their advanced cloak, and it seems pretty BA at the moment, but i'm not sure what would be a great Advanced Cloak for Klingons. There's the obvious Weapons fire cloak from all good things, but i still like the idea of having something a little more tactical, like a cloaking field, where you can hide non cloaking ships, or a bunch of mines, or things of that nature.
I really do feel that the game should be showing cloak as having advanced with the times and technology, and not actually limiting it to pre-canon existance for the playable factions. As others have been stating though, Keeping it balanced as well as fun, should clearly be the key thing. I would also be curious to see ideas from others about how to make cloaking better as a whole, than just arguing against each other in a downward spiral.
New thing to add to this list is improving all pets, especially with problems in missions like the Breach, where the assault on the deathstar really seems to make having pets useless. Both my carrier and my MVAE seem to be losing pets left and right in the trench run and just flyng through the ship. they're getting stuck in the weirdest spots, and it's getting annoying just how bad the AI can be on these things at times.
I'm glad to see that i'm not the only person making these posts. There are too many things in this game that are broken or need updating, and it's getting a bit ridiculous that Cryptic is doing nothing about them.
A 'season' of really going through and doing a better job of things which have been around forever would be phenomenal, such as crafting, pvp, exploration etc. This is nothing against Cryptic, Atari put them into an awful position of underfinance and stupidly short timetables.
Revamps of early missions would be great, at the end of the day, it means the story and the like are already written, surely making it less time consuming than 'brand new' content? The revamps like Doomsday Machine *were* like experiencing a completely new story as they were so radically improved.
I'd like to see improvements to older c-store purchases as well. Many of severely lacking compared to newer releases and are riddled with poor textures and bugs, (due to the same problems as above) this would likely see sales in this stuff and again, surely can't take as long as doing it from scratch?
People keep saying Cryptic won't do this because there is no money in it.
I hope Cryptic stops believing this at some point because I guarantee you the real heavy-hitters in the gaming industry didn't get there by ignoring bugs in their product.
I gave up my fleet of 6 months and quit a while back due to bugs and game performance issues that goes back to launch. I'm sure I am not the only one who has done the same.
I respectfully acknowledge what Cryptic has done with the game and enjoyed it quite a bit, but I won't be coming back until something drastic happens.
Agree, to me it seems like there is no quality control what so ever. They produce cheap content and ignore problems.
I hate to agree, but this right here is a huge part of how Cryptic does its business, and it's very apparent in the other two games as well. Just look at the Character skins and how they all end at the neck. Most people paid a huge chunk of real money for the LTS and the Liberated Borg, yet the infected skin is head only meaning no open uniforms, which a lot of people are also paying for. Remans don't look anything like remans, Jem'Hadar look different than they should as well, there are a million things that need to be fixed as well as updated to match the power creep, all of which really should have been addressed a long time ago. Even the exchange search and my bridge staffing refuse to work properly, the Vault: Ensnared is using the wrong dialog, and has been since LoR launched, the Pet AI has gone screwy and useless.
There are entirely way too many things to support what you've said there, and cryptic really needs to get in gear and start making fixes, because no matter how much cool content you add to a game, it's pointless if no one can even play it.
STO is, by any reasonable standards, virtually grind free.
That's not grinding, that's a terrible Game. Horrible game mechanics can often make things a grind, but at some point, with something like you've described, you're really just punishing yourself by playing it.
While Yes, there is a lot more variety here, there are way too many currencies that you need to run very specific missions to get, so trying to unlock a rep as well as getting the gear for it, as well as trying to get end game gear and gearing your crew and ship to be more capable. That's where the grinding is, that's where people find themselves doing the same thing over and over again, most of which is still broken or flawed at the moment, which just makes it all the less fun and taking out the fun of it all is what makes any grind too much.
Sadly, season 8 was all dedicated to grinding. Yes the Dyson zones are impressive to look at, but really, other than grinding for the two dyson specific reps, there really is no point or reason to go there. New Romulus had a very similar problem, and thanks to Cryptic trying to add quantity over quality, the over all quality of the game is getting worse as more things are breaking every time they try to add without going back and fixing/updating things, which brings me back around to...
Once Season 8 is out, Cryptic NEEDS to go back through the game and do a major Quality of Life pass to fix every thing and update outdated systems and mechanics.

I hope Cryptic stops believing this at some point because I guarantee you the real heavy-hitters in the gaming industry didn't get there by ignoring bugs in their product.
I gave up my fleet of 6 months and quit a while back due to bugs and game performance issues that goes back to launch. I'm sure I am not the only one who has done the same.
I respectfully acknowledge what Cryptic has done with the game and enjoyed it quite a bit, but I won't be coming back until something drastic happens.
