If you think that badly of Cryptic, then you must never have heard of Gameforge before, believe me, you'll be kissing Cryptic's boots in gratefulness at how much better they handle their games then Gameforge does, I can know, I play Tera Europe and it's a nightmare with Gameforge as publisher.
Meh, I could care less about Gameforge. Every coin has 2 sides. For every bad publisher you can name a good one. When things like this happen, it leads one to believe that Cryptic is right there with Gameforge on the wrong side of the coin.
Most of it's in the title. The update was in the state of the game. Clicking the Summer Event on the launcher takes you to: http://sto.perfectworld.com/news/?p=928221 which contains the update. The wording is pretty bloody clear.
So why did it end today (Aug4), somewhere near 10:00 pacific? As a person who was just one day from finishing the mission, I take it with some serious anger that after receiving the update, and planning around my life to still manage to get it, I have failed (and have no option but buy 9 to 11 keys if I'm determined to get the ship this year).
So, Bran, if you're out there. Is there a reason? Will there be a fix for another day? Are we SOL? Will we just get 40 pearls mailed to us?
As of 10:29PM (EST), 4 August 2013: the button for "Flying High" is gone! What happened??? I needed that one more day!!!!!
As quoted from STO Risian Event: ((Update! (7/19/13): As announced in the recent State of the Game article, we will be extending the time needed to get pearls by a couple of days for those who may have missed a day ? the new end date has been moved from August 2nd to August 5th, 2013 at 10AM PDT.))
You specifically stated on your own website, highlighted in green, that you would extend this event until tomorrow, August 5th, 10 am Pacific.
It is already turned off today, SUNDAY.

I have my own problem with this; not only has the "Flying High" event NOT been extended to 10:00 AM, but I can't even activate the project. Like a fool I put about 10 bucks worth of pearls into getting to 1000, then I go to turn them in and the project was removed from the available tab. So now I can either wait until next year or somebody can correct the issue (I prefer the latter). I have been a longtime supporter of this game and have put TO MUCH money into it to just wait until next year. This issue must be corrected.
This is another one of those things where if a company wants continued support, they need to live up to their commitments. I also have 40 left on a character, and should have this done right now, but no....
Well this completely sucks I was just barely going to finish. But then they take it away earlier then said, this isn't right.
Exactly, and because I was STILL willing to pay for the rest, I chose to spend about 10 bucks on pearls (I had a few more to get) only to find that the event in the reputation tab had been removed (I hadn't started it, and left the pearls in my inventory so that it was easier to track). If somebody could correct this it would be greatly appreciated.
Same thing here. I was lacking just 40 pearls and didnt want to open the project until i got it full. I made that mistake with the crystal shards and now I am unable to cancel that project.
I spend 50 lobi crystals on pearl packages to get my 1000 full only to find out the project didnt exist anymore.
I have to say that this is extremely annoying.
I would also like to know where to turn to to get a lobi crystal refund on the pearls I got.
Who here agrees that the event should be given another couple of days extension because of the broken promise? I spent Lobi on pearls last week so that I would have close to the amount i'd need to fulfill the required 1000.
With 51 pearls left to go, I only needed to run the event twice more before completing. I had enough time between cooldown to run both flights. Then I find out that someone ended the event before BRAN'S PROMISED END DATE of the 5TH, according to the State of the Game announcement and the News Feed.
Seriously, an extension is needed to fix this. Or they can give my KDF character the Risian Corvette for 949 pearls. I only need time for 1 cooldown between flights to get my 51 pearls, but what about others who were relying on being able to do it on the weekend and now have to deal with work schedules?
They said that they were cutting it off at noon PST on August 4th.
It was still working around 3~ hours before the cut-off because I did a circuit at that time, so if they cut it off early, it wasn't very early.
And the time that he OP is posting? It was supposed to be long turned off by then.

That is such a lame way to picture it... Oh, they aren't bad... Someone else is worse. You should be happy they aren't that bad?... Okay, then next time you get food that is totally unpalatable, I want you to remember that it could be worse, and enjoy it because it's not.
Just because things can be worse in no way make things better, nor to they change where the quality 'bar' that everyone is aiming for should be located... It also doesn't mean that a company with a fine reputation of quality should throw quality out the window just because none of their competition have any quality.
The proper argument is never that Company A could be as bad as Company B so suck it up. The Proper argument is always that Company A is proof that Company B could be better, the goal always being to improve and not to get worse.
Hey all, I think the best thing to do in this case is just settle down and turn these lemons into lemonade Let's hear from the glass-is-half-full crew out there and get some positive vibes flowing in this thread while the problem is sorted out!
What cup is half full?.. They could have skipped the event altogether? Really?... They could have? and they could have spent that time fixing bugs or adding real content?...
Yeah.. I don't see any cup is half full here... It's not like "Yay!! Cryptic screwed me over again!!"
Common knowledge that F2P games offer substandard service and quality, even if you 'invest' a lot with the micro transactions or optional subs.
Personally, I bought the lifetime. But I fully expect them to close the game anytime they want, or lose data due to badly invested funding. Bugs and so forth are all expected. Because this is a F2P game, and F2P games tend to offer the lowest type of quality and customer care. It's the way the business works.

So what if you are a lifetime or gold subscriber? Once again the flawed logic of the Cryptic apologist. It's lazy garbage that the mission was taken down a day early, bottom line.
I know that blog said the 5th. But if you open up your mission tab in game and click on the icon, it says August 15th. So you still have more than a week to get your fancy new yacht.
I can see the concern for Active Military not having time to come into game. I have a friend in the Canadian Army who missed the entire even because of his being stationed in Afghanistan all year. But for those of us living in the Civilian world, it is a different story entirely. Running the daily Pearl mission only takes 5 minutes. Literally, 5 MINUTES! I know you can spare 5 minutes before going to bed or before heading off to your job. In fact, that is exactly what our fleet leader ended up needing to do.
Our fleet leader has a full time job, a wife with medical problems, and 2 very young children. He spared 5 minutes of each night to come into game just long enough to get his daily Pearls, then log back off. After a month, he got his Risa Corvette.

Who says it was taken down early, there is clearly 2 dates from Cryptic going about, 1 date was an error - you cannot say which one was the error, only they can.
Just because the 5th suits you, does not mean that was the correct date, so how about getting off your high horse and just consider the 4th was the right date, as proven by, it's been turned off.
Sorry, but the game does not revolve around you or anyone else, who, out of 35 days, decided to plan 36 - life lesson, don't leave things until last minute

@Fraethir
You guys gonna have to wait till tomorrow for answers, and any action.
Fixed that for you.

The event ends on the 15th? Why a different end date for Flying High anyway?

UFP character: Asa@gethralkin1
KDF character: Geth@gethralkin1
RRW character: Ral'kin@gethralkin1
This is just outrageous.
If they are not willing to live up to their promises, I would kindly ask for a refund on the 10 pearl packages i bought for lobi crystals.
I advised my guys to post here, and file tickits...devs wont help people who dont speak up;)

Go to Risa, special event, and talk to the NPCs
I hope STO get's better ...
I do care for Cryptic's image.
WHAT HAVE YOU DONE CRYPTIC?
IT LOOKS LIKE YOU SHOT YOURSELF IN THE FOOT?
I hope STO get's better ...

It is a peculiar phenomenon that we can imagine events that defy the laws of the universe.

Yup, they do
