    perfect example of trolling.

    Well no more than this.

The ToS defines Name calling a offence, so you guys are rowing the same boat.

Edit: And I am not saying you are right or wrong... I am simply saying that IF you feel someone is Trolling, you should report it, instead of answering in-kind.

It will get you much further, and you don't run the risk of getting an infraction/ban as well.
Don't look silly... Don't call it the "Z-Store/Zen Store"...
Let me put the rumors to rest: it's definitely still the C-Store (Cryptic Store) It just takes ZEN.

The only thing that takes 6 hrs, is to update the hard wear or changing the way the game processes like the game engine, and the only reason to change the engine/update, is due to performance problem and the DC pep have problems with.
In most cases you wont notice the game performance change, Unless you update your own PC. But you should depending on what the update is, Could see less lag and DC if done correctly, or it can be as simple as to handle more users as well. I forget how old this game is but if there using 8 year old servers can see the need for hard ware updates Witch can cost 6 figures min. I know one game i played there servers where down for 3 days due to hard wear updates. So six hrs, I can Wait.
To Explore or Not To Explore? That is the question..

Why do these topics suddenly appear, every time maintenance time is here?
Just like you and me, they want to make it better.

Why do maintenance takes so long, every thursday?
Just like you and me, they want to make it better.

On the day that PWE took over STO and the dev's got together, they decided to create a dream come true.
So they sprinkled moondust in your map and golden starlight bloom in your blue nacelles.

That is why all the players in STO Follow you all around

That's quite the paradox, how could you nerf nerf when the nerf is nerfed. But how would the nerf be nerfed when the nerf is nerfed? This allows the nerf not to be nerfed since the nerf is nerfed? But if the nerf isn't nerfed, it could still nerf nerfs. But as soon as the nerf is nerfed, the nerf power is lost. So paradoxally it the nerf nerf lost its nerf, while it's still nerfed, which cannot be because the nerf was unable to nerf.

I call it, the Stoutes paradox.

I can't believe you think the maint time is right? You should do maint at a time when the least amount of players would be affected.....

The current maint does not allow Eastern Time Zone players to play from 9am to 2pm!! and before the shard maint time change it was still ALL morning till noon - 1pm for us.

Maint from 2am - 5 am PDT would be the ideal time frame for ALL of the U.S. and/or rotate the maint times so that it is not ONLY us on the East coast who can NOT play ALL morning until the afternoon EVERY Thursday!

    SMFH..... :(:mad::(

Wow, how incredibly selfish. You want the devs who, if I'm not mistaken, are based on the West coast to get to work at 2am so that YOU can play when YOU want to play. Good grief. Ugly American, party of one.

Nope, I don't think so. When Into Darkness came out around about the same time the latest expansion came out, the servers were so busy people had wait timers to login. This would seem to indicate they had an especially arduous load on the servers during this time and the servers seemed to perform very well under the circumstances (yes there was some lag here and there).

Now, that no one gets a wait timer, EVER would beg the question -- why? Why the upgrades NOW?

I'm just going to go out on a limb and assume that micro-transaction games result in micro-transaction upgrades. Am I wrong?

In order to answer that, I would need to know more about how the system is actually set up, which I do not. As I stated in my original post, I didn't know precisely what they were doing.

Although some people think Cryptic is now part of PWE, this is not quite true - from a corporate standpoint, it's actually pretty different in that Cryptic is not merged with PWE, and as such still has some degree of autonomy, at least in theory. However, it IS obvious that PWE is trying to integrate Cryptic into its infrastructure. This makes sense from a variety of reasons, at least from their perspective, including reduced costs and easier integration of a variety of features and services. As such it is entirely possible this may, for example, have to do with software upgrades, which means that the infrastructure is improved for things they are mandated to do by the change in the common infrastructure for PWE games.

It's also possible that they're seeing something that we don't and normally wouldn't. For instance, and this is unlikely but let's just use it for the sake of argument, they're running out of hard drive space so they need to hook up a few hundred new hard disks. We would never know that they were hitting 90% of their disk space occupied, but it would still improve gameplay (and in an extreme situation, allow it to continue at all). Other possibilities might include internal software revisions that do not provide obvious upgrades, but would be beneficial. For instance, let's say that the Cryptic game engine now allows you to use Widgets, a feature every game programmer would crawl over their own mother to get. However, Widgets are not yet used in STO, and were not planned to be until some way of using them was available. Furthermore, it requires a reinstall of core software on their servers in order to make sure it works right.

Long story short, there are a million reasons why they might be doing this that would bore those of us who are not computer science majors, and even for those of us who are, there is no guarantee we'd be able to accurately guess at their reasoning, varying from load to corporate mandate to things that will benefit the game in the future in either a direct or indirect manner.

Or they could be de-tribbling the routers. Darn things are everywhere...

If we all agree to buy a specific amount of Zen today can we get a "shutdown deal" that reopens the STO server early?

I think both the left-wing and right-wing captains are willing to compromise to get back in the game ASAP.

Nope... I prefer the Infrastructure to be as slow as it takes them to make sure they are done properly.

Why on earth would you be mad that the server is down OP? What you should be mad about is the reason it is down and utter inefficiency of the patch notes.
Said NO to Arc. Gets punished by not being given a free outfit, free lobi, and free shuttle. Now forced to use Arc's site when trying to get to STO site. Still not rewards for beta testing the Arc website by force. Bravo Cryptic.

I strongly recommend you go outside and experience fresh air. I have a feeling you could use it. If you feel differently and do not wish to you may want to dig up the last person who wanted to do a class action lawsuit against cryptic and join up with them so CE you clearly have a strong and well built case here.

Also, for a real reason why, it is on their schedule and time zone/timetable to do it this way. Start of their mornings.

I think the key phrase in Brandons post is "Infrastructure" changes. That says to me that they have third party engineers working on their delivery systems/networking infrastrucutre ahead of Season 8, lest it bring the whole game to its knees. At least I hope so. Because this game is 24/7 and global there is no real "out of hours" and so its cheaper for Cryptic to bring in said engineers during "office hours".

This kind of planned outage is actually rare I believe. Most of the "patch" downtimes happen much later in the day.

Yeah infrastructure is great. But they need to add it so that way everybody isn't bugged when they ride around in mech warrior suits.
