I was talking about Tier V Starbase shipyards where Romulans get access to Fleet versions of their own ships
Technically, Tier V shipyards are only needed for the Fleet Ha'apax and its Refit. The other Fleet ships are available at a shipyard tier equal to the ship's original tier: T'Varo at Tier I, Dhelan at Tier II, Mogai at Tier III, and D'deridex at Tier IV.

Go read my first post, this is exactly what I was trying to say when I was refering to Romulan sci-ships.
Complain complain complain. Not every ship needs to be a DPS monster. If everything were, it would simply add to the tedium. Enjoy some variety. You can do plenty of offense with two tac consoles.
Since they all get battle cloaks and sing. core they have to be balanced towards it.
And I go as far as to say unless you pvp nothing really matters, in the end it's still the appearance of your favorite ship right there.
In my case I got a guramba just to sit in space and spam the transfomer animation. Just like I got the atrox because it's physically the biggest ship in the game.
I never even read what consoles were what or the turn speed and what not, because I don't pvp - I couldn't even tell you where I placed my skillpoints 9 months into playing
Anyway, hardcore pvp'ers might not like it but it's still going to sell.
Devs said it would have firepower comparable to the Galaxy but less maneuverable...why did you think it would be a good ship by ANY account? The Galaxy is a joke in every regard and they're using it as the bar for the D'Deridex. THat should have been your indicator that the D'Deridex would be a crappy ship.
Technically speaking a tactical skill will add more DPS than even 3 more tactical consoles most of the time.
The way tactical consoles add damage is you get +% off the BASE damage of a mk 0 weapon of that type. That base damage added doesn't benefit from weapon power and some things buff them but others don't. It's not as much as a lot of people make it out to be. Bigger factors in weapon damage and DPS are tactical abilities, weapon power, power drain and whether you are a tactical captain (thus enjoying lots of damage boosting captain abilities) or one of the less important captains.
Oh and respawn timers, they increase in length the more you die so doing 2k more dps means sweet FA if you're dead for 2 minutes of a 7 minute game.
They're not nerfing it. They're designing it badly. Nerfing means to lower the already existing power/effectiveness of a thing. The Galaxy has always been a bad ship and the D'Deridex is following the same design as the Galaxy. Seriously, why is this surprising people?
Because Cryptic designs their games to reward high DPS. It's the only way to rack up a high score in most aspects of the game that track performance - the recent Crystalline Entity revival was an attempt by them to smooth some of that out, but the results seem to have been... mixed, at best. Regardless, having high DPS is a huge component of being rewarded in this game. Thus, people want their ships to be able to deal damage.
That was actually a rhetorical question, and your answer is the premise for the solution I typed out that followed it.
What's not true is that you can select an allied ship at T5.
The comment I made was in response to someone who was complaining about the levelling ship. Saying that they feel forced into it, going from the lower tiers which are all nimble escort-style ships and then hitting the Romulan level band that gives out the D'Deridex.
So I was pointing out that they are not forced into that. They can fly a Raptor or a BoP if they ally KDF. Or an escort if they ally Fed. And keep that playstyle for that level band. It goes by quick. And then they can go back to Romulan stuff at end-game.
Pretty lame that they're nerfing such an iconic ship. I would prefer we get 3 tac consoles and 4 engie consoles rather than 2 tac and 5 engie.
How can they be "nerfing" a ship that no one's ever seen stats for before STO?
This thread is no different then 1,000 other similar threads: "X is my favorite ship so it should be as super-duper as I've always dreamed it was while wearing my Trek pajamas with feet!"
Until Cryptic decides that STO isn't Escorts-Online there's never going to be a cruiser configuration that everyone loves. This is especially true of the Big D - as it's even bigger and slower then a Galaxy. 2 Tac consoles or 3 Tac consoles won't make any difference. It's still going to fly like a slow Cruiser - and going to start conflicts under-powered due to the Singularity Core.
The Big D is fine for the role it fills in the game: tanking and secondary damage. It's not an I Win ship just because it looked cool in a dozen Trek episodes scattered over a dozen years.
STO is about my Liberated Borg Federation Captain with his Breen 1st Officer, Jem'Hadar Tactical Officer, Liberated Borg Engineering Officer, Android Ops Officer, Photonic Science Officer, Gorn Science Officer, and Reman Medical Officer jumping into their Jem'Hadar Carrier and flying off to do missions for the new Romulan Empire. But for some players allowing a T5 Connie to be used breaks the canon in the game.

nerfing it because it probably already existed in a better form on their internal test servers. After they saw how amazing it was, they decided: "wow, we better gimp this to hell."
Also, it's different from 1000 different other threads because the d'deridex is for all intents and purpose what we think of when we think of a powerful romulan ship. The scimitar is exceptional because it was built only once and for a single purpose whereas the d'deridex was much more common place the RSE.

Uh huh... I think you've had 11 too many Redbulls tonight.
The general concept is to balance ships against each other. Even the Scimitar is going to need to be balanced for game play rather then being god-like.

It's exactly the same. People are just too caught up in their lust-blindness to see it. I see nothing in this thread I haven't seen in countless Defiant threads, and Intrepid threads, and Galaxy threads.

Except the Defiant is actually a good ship. Intrepid and Galaxy...not so much. In fact, I'm pretty sure the Galaxy sits at the absolute bottom of the barrel in this game. I genuinely challenge you to name a ship that's worse than the Galaxy in the game right now.
rather like it my rom eng is lvl 32 and flying the d'd.
got challenged to a match with a lvl 50 bop. after an hour of in match time i had died 2 times, bop 0.
BUT had almost killed bop 2 times it had between 10 and 12% hull each time when it cloaked, this was with a mix of subcommander(ltcomd) and commander(cpt.) gear i got as rewards from missions.
so no if you play it to its strengths it is very good at pvp

As someone who's played against Romulan NPC ships, I can say with authority that the Mogai is the scariest Romulan ship out there. Ever since the difficulty slider debuted, it was the Mogai that would one shot folks.

I'm talking about star-trek in general, series included. There's a reason why the Cryptic advertisement for LOR includes a hot Romulan republic officer and a D'deridex cruiser.

I'll take my free galaxy with saucer sep over a free Starcruiser every day of the week. You can kick some nice butt with that saucer off.

Many of us are not asking for it to be imbalanced, just more weighted toward tactical stations and consoles, so that would mean taking away from its excess of eng consoles and stations to do this. There is already precedent for versions of the same ship with more tactical boffs/consoles such as the Regent and Fleet Tor'kaht.
The reason you see the same complaints about Galaxies and to a lesser extent the other 2 ships is they were also ships with a lot of screen time thus a lot of fans to disapoint when they make the ship with bad boff and console layout.
Its a really bad start to the Romulan faction if this ship goes live in its current state. Many long time Romulan fans will feel its like its a slap in the face to have the iconic Romulan ship be given so little firepower compared to other comparable ships seen in TNG such as the Vorcha and its Fleet version the Tor'kaht. I'm going to hold off on making a Romulan for now until we see stats for an acceptable D'Deridex, and I encourage others to do the same. Maybe LoR needs to flop until they get it through their heads that they can't do this to iconic ships.

I am guessing that the upcoming Scimitar will be the "big slow cruiser-type ship" heavily weighted toward tactical. Cryptic needs to look at a scale which includes ships we haven't seen in-game yet.
You're looking at the Big D and thinking "pinnacle of Romulan tech" and they're looking at other ships, like the Scimitar, that are more powerful but also need to fit within their playable scale.

True, that would make sense if the scimitar was to be the big and bad cruiser for the rommies. But imagine the turn-rate. It could be worse than the D'deridexe's turn-rate.

That's just how STO was designed. DPS is extremely valuable; there's not much room for support at end game.

It is through repetition that we learn our weakness.
A master with a stone is better than a novice with a sword.
Has damage got out of control?
This is the last thing I will post.
