This happened on my Klink toon with my T5 c-store B'rel.
Hi all. Firstly, thank you to the Cryptic Devs who cleared the black spots from my B'rel, it looks sooo much better. To celebrate this, I went to change the ship skin at the KDF shipyard to change my ship skin.
The skin currently is part Koloth, part B'rel (this was to reduce the black spots as much as possible) But all I wanted to do, Is put it back to 100% b'rel.
When I did this, It wanted just over 5,000 EC, which is fair enough, but then it also wanted 750 zen!!! I thought this might be a glitch with a c-store ship, but then I tried to change the skin on Hegh'ta bird of prey (the bog standard T5 BoP) and it again asked me for 750 zen.
I didn't accidently have a premium part selected or anything. I checked, double checked, and triple checked.
I hope this is a glitch, and that we all wont be forced into paying Zen everytime we change the skin!
I'm not sure if this happens on the Fed side as well, but certainly on the KDF it does.
This happened to me on Tribble, too. I was messing around with a Fed character to see if they updated the tutorial at all, and noticed that I couldn't modify the NX class's colors, material, or windows without buying the Exeter.
It's definitely just a bug that needs fixing, no real light to shed.
From what I gather it only affects the T1, T5 and probably the B'rel and no other ships.
And the 750 Zen are charged due to a bug that links the B'rel with the Fed Exeter skin and...demands you to buy that skin.
It's one of the strangest bugs I've seen yet.
Thank god i'm not the only one. Well, seeing as its a bug, I shall patiently wait. I can imagine the Devs are working around the clock ATM, so i shan't be going in demanding anything! lol
I had a similar issue when trying to change the skin on my Vor'cha to the Tor'khat. This was after they removed ship costumes from the C-store, and made the fleet variants only use those skins. I have also run into it with common uniform pieces. I have found a work around that works for me, and MAY work in this instance if the cause is the same.
Choose your customization, and hit the SAVE button. Next, hit the LOAD button and select the uniform or ship costume you saved. If it still won't apply without wanting to charge you, I have found that closing the customization interface and opening it again, and then hitting LOAD will work.
I didn't run into this on Tribble, I only got to log in for a brief time, but give this a try and report back your findings, especially if it works, so others can use it.
They make a wondrous mess of things. Brave amateurs, they do their part.

Yeah I'll get on it in about 30 mins when I finish work, and I'll let you know. Thanks for the tip dude
As a Reman character, I've got my original enterprise ship from the zen store, yet when I go to change the interior to the constition one from the STO Bundle that I own, it has a charge of 750 zen.....?
Ship customizations are kind of wonky right now. For example, trying to change the exterior of one of the new KDF BoPs makes the game demand you buy a Federation cruiser from the C-Store.

It'll get sorted.
holy-smokedy-bones!!! well, alrighty, just glitches to fix, that's cool, as long as I know it'll get fixed thats what matters.
Ok so the saving and loading option hasnt worked. I also tried the randomise option, and yes, you can get it to zero, but the second you try to mod the ship, it switches back.
This si a silly issue! The one option I am sure will work will be to discharge the ship, and get another B'rel, but with all the bugs, I might not get another!
I'm having the same issue. I just started the KDF and ROM stories to check them out and the free ship customization is charging 1000z. I really dig my Fed ship with it's dark hull and mixed matched parts. I was planing on creating a unique Bird of Prey, but it's charging zen. I hope this gets fixed soon.
For what it's worth, I have the same issue with my newly purchased K'Tinga, and it charges for just going into the customization screen - I don't have to change any settings, it's 750, kthxbye.
Yeah, I did cancel.
Had the same thing with my K'Tinga earlier today. I clicked on the "K'Tinga" button on the left and the Zen-charge vanished. That may be a workaround until they fix it.

Just bought a standard escort at level 10. When I go in to customise it, it shows a cost of 750 zen before I have even made any modifications. Is this a known issue ?

*EDIT: thratch1, the NX is affected too???*
Submitted as a ticket in game, because this isn't in release notes.
It was on Tribble. I don't own the NX on Holodeck, though, so I can't confirm.
Okay, thanks.
I don't either so I think we'll have to wait.
But given the B'rel bug was imported from tribble as well I think it's likely.:):(

And we are only talking a recolour here
some ship costumes are actual costumes of retrofits which will cost money watch when you do that or youll be paying c points for it
