That's a tier 4.5 ship, not 5. Take the promethius for example for star fleet. The one you get at rear admiral is a stout ship, but it's only tier 4.5 level. Tier 5 would be the multi-vector assault ship.

Technically they are tier 5 ships, but sure as hell don't have the capabilities of the ships available at VA level.

    You got that backwards...

The ship you get at Rear Admiral, IS a T5 ship...

The Fleet Ships/C-Store ships, are by definition 5.5 ships, not T5.
Don't look silly... Don't call it the "Z-Store/Zen Store"...
Let me put the rumors to rest: it's definitely still the C-Store (Cryptic Store) It just takes ZEN.

    No Free T5 ships?

What about the Patrol Escort? The Sov? The Prommie? The Star Cruiser? The Luna? or the Destiny?

sovvie, prommie, star and luna are good ships, i have flown them around, but there are a lot better choices to find then these 4.5 class ships. i know because i have used them long enough to know that they are far from ideal for elite STF's and other elite based missions.

true t5 ships are the VADM ships, like the galaxy retro, prommie MVAM, defiant retro and intrepid retro. and i consider the fleet versions to be t5.5 versions, because they are even better.

so my point is, these ships mentioned in the quote are not true t5 ships in that they have nothing special about them and while they can hang around in a fight for a bit, in elite difficulty they are far from ideal and outmatched by VADM ships.

T5 starts at level 40, then at level 50 you unlock slightly better T5 ships, IF you are a 600 day vet, or lifetime subber, you get a FREE level 50 ship token, they removed this back before F2P so you wont see it come back.

P.S. Aside from BO layouts, stats from the MVAE and normal AE are the same, same with the regent, only ships with "Retrofit" or C-store only ships (ships without a free version already in the lineup.) have better stats than standard T5 ships, even then, its not that much of an improvement.

Also: only the TER, Gal-R and Intrepid-R were eligible for the claiming with the token.

Probably been brought up more times, but I'm new around here so I'll dive in feet first. I am still stumped to why there is no freebie tier 5 ship. I mean hell they gave one away during the 2 year anniversary for the Oddessy and Bortasqu. Both are not as good as the all up tactical, engineering and science variants.

Why can't those just be given to players when hitting 50. Just like when you complete Temporal ambassador you are given a free cruiser in an item. Same could be done at level 50 for klingon and Federation.

For romulans just a stripped down basic version of the scimitar. Now to make it more watered down, can't use universal consoles from rear admiral and up. Least we'd have a decent ship at 50 but not as good as the ones that cost 2500 CC.

    Anybody else feel this way?

The non-3-pack Odyssey and Bortasqu from the anniversary are on par with free T5 ships, and 2k-2.5k zen ships.

The only ships that are strictly better are 3-pack, fleet, and lockbox ships. And they're only better because they have 1 more console slot.

i have been around 3 years long enough to know that not everything is as it appears and these RA t5 ships are not true t5 ships no matter what. and you may also want to check the various stats between each ship, rank and fleet version. the wiki is a good place to start.

They are not onpar, they are a slight cut above. Compared to the oddy to the Sovereign you get at tier 5. Better durability, stronger shields and better BOFF layout.

You gotta pay the piper, that's why.
Said NO to Arc. Gets punished by not being given a free outfit, free lobi, and free shuttle. Now forced to use Arc's site when trying to get to STO site. Still not rewards for beta testing the Arc website by force. Bravo Cryptic.

Because Cryptic need to make money they want you to buy a ship. i mean jesus you get the 50 levels for free, once you hit 50 why not contribute something to the sustaining of the game?

You get a free t5 ship at level 40. You pay extra for t5+ and t5.5. That's part of the way cryptic makes its money. They're not here to act like a charity. They're here to make money, just like every other company in the world.

You can play the game just fine with your free t5. You can buy a t5+ to get a new skin and console, or you can buy a fleet quality t5.5. None of that makes any real difference in pve. You can do elite stfs in t4 ships with mark 8 gear without much difficulty.

That would require me wanting to be in a fleet with any of my 5 characters in the first place. I came here because it's a nice way to just go play on my own, enjoy stories and NOT have to be part of a group if I choose not to.

But it's either fork over money, or do what I don't want to do and join a fleet. But yeah I too need to turn off invite system. Had a joker while I was at the exchange try to invite me 6 times. Infuriating to say the least.

There are advantages to joining a fleet even for solo players and those not after fleet store items.

The biggest being access to fleet PVE content for achievements/accolades.

By not being in a fleet, you miss out on a lot of PVE content that isn't available if you are not in a fleet.

I am a solo player, not much into chatting and friending others, or running group/team content.

Stuff I want to participate in, I pug.

I created my own fleet for a few reasons:

    1. So I would stop being harassed for fleet invites (turn off in options if you chose to).
    2. Somewhere to dump fleet marks, and materials.
    3. Inventory Storage that my alts can also get to.
    4. Free Title changes on demand.
    5. Easy transfer of items between alts.
    6. Easy transfer of funds and now Lobi, between alts.

I have a couple of other players in my fleet and I tell them when they join that I do not give a hoot if they contribute to any of the active projects or not. The purpose of my fleet wasn't to rush to T5/T3/T3, but as a place to dump stuff casually.

I also try to keep up provisions in case those who are there want to buy something from other fleets, as provisions in your own fleet (except ship provisions) can be used in any fleet store if you get an invite.

While I understand that you are not interested in joining someone elses fleet, I would encourage you to create your own for the 6 reasons that I outlined above.

Creating the actual fleet itself is free, although getting 5 players together to create the fleet will usually cost EC as paying the other 4 players that are needed is an expected courtesy.

With regards to the original topic of this thread, I do not agree with the OP. Up to level 50 everything in this game can be gotten for free.

Begrudging the company the opportunity to make money to keep the game alive and the bills paid is, IMHO, an insult to them.

As others have said, even C-store ships can be gotten, without personally paying any real life money into the game, with a little bit of time and dedication as anyone can grind Dil and convert it to Zen through the Dil Exchange then use those funds to buy the C-store ships.

It is also possible to earn a very modest amount of Zen by completing and participating in the Earn Zen program that is available.

i have been around 3 years long enough to know that not everything is as it appears and these RA t5 ships are not true t5 ships no matter what. and you may also want to check the various stats between each ship, rank and fleet version. the wiki is a good place to start.

who said anything about fleet versions? fleet versions have been advertised from the start to be better than most C-store ships, it's also why you will never see a Fleet version of the assorted 3 pack ships, those 3 pack ships are already Fleet ship strength. I'm talking about Compare the RA level ships against their C-store counterparts. Check the Advanced Escort against the Multi Vector Advanced Escort and you will see, aside from the layout, this so called "better C-store version" has the SAME base hull, SAME weapon layout, and SAME shield modifier. the ONLY difference, aside from the console, is that the eng and Lt Sci turned into Tacs and the Lt Commander is now a sci.

If you can only beat a mission with a certain BO layout,or a special console, your not using your ship to its fullest.

Edit: since you mentioned fleet ships. heres the Fleet advanced Escort It has about 3k more hull, .09 better shield mod, and one more tac console slot. It also shares the same BO layout as the MVAE.

Edit 2: here, i'll even show you another set of ships to show that they arent changed between RA and VA versions. Soverign class and the Regeant C-store ship again, SAME base hull, Same base shield modifier, SAME weapon layout, only difference: console and minor BO layout changes. Fleet Soverign class Same basic layout as the Regent class, with slightly better hull and shield modifier, and an extra Tac console.

So you were saying about doing research? Research shows: 1. RA and VA C-store versions are the same with just an extra console, and slight BO changes, and in the case of the regent, a special weapon. Again, Fleet versions were always touted as the pinnacle of ships minus 3-pack ships.

Edit again: hmm, its been a couple hours. did my proof make you realize your error? P.S. just casue you've been here 3 years, doesnt matter much, I been here since beta.

Using that same logic, expecting players to pay $20-25 a pop for ships is an insult to them.

I don't begrudge Cryptic making money. I do object to the absolutely mercenary way in which they do it.

Well hell even if it's not free make the Basic Odyssey abotu 100,000 Dylithium. Least make it somewhat able to grind instead of now gotta drop dime spend god knows how much time grinding out 2500CC. I've already dropped some money on this game, but 25 bucks a shot for a new ship, annoying.

Honestly its no worse than WoW.. Blizzard also charges 25$ (Mounts). Its their way of keeping themselves paid. Remember its our money that pays their bills, they don't get paid we don't get anything from them. And its not "Precisely" 25 bucks a ship, for the T5's sure, but if you noticed the T1-4 ships are considerably cheaper. Sure its a little annoying, but if they gave away everything for free they'd be out of work in a few weeks and then there'd be no STO.
