The communication here has "not been great." The Wiki implies one thing, the blogs and announcements changed the date twice, people search online and find the wrong info, and people were asking in Chat every five minutes because of all the conflicts.
And it seems the news announcement was wrong, leaving a bunch of disappointed people.
I got my ships, but I did take time to show up before the end to get a few more pearls planning for next year - or not, as it turns out.
AFAIK there is no evidence to suggest this will be available next year or that the prize will be the same.
Well, sort of.
They made no guarantees, of course, but they did imply that there will be more Summer Events in the future. Which implies that there will be more free prizes.
The same prizes? Who knows?
All I care about is that I can save my pearls for next year and hopefully use them to get something.
I'll be a bit piqued if they sit in my bank for a year for no good reason. But then again, I'm still hanging on to a Delta Flyer schematic for sentimental reasons
I wasn't going to get the corvette this time around one way or the other, so I'm resigned to that and one day either way wasn't going to make much difference.
My views may not represent those of Cryptic Studios or Perfect World Entertainment. You can file a "forums and website" support ticket here Link: How to PM - Twitter @STOMod_Bluegeek

Odds are this was an accidental switch that happened before the event was scheduled to end. Plus, it was the weekend so a reply was probably not going to happen until today which I'm sure Branflakes will say something soon

If there was an accidental flip of the switch resulting in early termination of this event, then Cryptic is obligated to add an additional day or two to compensate certain people for not completing the event early.
I certainly hope this gets taken care of. Even if it was a typo it still wouldn't be fair to the gamers (like myself) who couldn't get their ship when they had planned to. I myself bought the last of the pearls I needed, but then couldn't cash them in because the project had been removed from the event reputation tab (I'd kept them in my inventory for easier tracking, and figured that the project would remain up for some time). Please, Cryptic, just give us what we were promised!
They probably ought to (yes, I know I'm not the one doing the coding) add some kind of one-time extension to Flying High for anyone (note I did not say one *day*).
i.e. let anyone do *one* FH run for 40 pearls between now and the 15th. And announce it.
Because you *know* if they extend it one day a bunch of people who missed it will log in in two days and be just as disappointed.
Once you miss one deadline you create more missed deadlines. Mistakes don't like to be alone.
1. Event starts
2. Event is borked and some people cannot do the flying high mission for some number of days.
3. Cryptic realizes it is borked and fixes it
4. In an attempt to do the right thing Cryptic extends event for a number of days
5. In a very poorly executed attempt to do the right thing Cryptic posts that event is extended until x date. Unfortunately different places give different dates.
6. It appears there are valid sources from Cryptic that give both the 4th and 5th as the cut off date.
7. Cryptic, having no idea that they posted both the 4th and 5th as the cut off dates, cuts off the event on the 4th because that is what they always planned to do
8. People who read the Cryptic information that said the end day was the 5th are feeling cheated because they planned to finish it on the 5th.
9. The posts begin and some folks are reasonable and others totally lose their minds
This is clearly a mistake by cryptic. I will be interested in seeing how they respond, if they respond at all. In my opinion they posted the information that it would end on the 5th so they need to compensate people that took them at their word. Someone who reads information on their website or blog has no way to know they've made a mistake or posted incorrect information in one or more places with the correct information posted somewhere else.
So my question to Cryptic is, did you really want to do the right thing, or was that just a PR move? Because if you meant to do the right thing, here is your opportunity.
And for the person who posted that they have brought dishonor on the IP, perhaps you would like us to hold a discommendation ceremony? You made me lol.
Get your facts straight, it was extended because the first week the mission was out many players could not complete the mission. You completed 2 courses but could not complete the 3rd. Now this monkey rodeo....what the heck Cryptic?!
facts is and it was listed and shown in the old thread when people were begging for it to be extended that from the point that they fixed the mission error people still had enough time to complete the event even with no extension. the math was already done I saw it others did as well. they gave 2 extra days that were not needed and people still didn't do it. if they extend it a week from today the next day more people will be crying that they didn't get it done and need it extended further.
Trophies for killing FEDS ahh those were the days.
Well I have wrote to Support Ticket and forums and still waiting..I hope that they fix it.
Had a lot of personal happenings that made it rough to get it done.
It's just been tweeted (and probably being posted as I type this lol) that it has been extended till this Wednesday to make up for the lost time!

Tweeted. I love this company. They tweeted it. They changed the thread title. They did not make an official announcement on their website. Fantastic. I don't understand why they don't just shut their website and forums down and move to twitter.

Um I edited the title, not Brandon, he tweeted it and posted it here but I saw the tweet first and posted that.
Anything important gets put in a post on the website and advertised on twitter/facebook. They don't just do one or the other when it comes down to this kind of stuff

Brandon wasn't even responsible for editing the thread title. That part of your post didn't help the cause any. Perhaps while thread titles are being edited, why not edit the one under the news tab saying there was an update, and update the op to link to Brandon's post?
I'm sorry but I can't help but laugh at the second part of your post. It is quite inaccurate to the point where it is humorous.

Exhibit 1. If the game is going to be expanded to encompass a whole new system, would that perhaps qualify as important?
I can provide more if you want.
As for editing this thread, that was my decision (wasn't asked too by Brandon) and I didn't think to update the first post to link there. Sorry.
As for the MAC support incoming --
It was posted in an interview, which was linked on the front page

From what I can recall of the interview in question, it wasn't stated outright that mac support was incoming. Even if it was, it still deserves it's own dedicated thread informing people since you can tell from a lot of the interview threads that people aren't willing to listen to them.
Mac support is infact incoming and on page two of the thread I linked an individual said that it was confirmed on twitter.
There have been several occurrences when there was unexpected server down time due to crashes and what not where the official response has been on twitter instead of their own website.
This thread in question was formed due to a tweet. Asking for feedback via twitter and no accompanying thread on their own website and forums is simply insulting. Not to mention the fact that the thread has reached a grand total of 13 pages (may continue to grow) and has went that long without a post by Cryptic in the thread.
Mail nerf 1 that accompanied LOR was discussed via twitter, yet I don't believe I've seen a single post by Cryptic on it to date. This is not including mail nerf 2 which was included in the patch notes.
You are far more likely to get a response to a question you have via twitter than the following means of communication: forums private message, support ticket, forums thread, forums post, ingame private message, and ingame mail.
Again the lack of communication on their own forums compared to twitter is insulting.

When they need OFFICIAL feedback on ideas not just random things popping into their head, sure they'll post on the forums. They've done it before many times. But they also use twitter to toss out possibilities that MIGHT happen in the future or might not. Plus 9 times outta 10 a thread gets posted anyways :P
The developers are not under any obligation from what I know to use the forums as that's pretty much Branflakes job. To take any posts/threads and relay the relevant information to them.
Their twitter accounts are just that. Theirs. They can do as they so please with them and if they wanna see what kind of support they'd have on twitter before announcing anything hard set then they can. Again this is what I think not an official statement of any kind.
Remember - Communication from developers isn't something they're FORCED to do. They do it because they want too. How they want too is up to them

They don't have to do anything. They don't have to keep releasing content either, but if they don't the game would eventually die out.
Customer service and communication is vital for a business of any kind. If I went to a store and was dissatisfied with something I could ask to speak with a manager. If I went to a restaurant and was dissatisfied with something I could ask to speak with a manager. If I played this game and was dissatisfied with something I could _____. Yeah I'm not entirely sure what to put in that blank. Making a forums thread hardly works, support tickets are about the same.
