Free tier 5 ship

talonxvtalonxv Member Posts: 4,257 Arc User
Probably been brought up more times, but I'm new around here so I'll dive in feet first. I am still stumped to why there is no freebie tier 5 ship. I mean hell they gave one away during the 2 year anniversary for the Oddessy and Bortasqu. Both are not as good as the all up tactical, engineering and science variants.

Why can't those just be given to players when hitting 50. Just like when you complete Temporal ambassador you are given a free cruiser in an item. Same could be done at level 50 for klingon and Federation.

For romulans just a stripped down basic version of the scimitar. Now to make it more watered down, can't use universal consoles from rear admiral and up. Least we'd have a decent ship at 50 but not as good as the ones that cost 2500 CC.

Anybody else feel this way?

As a lifetime member, you do get a free ship at Level #50 (the Galaxy Retrofit, Defiant Retrofit or Intrepid Retrofit) for the Blue Team, the B'rel for the Red Team (there are two others, but I can't remember their names) and for the Green Team, you get an option of all the Retrofits with the exclusion of the latest Tactical Warbird and Scimitar.

You also get a free Veteran Ship. These are all character unique/specific too. As a F2P gamer, the ships you acquire at level #40 can easily take you through the rest of the game. I'm a lifetime subscriber, and I'm currently flying the level #40 Assault Cruiser. :)

Edit: FYI, the ships you get at level #40 are technically Tier #5 ships.

Cheap? The Lock Box ones are anywhere from 60mil upwards in price, and the Mirror ones aren't much different from the ones we already get at level #40.

    No Free T5 ships?

What about the Patrol Escort? The Sov? The Prommie? The Star Cruiser? The Luna? or the Destiny?
Don't look silly... Don't call it the "Z-Store/Zen Store"...
Let me put the rumors to rest: it's definitely still the C-Store (Cryptic Store) It just takes ZEN.

    Nope!

Cryptic need money, they need supporting, so throw in a few bucks and get yourself some nice tyres, I mean warp engines.
Hopefully I'll come back from my break; this break is fun; I play intellectual games.

    I hope STO get's better ...

srsly not sure what you mean here.

you get a T5 ship at lvl 40 of your choosing.
There is a free carrier coming up on 31st of october.
Just recently they were giving away some c-store ships for free...
then there was the summer and winter event, that rewarded some very, very nice t5.5 ships (on a level with lockbox and fleet ships) for free.

if this game's free 2 play model is lacking anything, it isn't free stuff

if you feel that way, i'm sorry...but why you feel that you are missing free ships i truly can't understand, since cryptic is actually throwing them at the players.

i'd advice you to wait for the free carrier that is coming up, and the winter event "free" ship grind.
    Go pro or go home

the Tier4 ships are capable of end game content, in fact the tier5's tend to make endgame to easy - that tier 4 ship you chose should be just fine for whatever you want to do content wise and enable you to earn a tier5 thru grinding if you dont want to pay to be honest.

Did you mean the lvl 50 ships? T5 is at lvl 40 and there's a lot of free ones.

Well, essentially the endgame ships are where they make their money. If they gave away a lower powered version, no one would go to the store, or join a fleet, or buy lockbox keys anything they make cash from.

Regardless, you can do all of the lvl50 content with the lvl 40 ships. So don't worry about it.

Well hell even if it's not free make the Basic Odyssey abotu 100,000 Dylithium. Least make it somewhat able to grind instead of now gotta drop dime spend god knows how much time grinding out 2500CC. I've already dropped some money on this game, but 25 bucks a shot for a new ship, annoying.

Yeah, you can get the Mirror Universe version of whatever ship you want for 40-200k EC, don't waste 200k Dil for the normal vendor version.

The basic Odyssey is available through Tier #5 Fleets for (I think) 200k Fleet Credits. No Dilithium required.

Well if you got the EC and as someone suggested hit up the exchange and buy a lockbox ship or you can farm dilithium and buy zen from the dilithium exhange.

yeah but that requires you join a fleet, and frankly I'm a tad sick of being spammed for fleet invites from people I don't know from squat.

It's kinda a ripoff if you want to be solo, but now you have join a fleet to get decent ships if you don't have the $$$

Yesterday I had someone invite me three times while I was sitting over Qo'noS despite me refusing them each time. Then when I pulled up with my Rommie they did the same thing again. I need to remember to turn that off in the options.

You could look at working towards buying a PWE store/Cstore ship using dilithium that is converted to Zen? Will take you some time mate, but you can exchange dilithium for Zen.

IF you play regularly, you could probably get one sorted in a month or so i would think.

That said, Re Fleets - one way to stop getting spammed (options aside) is to find a good fleet mate, there are plenty of nice friendly ones around.

That would require me wanting to be in a fleet with any of my 5 characters in the first place. I came here because it's a nice way to just go play on my own, enjoy stories and NOT have to be part of a group if I choose not to.

But it's either fork over money, or do what I don't want to do and join a fleet. But yeah I too need to turn off invite system. Had a joker while I was at the exchange try to invite me 6 times. Infuriating to say the least.

I solo all the time and I have never bought a fleet ship. You are delusional if you think you need to spend money to have a decent ship.

You are also ignoring the fact that we get a free T5 ship when we reach level 40. So there is no need to give away a second at 50.

That's a tier 4.5 ship, not 5. Take the promethius for example for star fleet. The one you get at rear admiral is a stout ship, but it's only tier 4.5 level. Tier 5 would be the multi-vector assault ship.

Technically they are tier 5 ships, but sure as hell don't have the capabilities of the ships available at VA level.

They Odyssey they gave away during the 2-year anniversary was the same quality as the basic Assault or Star Cruiser you can get for free at lvl 50. Just a normal, 9-console ship.
Least we'd have a decent ship at 50 but not as good as the ones that cost 2500 CC.

Most of the ships you buy in the c-store for 2.000/2.500 Zen are also of the same quality as those which you get for free at lvl 40. MVAE, Marauder, Atrox, Varanus, Armitage, Intrepid, Galaxy, Galaxy-R, Kar'fi, Tactical Escort, Dhealan Retro, Mogai Retro, Dderidex Retro, Haakona...etc...

They're all of the same quality as your free level 40 ship. 9 consoles, reduced hull, reduced shield mod. You just pay for a special console and a refund on the fleet version.

Just compare the Assault Cruiser (free) and the Assault Cruiser refit (2.500 Zen). Same Hull, same consoles, same shield mod, same turn rates, same weapon slots, same device slots, the same boff setup...

I'm afraid you're mistaken. The ships that you get at level 40 are T5. The VA ships that you can get at 50 are still T5 but are considered to be more of T5.5.

C store ships aren't needed, like it's been said you get a t5 ship at level 40. You will be spending 2500 zen for a different boff layout and a console which may or may not be decent. No need to make such a big fuss...

Following progression demonstrated so far (T3 to T4, T4 to T5), a hypothetical T6 cruiser would have 11 consoles, 14 boff stations, and 45.5k base hull. Not there yet.

yeah well, online games are notorious for not balancing well. Throw a rock at an online game, you'll find one of the top issues is balance.

    "worthless junk". rofl.

Way to blow it out of proportions and massively exaggerate.

"Slightly less flexible but still able to run almost exactly the same builds, while having better turn-rate and console configuration due to not being stuck with 2 meager tac consoles" would be more fitting.

You also ignored my first suggestion, farm dilithium and then convert that to Zen, then buy any C-Store ship you want that has a Zen price. the Tier5 ship you get for free is more than capable of doing this, you just have to accept that it will take a while.

Bare in mind cryptic do not in ANY way paywall content from you, ships and Cstore purchases are what make the game viable in terms of it actually existing.

If you want a Tier 5.5 ship you can have one without paying real money, without joining a fleet, you just need to farm fairly hard for it; but that should be acceptable give you can get a 2.5k Zen ship for nothing if you convert dilithium.

    Yes, yes they do.

Technically LVL 40-50+ vessels are Tier 5. There's no such thing as Tier 4.5, that would be a Captain level ship. Not as good as the VA versions? All the MVAE is a SCI focused version of the Advanced Escort.

I'd like to show you "the capabilities" of my Advanced Escort someday.

They offer all kinds of free ships. The ones at Lv40 is basically Tier 5. At least I can't tell the difference than the ones I got from the Zen Store. Or from other places. Stick around there will be a free ship offered at the end of this week.
