I normally use my JHAS which I got recently, but today I decided to fly my fleet Defiant. So I queue up for a pug, just for the heck of it, even though I know better than to do so.
Can you imagine my horror when I warp in and engage the patrols to see four cruiser beamboats, two of which are rainbows?
Can you imagine my surprise when we get the optional?

Well, not all rainbow players are... unskilled. Some simply like it. :P
Okay, this isn't an STF, but I felt like I had to vent because it's starting to TRIBBLE me off like an STF. I'm talking about Vault: Ensnared. It seems like lately it's been really easy to TRIBBLE this up and get only half of the marks you can get. I've been hard-pressed to have a run where you can save all the ships, have 20% of the web completed, and/or kill the flagship. You tell people where you're going and then either everyone is following you or goes to the opposite direction. Then there's the cases where you'll tell the party that you're going to cover the bottom of the Vault, turn around, and there's two of your teammates with you, leaving a huge gap in the middle (and people wonder why the web is 20% complete in less than one minute). And then there's the ones that just blast the mesh weavers and widows instead of the VAULT WEAVERS!
In fact, just a couple days ago, I was doing a run in Ensnared with two of my fleet mates and we got teamed up with on guy that was AFK for most of the match and another that just worked on the mesh weavers and widows. In the end, we only rescued about six ships, the web was 80% complete, and we didn't kill the flagship.
Has anyone else been running into this problem lately?
Played yesterday with some friends a random queue ISE and we finished with 11:30 on opt timer. Than one of the pugs wrote in Chat, that he reported us as hackers and this isnt meant to Play STFs.
Almost felt laughing from my seat, i never imagined i could get reportet for doing high dps.

There are 36 min till the Bonus Marks Event so I figure I'd get a head start with my Romulan toon. I select the Elite Cure. The launcher comes up and I select accept. I warp in to see Borg Negh'var flying everywhere. I see a Jem'hadar Dreadnought adrift after being just killed. Across the top of the screen I see the button for Leave Map and in the center of the screen it says in red Mission Failed. I click Leave map. I open up the window to launch another instance thinking I am gonna be ticked off if that mission is on cool down for me... Nope, I am on a one hour cool down for leaving the match early WTH! Come one now, the mission was already blown before I ever arrived!!! Epic Fail on STO for this one

Same here. One of the cubes was destroyed and there were Raptors everywhere. Everyone left, but I stayed - I wanted to shoot at some borg ships. I killed everything there is to be killed and left. It was a little challenging to kill 3 neghs and 6 raptors at once, but I mange to reduce them to space debris in a few minutes. Of course, I exited the game after that - I saw all STFs grayed out and a timer ticking....
This was a PVP rather than an STF, but close enough.
So I go into a friendly 4v4 match with some guys from my fleet because I'm bored. That's right, me with the undergunned freebie star cruiser. It goes about as well as you'd expect considering my fleet leader is on the other team flying an Oddy with fleet antiproton beam spam but at least I'm making an effort. Even scored a few solid hull hits on him. Same can't be said of one of the other guys on my team, who spends the whole match with his dreadnought warbird parked at the spawn point.
How does a guy flying a freebie star cruiser with a hodgepodge of outdated equipment all the way back to a Mk VI victorium end up with a higher score than a guy with a dreadnought warbird? That's how.

I've certainly noticed that the 10% rule in ISE has gone out of the window lately - can't remember the last time I saw it observed.
Even when someone has requested it there has been at least one player on the team who flew off and did their own thing anyway.
Man where have you been? That was like a while ago.........At least the ones I've been in don't do it anymore because most people have the raw firepower to just burn everything down quick fast and in a hurry.....
Eh we get the occasional dude that still hangs on to it - but myself and others just blow right by it - sometimes without intending to.....

Uhm i see it used still quite often, every third game or so, but as allready mentioned, you dont really need it anymore, as Damage got so high (from the players) that you can aswell just blast trought it, on occasion teams even blew up the tac cube first, gate last.
Some time ago I noticed that STF pugs got polarized - there are hardly average runs anymore, only the really good or the really bad.
For example, I just bailed from ISE - 2 freebie Vo'quws and 2 escorts. After the initial cube was dispatched, one carrier went right, stayed 20km away from the cube and allowed his uncontrolled BoPs to take out a generator. On the left, escorts poked the cube while the second carrier destroyed a generator. After the left cube exploded, nanite spheres were practically on top of the transformer. Then one escort bailed and the other one started chasing regular spheres (ones that spawn above the transformer). On the left I tried to support the lone carrier by killing the cube, but he was not interested in winning, he just spawned more BoPs and ordered them to attack the remaining generators. It looked like only players who knew what to do were that bailing escort and me.

I am really starting to wonder if I am ever going to get into a pug CSE with players that can handle killing raptors (it baffles me how even in an undergeared cruiser i can handle three no problem, yet other players... just ... sit there feebly as they go right by)

I had two very bad STF runs just recently. The first involved one of the Omega missions with the Starbase. Everything went good until we were shooting at the Transformer. All of a sudden, the DPS we had going dropped like crazy and everyone had stopped shooting. A moment later, it started healing. Turns out my companions saw the Nanite Spheres, panicked and started shooting them.
Then, they run off and go keep shooting at the Spheres instead of just finishing the job. I decided to take the leaver penalty instead of taking the BS.
The second time was another Omega mission, The Cure Found. Everything was going swell until, boom, I.K.S. Kang sinks. We're told we need to leave the map to try again... and doing so means taking a leaver penalty. Augh...
Observe scimitar staying under cloak most of the match.
Be carrying the pug, and getting swamped by spheres. Watch teammates die, optional fails, it happens.
But then, the scim pilot starts running his mouth about how bad your DPS is. Parsing while we play I am at 9125, he is at a laughable 1834 (mostly due to the fact he hasnt shot a damn thing since the first transformer went down 5 minutes previous)
Banter back and forth, etc.
Blow gate, aggro tac cube. No points in threat or any consoles with threat on them.
Scimitar decides to try to prove how badass he is
Watch aggro never leave me. Observe ACT and see my dps vs cube is 16500 while his is about 5000.
Have much lolz.

CSE, everything goes okay at first notice I'm the only one curing kang if he gets attacked. get swamped by borg raptors and still only one trying to cure kang on a escort... i ask them to heal and the first thing another player does is engineering team himself at full health.. a match-making system would be nice.. as we failed soon after. i understand some people don't understand the game fully but at least practice on normal if you cant do elite.

Youre better off killing the raptors before they even get to Kang. One thing ive learned is there is no way to defensively fight this STF. No matter how much healing youre packing, the raptors will beat you.
So the solution is to stay off of Kang and nuke out the raptors where they spawn. Unfortunately most pugs never do it this way =/

If/when raptors make it to Kang, its usually over. The only solution is to kill them off before they get on top of Kang.
Training in normals would not benefit anyone, they are a totally different animal.

Be testing a totally new build on your fleet dhelan with your most undergeared toon. End up being top damage, healing, no deaths, and fight the hardest you ever have to complete an instance for 20 straight minutes. (the other guys tried, to be fair to three of them, they did their best)
Meanwhile watch the guy in the scimitar (the one I havent mentioned)... sit in front of the gateway. Literally sitting there. Shooting it. Yes, the invulnerable gateway. The entire time. He dies 5 times while doing this. For a whopping 949 DPS, less than half the lowest person that was actually trying to do it right. He was told how, we tried to tell him, he refused to listen.
I think I have officially reached my breaking point with pugs.

Nah, just don't expect them to be good. When you pug, treat it like a trip to the zoo. It may be boring fast and effective, or you may encounter animals you never seen before and thus stay longer to admire them. If the trip forces you to facepalm, just bail and try again some other time. Don't try to feed (teach) the animals, they are set in their ways and you will accomplish nothing.

So far my STF experiences haven't been all that bad, even though yesterday's afternoon's first STF was quite memorable in terms of incompetence.
My error was to queue up for KAGE while there were only 9 persons playing it at the time, according to the list (which obviously indicates one of the team is already missing a member), but let's pass onto this. I've got all Optionals validated already, so i tell myself that won't be much of a problem.
But no. As if it wasn't bad enough, i find myself teamed up with a certain player that i know for being notoriously under-geared, incompetent and unresponsive (i will not reveal his name out of politeness, even though i muted him). And thus the guy keeps dying in mere seconds, of course calling for help once he drops, and then remaining motionless and being killed again each time we revive him.
That comedy goes on for a good moment, at least enough for the team to fail the Optional because of him (imagine... failing KAGE's Optional... the shame...), till the guy finally leaves the team on his own (probably the one and only useful thing he did during the whole STF)...
But that's not over. Immediately after, two more people leave, leaving us a team of two to fight the Borg... Fortunately enough, one decent player beam down to help us finish the STF and at least get Omega marks for the main objective.
In short, that went pretty bad because of one single bad element, even though i'm still thankful towards those who joined after.
I know people hate PUG'ing, but....for me, it always adds a challenge to the sometimes dull grind.
Anywho...one of you mentioned how asking for a heal for KANG, a player essentially healed himself.
Hate to say it, but I've done that a few times myself: Click on KANG (or at least think I clicked on the ship) and proceed to hit one of my heal options, only to find out that I didn't in fact click, so instead heal myself (Hate when that happens), but it does tend to happen with others also.
Any way, was in a CSE, that sadly was a bit of a Noob-fest.
Asked how everyone wanted to proceed with no response from anyone. So, decided to go right, with everyone except the Tac that went towards KANG.
Proceed to trap the first group of BoP's with Grav well, get them taken care of, then go for the bottom set of nan-probes.
Well...the other three were shooting the Cube. Yep, the Cube.
Type in that probes need to be taken out first. No response. They continue to shoot the cube.
So I try to take care of all the bottom nan-probes (not easy in a dps-less sci ship) when the wonderful red "FAILED" pop's up.
Didn't realize that the TAC that flew towards the KANG at the beginning was sitting on the other side of the map..
Oh well
I am not a Mod. I am just a player. You have been informed
We were going to do the mrrmll strategy, but there was a player in the team who decided to botch up the mission by popping the cubes BEFORE WE WERE READY. It gets even worse when he starts calling us noobs even though HE was the one who botched up the mission.
Edit:removed the name of the player who botched up the mission.
Any ICN failed optional, ever. Practically a training wheels STF, in which lazy people with an inability to read blow the easiest optional in the game.
KASE - PuG (as usual)
We got rid of the tac cube, I went right, the other 3 went left (1 AFK-er). As I happily finish with the second cube and go back to take the 3 probes that spawned from my gate, I notice that there is a probe through the portal....I did a facepalm and continued. The other 3 were ready just before I destroyed my portal. No need to say anything else....the AFK-er didn't move the entire match.
On the other hand, I PuG-ed HSE, and we're done in 7 minutes...strange considering that one of the scimitars went in the cubes with FAW....

1)The game putting me into a round of CSE THAT ALREADY FAILED. Which forced me to take an STF leaver penalty.
2)In a round of CSE, a player in an Elachi S'golth Escort decided to become and STF idler just because we FAILED THE OPTIONAL due to the time limit.
The fix for the failed CSE instances I mean....last night I got 2 of them with 2 different characters......
