This only affects your starter B'Rel or hte B'Rel retrobit on the KDF side. On any other next ship, you can customize it without being prompted to buy the Exeter.
Just bought a T2 fed Escort, and 750 zen charge appears, tried all of my guilds and random zone "work around" suggestions, the 750 zen would not go away. Irritating, but I guess I will just fly the "stock" ship for 10 levels.

Ok, haven't tested this on the KDF or Rom Republic, but I think I have some incite into this on the Starfleet side.
I noticed as I was leveling some characters that this does not seem to be limited to the Miranda class, as I tried to customize the constitution refit and got the same 750 zen charge. Which is when I noticed something. It seems to be tied to "Windows 1". Any time I tried to use windows 1 on any starfleet toon, I was charged 750, and asked to buy the exeter class. But if I chose a different window option, the charge went away. Hopefully this helps Cryptic track this bug down.
Using the customize ship with KDF ships is adding Zen charges to the kitbashing, even for standard options. Even not changing anything that I already have, it adds 750 zen immediately to the charge. WTF.
It's happening on every tier 5 ship I have on all my KDF characters, except for the Kar'fi.

Is this a bug? Is this extortion?
Why do one when you can do both.
I still don't understand whay no one in development or customer service has updated this. Anything that costs money should be place 1st on the list of items to address. Before Server Stability, before the Reputation System, before Liberated Borg. This has been going on for a significant amount of time, get the dam thing fixed!
i've been reading various threads during down-time and have seen several posts mention that if you change a ship in the ship tailor it now costs zen?? is this true? i have not noticed any zen cost in the ship tailor... but i'll admit i wasn't looking too closely when i modified several of my ships while leveling my new rom toon. so, it this true or not? if it is true...this is NOT a good thing at all!!!
if it's true can someone tell me when, exactly, are zen-costs added? i assume the 1st mod of your ship is free but after that the zen-cost is added?? i change my ships a lot as my mood suits me...but if zen is added i'm done modding my ships.
If you select parts that are available only to C Store variants then, just as with the costumes for your character, there is a Zen charge. Make sure you only select free parts if you don't want to pay.
It's a known bug that it's asking for zen to customize your ship without using parts from a z-store ship

Nah, its not that, it is a bug. If you try to change the ship parts for free parts, then it always comes up with the price of 750 ZEN.
Though, I have to say, I didn't notice it on my Rommie, just my Fed and my Klink....
I think it might be the Type 1 windows that are part of the bug: when testing customization options, choosing the Type 1 window is what triggered the 750 Zen fee.
I have not yet played a Fed or KDF since the patch went live, so I have not been to the shipyard with them.
Yes, I noticed the bug on tribble and reported it.
No, it does not seem to effect the Romulans . . . only fed and KDF it seems.
My romulan character was effected by it. But only after I accidently clicked on one of the Zen store parts. I clicked back to the regular, and the Zen charge was still there. Exited the editor, and the Zen charge was still there. Guess I'm stuck with the bland generic look for now, until they fix it.
Yeah after a week the game still wants 1,000 Zen just to use the paint scheme on my Scorpion Fighter. Really Cool 1,000 Zen to change the paint on a 500 Zen C-Store ship.
unpainted and no edit, an instant 750z to change nothing ...
where i come from we call that "racket" ball rofl ...
(if someone actually got hooked by this bug with no z refund it would actually look more like phishing for z returns, but that is just a legal observation)

I can confirm this for the Sovereign and its variants. I wanted to change to one of the default designs and it was trying to charge me 750 ZEN unless I changed the windows from type 1 to type 2.
If I had to guess I'd say that the game is for some reason listing some of the components on ZEN bought ships as costing ZEN even when they should be free.
quite interesting to say the least, you think they take the feature it's self down until it does not have the potential to drain money, to protect the user from such a dreaded bug, involving "points" bought with real money, Kings Isle disabled their crowns for gold option instantly after hearing word when the users where getting 10,000 gold instead of the advertized 25,000, they actually took down the option and waited till it was fixed to reintroduce it, scary thought, a company, that actually tried to protect it's users ... lol
(history for thought)
Trust me when I say there is no certain component causing this bug.
Click randomize and see.Sometimes it lands something that costs nothing and you can change certain parts but not others.Strange thing is when you change a part and get the dreaded 750z charge changing it back don't fix it.

Its totally random.
No, it is completely 100% NOT RANDOM. It's clearly an error in the data. Many parts across many, many ships are clearly marked as belonging to C-Store ships. Fixing the data by hand is labor-intensive, and Cryptic doesn't understand the concept of scripting, so they probably told the same intern that created the "add a romulan character slot" sql patch to go through and fix the data. So the intern will be done some time next month and submit a patch that only fixes half of them.
Cryptic doesn't care, because the bug doesn't affect Romulans, and might even trick some people into paying the zen, thus making them more money.

1) This is an issue that appears to be fully server side and potentially costs players real money. It was reported before going live. Two weeks on live without a fix. This clearly demonstrates that they don't care.
2) The incompetence with which they patched the system so that non-paying customers got a romulan slot, but paying customers did not clearly shows a level of sloppiness generally associated with intern-level experience.
3) The issue not random, because it is happening to all of the same ships and parts, regardless of character or account. If it were only happening to some people, or only happening some of the time, it would be random. This issue is decidedly NOT random. Additionally, the fact that it occurs to certain ships and certain ship parts, rather than all ships or all ship parts, heavily suggests that the error is in the data, not in the code. A coding error would generally occur across all items.
4) Cryptic's inability to deal with data scripting is demonstrated by their response to the [borg] space weapon issue. Rather than going through and fixing the data (flagging things as being [borg]), something that could be done quickly by anyone with an understanding of the data and even moderate scripting experience, they instead decided to just deprecate the weapons and sweep it all under the rug.
I'm not talking about issues that are tough to track down, such as the fact that one of my boff's first appears as a klingon bird of prey on my character sheet every time I log in (the boff's name appears next to a bird of prey icon and up in the middle of the ship/shuttle list) or my dept heads not always saving or inability to change costume or the ship's station list appearing random half-empty or one of the innumerable other bugs LoR introducued. Issues like this one both potentially cost players real money AND are rather obvious in their source.

It is a peculiar phenomenon that we can imagine events that defy the laws of the universe.

This is happening to KDF ships like the Qin, Heghta, and Voquv. Those ships don't even have any C-store variants!

So what you're saying is that you're obscuring the issue by hiding it in a massive room filled with other similar bugs you are ignoring?
Yep, that describes LoR so far.
