Sure, I vote for worth it. I am certainly not happy about the attachment limit that snuck in with LoR, but that just saved me the $199.99 for a LTS and a bit of Zen for extra character slots. Otherwise, the game itself is decent enough, and we did just get a nice chunk of new episodes to play.
For what I've put into the game, I feel that I've gotten enough to keep me occupied. I will happily contribute more when they manage to restrict themselves to behavior I feel like rewarding
With each passing day I wonder if I stepped into an alternate reality. The Cubs win the world series. Donald Trump is President. Britain leaves the EU. STO gets a dedicated PvP season. Engineers are "out of control" in STO.
I agree with you, any more Patience or Cheers is going to send me over the edge. I gave myself a deadline of this Wednesday to see if the login of my main character is fixed. If not I am going to make a point in calling them directly, every day until I hear something. This is total BS, ignoring the people who are having problems is not good business. If I heard a status of the problem then I would be more patient or cheerful.
If I was a billionaire the first thing I would do is buy this company out and fix things right away.
Fleet Admiral of the U.S.S. ATTILA KHAN-CDA (NX-921911).
If you refer to a game (something supposed to be fun) as a hassle(something bothersome) you answered your own question. Take a break, play some other game for awhile as someone else suggested. The game will still be here when your ready to play again.
after that incident last night where accounts were unable to authenticate.
and after logging in today to find 3 fleet members talking about how they paid for legacy pack and never got it (big waste of money)
and then trying to do a PvE queue mission and discovering that the auto leave bug is STILL THERE.
pretty clear STO, or to be more specific, CRYPTIC games, are not worth this hassle.
they dont know what they're doing, all thier games are bugg ridden(STO still has buggs from FKING LAUNCH, neverwinter isnt even officially released and players running from it)
STO had potential, thats why i stayed. with the foundry and space/ground combat combo, the game could have lasted a long time.
but with Cryptic not fixing the bugs, making new bugs, ignoring factions in favor of the bigger factions, not much endgame 3 years after launch, no pvp, and in general havign a customer support that doesnt listen to you but instead makes things up and says we said it.
heck the bugs should have been fixed ON TRIBBLE. the patches tested ON TRIBBLE. THATS THE POINT OF TRIBBLE.
i'm sorry but no...just no.

I love the game and the content- but until LOR came out I knew I could always log in and play for a bit. Now that LOR has come, logging into the game is like playing craps. It's hit or miss. Between the crashing to desk top, the disconnects, etc. It's getting to the point where the game is more trouble than it's worth. I hate saying that, and I'm sure they are busting their asses to remedy these issues. But, isn't that what Beta is for? What internal Q&A is for? To quash the bugs, so the players don't need to contend with these issues?
No one in STO is obligated to share your viewpoint or leave the game because you're having a bad time with it. People sit down with their own set of expectations and tolerances and their mileage WILL vary from yours. I've been having an amazing time with STO; I've been subbed for two years and may yet get a LTS. I've only seen it get better - in my opinion. Opinion is the name of of the real game here. The fact you think the game sucks does NOT mean that it actually does - only that it does -for you-. You can come here howling for cryptic/PW's blood all you want, but there are more than enough people who think this has been a grand experience that I can't see how you're going to change anything. If it doesn't work for you, move on. Simple.
So, the question is does this latest hiccup finally push you to another game or are you too invested or too big of a fan to throw in the towel?
"Legacy of Romulus" does a mess of things right, and it also does a mess of things wrong. Even though the emergency maintenance is a slight issue, the "Legacy of Romulus'" problem resides with intense limited options.
First, unlike the Federation and KDF factions, the Romulan faction is limited to one free ship 'option' per rank. Subadmiral I is the only rank in which you get to choose from three different free ships. You have to spend a ton of dilithium to purchase an allied faction's ship.
Second, as a result of being restricted in options, the player also cannot customize how their Romulan ship looks. Players can change a ship's color and markings; however, the number of interchangeable pieces are almost nonexistent. Cryptic has also limited players to one type of bridge.
Third, the ability to buy different rarity types of bridge officers does not exist. I could be wrong with this observation. I was only able to see the ability to buy common bridge officers.
Fourth, the Romulan c-store ships are very limited. Players are given three options: (1) buy the limited one free ship, (2) buy the limited one free ship's retrofit, or (3) buy a ship from your allied faction. Until players hit the rank of Subadmiral I, the ability to choose between Romulan styled escorts, cruisers, and science vessels does not exist.
Here is the kicker... While I am very happy with the new faction, I do not have the patience to see it become fleshed out. I have played "Star Trek: Online" for about a year and a half. I have also spent around $280 on zen purchases. Cryptic did a fantastic job on "Legacy of Romulus'" environments, story, clothing options, and interfaces. All the core elements are in place.
So, what is the big deal?
After I finally got to level 45, I decided to take a quick look ahead. I am eager to buy my level 50 c-store ship. Only one problem, since I am a diehard fan of the Armitage, the only Romulan alternative is a horribly designed (recycled) Mogai. I hate it.
Second, once I completed the new Romulan missions, I played through the old Romulan featured episodes. While I do love how Cryptic tied things together, I lost all passion once the Romulan story was over. As a result of playing the Cardassian, Borg, Breen, and Spectre missions a million times, I was suddenly hit with a large wall of boredom. So, I used the Mirror Universe event to bring my avatar to level 45.
...and, then I just stopped.
"Star Trek: Online" is worth the money and time, for as long as you restrict your playtime to at least a year. You have to be suffering from game addiction, loneliness, and obsessive compulsive behavior to play it for long periods. Since most of the player's game time is dedicated to repetitive tasks, the only individuals who will play "Star Trek: Online" forever are obsessive completionists. You just have to know your limitations. Know when to pull the plug.
Part of the OP's issue is a matter of scale. LoR saw a HUGE server load compared to the week before. The first day had instance numbers of the first tutorial map (which is an adventure zone) soar into the low hundreds. That says a LOT about how many people were playing ROMULANS that day alone. If you add in all the players conducting "business as usual", well.... hehe.... that's a lot.

I'm afraid the moment you mentioned EVE, I just thought that I would rather play a bugged Season 1 Sto than that game.
Honestly the game is good, and forgiving. Its a personal taste thing.
You can also get things done with it if you only play an hour a day or such, which is great if you got a job, family, or other things that take priority when you assign your time.
Saying you got one character, tagging epohs, running a vault event and an elite stf once a day for marks takes around.... 30-45 minutes. And that is great if you want to play it casually.
Let us wear Swimsuits on Foundry maps or bridges please! I would pay zen for that.
EVE Online, eh? If you think Cryptic's servers and games are bad after a major patch, just wait until you encounter how bad CCP's EVE server is after a major patch.

In all my time playing Eve, and its been a good few years, more often than not, they're up, faster than advertised, and only down for expansions, which are few. STO, has been down more and more, and has a extended history of crashing/ lag fests, et all.
I came back to try LOR on tribble, it took a week to get, played for a few, realized i couldn't make a Klingon and or a Rommie, stopped playing. Came back for release. took 5 hours to download, got in, and, realized its too little to late. As a LTS, having to suffer that long of a download for tribble was aggravating, mind, redshirt patched 14 GIGS, in under 10 minutes. For me, its not, the Rommies aren't a faction, they're the next half faction. The UI, is nice, I will admit, tad too cartoonish for me, but still nice. But I don't play for a UI.
Its annoying to be sure when you pay ( with cash or time) to play a game thats crashing or laggy or patching or whatnot. I played the beta, played till season 3? ( the season that came out with aim mode lol) , un subbed and came back about a year or so ago. I love it, it gives me my star trek fix looking at my ships, fighting off loads of jem hadar ships and killing borg. love it! Is it worth it? YES!
Ive played Eve Online since 05 and its a fun game, but eh its too seroius and very punishing if you make a mis step, here your ship can blow up and it doesnt cost you a thing to replace.
However, the bugs in STO are annoying cause they should have QA'd the **** out of the LoR xpac, since they have advertisted the heck out of it from way back when and now..it crashes! such TRIBBLE! but thats ok, i had my wife download the patch while Im at work, and since Im a truck driver, all this down time, doesnt bother me so much..that is till i get home...
Firstly, it's "queue". That's Q, U, E, U, and E. Not que, or cue, or Q. With that out of the way...the freakin game is down maybe 5% of the time. I can count on one hand the number of MMORPGs that release steady updates that have a better uptime.
I can't count on one hand, however, the number of people that whine about stupid TRIBBLE in every single MMO ever released. It's the same on every forum or blog or whatever. It doesn't matter how good the game is or bad..how often it goes down or how crappy the service is..people like to whine. They will whine about anything..it doesn't matter.
The game could be handing out real life golden nuggets and people would complain that it isn't handing out diamonds. Get over it, seriously. Do you really want to be just like every other whiney prick on the planet?
P.S. If you read their Twitter page, the server is down now due to a bug..but it's STILL down because they're going ahead and doing the Update for tomorrow TODAY instead. That's a good thing...less downtime.
The current hiccup is due to the thousands of people who want to play this new expansion
That is not true at all. There were stability problems going on weeks before the update. The fact that they were happening and yet they still went ahead with a large patch is a major sign that someone in charge is making bad decisions. You don't compound server stability issues by releasing a largely untested major patch that will cause the server to be flooded to capacity and then some. You just don't. Any competent network or IT person will know this, it is very basic common sense.
Releasing the update the way they did was asking for trouble for a system that already had enough trouble that wasn't being addressed, and they knew that when they did it. That is why I don't see this game or company having all that bright of a future. This is basic stuff they're TRIBBLE up. Stuff that any competent manager or IT professional knows better than to do.
Well to the OP that is a question you can only answer for yourself. From experience here in STO albeit very short amount time. I played as F2P for about 2 weeks and really had a great time here. I have been playing MMORPG's for a long time and have played most of them. Here are the things that led me to recently buy the LTS.
1. The CM here on the forums is very active and it's obvious that he does care about the game and understands it, he's quick to answer players questions and tries to help as much as he can. I can say from experience that in a lot of games this is not the case.
2. I find the game to be fantastic, even with the troubles as of late(which doesn't bother me at all) they are trying to fix them and are very quick to respond to the issues. I am not a hard core Trekie, but I just find the game itself to be engaging and feels very alive. Not once have I felt like I was in an empty space.
3. The community here is also very nice, not true in all games, but here it is. PPL have been very helpful to me as a newbie and I yet to see rude, ignorant comments in zone chat, which for me is very refreshing considering the last MMORPG I played for the last year.
4. The character creation is fantastic, the customization of abilities, and ships as well. There is quite a bit content here it seems like they are motivated to make the game better. From what I have seen so far was well worth buying the LTS and can see spending a lot of time here hopefully for years to come. (the last game I felt this way about I stayed with for 8 yrs til it was shut down:(.)
I can go on, but i'm starting to sound like a crazed fanboy, which maybe I am a lil, but so far my experience has been great and do not regret buying the LTS. Again to the OP if you like the game stay and have fun, when you stop having fun it's time to take a break. But if you go out and try the other MMO's out there, lets just say the grass isn't always green'r. This is all just my opinion and i'm sure some will disagree but from my experience, this was the game I was looking for and wish I would have started playing sooner than I did.
Ohh and for the downtime Cryptic I want 1000billion tribbles and several Orion women sent to my ship's cabin:)
STO will last, the game is pretty addictive for a good amount of time, they have a good advertise management, they perfect the f2p and even i don't agree they even can get more greedy then they are now, with more pay2get items with not scaring majority, they have Star Trek story and fame, you as player are in the center of a character advancement so STO will last long time
For now and for a while unfortunately the game will remain still bugged and confusing, don't have any other illusions or expectations ...
What's wrong:
- as in many games which have forums and communities they lack in specialized people who can deal with us, the wrong think is they are using experienced public relations managers instead of trained and specialized ones...
- the middle management and IT i think they are OK, but they lack in high management, the ones which don't understand they can't decide by their limited judge in some IT matters, i am afraid that the big boss have a huge belly and don't let managers to do their work
- i am a techie my self in real life and understand bugs and coding, but this is not the issue, the issue is somewhere else, in the game itself...is way too complex and huge from coding to gameplay itself
I think all issues, bugs, some rage and confusing situations have their origin from these 3 keypoints, all other details like old servers are just details and the game runs nice with these new/old servers until now. Maybe they need to resolve the main issues now and start to reorganize them self before a new mega patch that will fill their pockets.
I supervise 5 fleets or whats left cause of this fail patch, tons of EC and dill, many VA characters so i must stay, but the game play tend to not be so great in very long term and the issues makes the must to become a maybe or later.
PS: maybe a gift or some retribution for the time lost and issues that affects all like in game email is not an inappropriate concept at all
I bought the game when it was still a pay to play. And it was quite anti-climatic.
Couldn't go onto bridges, no shuttles/fighters, had to actually play till a certain level federation side to make a klingon. Oh yeah Klingon was mostly PVP way back when too.
They've done ALOT of changes and I enjoy it.
The servers on the other hand should be more stable especially when there are people that are subscribed or even lifetimed to the game. Now with this past week there was a major expansion so there are going to be ups and downs. But I have been here when trying to join an STF would fail because of rep events.
Also couldn't F2P players get at least one skill respec? Like when you hit 50? I know 5 bucks isn't much and that I could pay for a sub but honestly money is so tight I need it for my real life.
But that's pretty much it. I'm happy where its gone from in its early days till now and hopefully look forward to more in the future.
P.S. If you read their Twitter page, the server is down now due to a bug..but it's STILL down because they're going ahead and doing the Update for tomorrow TODAY instead. That's a good thing...less downtime.
It means more downtime. Since nothing is being fixed or done tonight at prime time the server will crash and burn just as it did all last week.
To me anyone still in favour of this game just needs to justify to themselves the ridiculous amount of money they fleshed out for the LoR packs. .
Untill there are no real fixes and an explanation about the new spamfilter plus a list of words in that filter i for one am not logging in.
The answer is No. Plain and simple. Maybe if they sold it to a real game company with people who knew what they were doing I would say yes, but since that isn't going to happen, my answer stands at no. Maybe I'll try it again in a few weeks, but this isn't the only f2p game around.
EVE Online, eh? If you think Cryptic's servers and games are bad after a major patch, just wait until you encounter how bad CCP's EVE server is after a major patch.
its nothing like cryptic that's for sure but I will go a head and save time this will be one of them to agree to disagree

Yet, you're still here boring us with your whining.
Seriously people..if you don't like the game, get the hell off the website dedicated to it. If you stay around, you're giving the impression that you care about the game and that it's going the right direction. They don't sit around and read your whining so it doesn't do anything. Can you blame them? It doesn't matter what they do..people will TRIBBLE and moan.
Look at ANY forum for ANY game. The same TRIBBLE..it's stupid. Move on..no one cares.
I'm curious whether or not the general consensus is to move on to the next game or stick it out with STO. I'm not going to lie, I've enjoyed the game since I started playing. On the flip side I have put a lot of money into it and time which makes these large amounts of lost time all the more frustrating. Most games have hiccups, the quantity and severity of the hiccups really dictates how tolerable they are. Over the past three weeks we have had three major hiccups that have put the game out of reach for it's players for 5 hours or longer. So, the question is does this latest hiccup finally push you to another game or are you too invested or too big of a fan to throw in the towel? Secondary question if you are through with STO what MMO would you be leaving for?
only been playign sto for a few months , have spent over a hundred pounds easily on zen on keys trying to get a ship from a box , i finally have a ship from the lobi store for all my hard work , and like everyone else , i am really really annoyed at the 'hiccups' frequency , and the lack of warning before some of the shut-downs , losing me mission progress and costing me more time on more than one occasion.
the lack of information given to us the gamers , especially those of us who sub , is , to me , a show of a lack of respect for their paying customer / fan base altogether. i am bordering on leaving sto to play something that is consistant , and where the people are informed.
So far during the downtime i have tried a few other mmo's and by far the best one i have tried all round is AGE OF WUSHU , very well thought out and very 'deep' , but also all open world pvp , so watch your back out there
Why is this thread still going? If you don't like the game than don't play - and stop posting too. Enjoy your free time and extra money.
This thread is still going because people DO like the game and the DO care about it. If you can't understand that then it might be better to just not click on these types of threads.
Happy swallowing whatever is being shoved in your mouth.

PS: maybe a gift or some retribution for the time lost and issues that affects all like in game email is not an inappropriate concept at all
Couldn't go onto bridges, no shuttles/fighters, had to actually play till a certain level federation side to make a klingon.
It means more downtime. Since nothing is being fixed or done tonight at prime time the server will crash and burn just as it did all last week.
To me anyone still in favour of this game just needs to justify to themselves the ridiculous amount of money they fleshed out for the LoR packs. .
Untill there are no real fixes and an explanation about the new spamfilter plus a list of words in that filter i for one am not logging in.

system Lord Baal is dead
Yet, you're still here boring us with your whining.
Seriously people..if you don't like the game, get the hell off the website dedicated to it. If you stay around, you're giving the impression that you care about the game and that it's going the right direction. They don't sit around and read your whining so it doesn't do anything. Can you blame them? It doesn't matter what they do..people will TRIBBLE and moan.
Look at ANY forum for ANY game. The same TRIBBLE..it's stupid. Move on..no one cares.
Your stuff? Can I haz?
thats all I have to say.....
only been playign sto for a few months , have spent over a hundred pounds easily on zen on keys trying to get a ship from a box , i finally have a ship from the lobi store for all my hard work , and like everyone else , i am really really annoyed at the 'hiccups' frequency , and the lack of warning before some of the shut-downs , losing me mission progress and costing me more time on more than one occasion.
the lack of information given to us the gamers , especially those of us who sub , is , to me , a show of a lack of respect for their paying customer / fan base altogether. i am bordering on leaving sto to play something that is consistant , and where the people are informed.
So far during the downtime i have tried a few other mmo's and by far the best one i have tried all round is AGE OF WUSHU , very well thought out and very 'deep' , but also all open world pvp , so watch your back out there
Nope

This thread is still going because people DO like the game and the DO care about it. If you can't understand that then it might be better to just not click on these types of threads.
Happy swallowing whatever is being shoved in your mouth.
