I was chatting with some fleet mates last night about PvP team builds and an issue came up that seemed worthy of a post. When PvP was comprised of F v K it was possible--and indeed sometimes desirable--for a KDF team to field an all cloaking team. A person could even field 5 battle cloaks, which certainly makes for an interesting experience. Needless to say, "first blood" was easy to achieve for the KDF team, assuming it had effective coordination, etc.
But since Fed always only had a limited number of cloaks (Defiant, Galaxy-X), none of which were battle cloaks, one could always count on permanently "visible" targets during the match.
In the current situation, however, nightmare scenarios such as the following are at least possible:
Team A, comprised of a hybrid KDF/Rom team sits on top of Cracked Planetoid, waiting for their opponents to arrive. Team B arrive on the top of Cracked Planetoid, waiting for their opponents to arrive. After sitting on top of the planetoid for 2-3 minutes, and trading insults through zone chat with the other team, Team A decides to decloak, just to get the match started. Team B sees their opening and makes the first kill.
Question: Will LoL reduce us to playing chicken with cloaks (i.e., who will flinch first)? Perhaps this problem won't hit us at first, but I can imagine conversations like this happening at tournament rules meetings.
dunno sargon, as for two teams with pre-match agreements you answered your own question.
As for the buff that TDG should have gotten when the nebula was introduced.....just look at Gal-R and D'D.....all WAD
as for teams in the public queues when loR goes live ....seriously who cares, cryptic doesn't and those that still queue up will continue to do so, the fun factor has taken so many beatings or boosts (depending on your perspective) that this one will hardly matter
The more people cloak, the more people with anti.cloak stuff will play. You can easily MES yourself in NEBULA, while checking for cloaked ships. Then just FAW/Spread them and force to decloak.
I generally welcome it, because outside few CaH FvK matches, dedicated cloak hunter was not that much useful and you were gimping yourself.

CPB ? limited range for random spam to pray and decloak someone. That skill will be golden for noob romulans trying to battlecloak in front of you, but it won't help you in matches when both sides start cloaked.

Ah good old ramming speed without 50% hps requirement. The memories...plowing through BoPs with my ol'girl and spliting them in halves with her mighty saucer.

And yeah, I already saw this being a problem when they stated that Romulans would be available for both Fed and Klingon side. So after a month or two I can expect FvF will turn into what KvK was back before any of the non cloaking ships got released. :P
You think that your beta test was bad?

Lol. At least they accomplished thier purpose though I was refering to the old VoQ's use in Kerrat as bait when the vessel was really only useful as bait.
With both feds and KDF having carriers now and the numerous pet choices that are availible, what sort of bait and trap builds will arise.

The Nebula bait ? with FBP3 ?

I won't deny the possible proliferation of cloaking from now on, but...
..aren't we jumping the gun a tad? I mean, Romulans still need to get released first. It hasn't hit the meta-game, and will take time before we see it en masse in queues or team builds.
We need to see if it's even worth doing, or if they will end up changing it between now and then. Plus any changes that might happen after they are released as well.
So while it's good to bring this up, we're only speculating right now. If I did have to give a worrying point about Romulan cloaks, I'd have to say that I'm worried about Klingon teams going up against this, who WON'T be able to detect cloak as easily because they simply do not have some of the anti-cloaking tech that the Feds have been given over the years.
Besides, Romulans will just use what everyone else uses anyways: Lockbox ships.
I remain empathetic to the concerns of my community, but do me a favor and lay off the god damn name calling and petty remarks. It will get you nowhere.
I must admit, respect points to Trendy for laying down the law like that.
Seriously though everyone is always upset about the idea of 2 cloak teams going at it.
Back when KvKs indeed popped... and the Ks where likely to be all cloakers. (that hasn't been true in 2 years)... those matches did happen.
Guess what they where sort of fun. They where not the scary nightmare people think. Yes someone would end up baiting likely.... What also happened is Sci cloakers would decloak where they where pretty sure they saw something for a sec... pop a scan and start the battle up.
We all have a handful of matches that stay in our memories. I can think of at least 2 or 3 matches that where pretty much just like that and they are well past 2 years ago. I remember an epic battle we had with some rzr guys vs some qew guys. Some of the most fun I have had in a pvp match in any game ever.
I hope we do get some cloak on cloak going it will be a ton of fun if people embrace it for what it is and go hard with it.
Hmm, I'm not too experienced with space, but I know that defensive creep has gotten out of hand. However, is just one dedicated healer enough to keep himself alive once you have four or five decloaked enemies on him guns blazing?
And if he does survive, will he have any heals left to support his own cloakers who will likely get blown out of the water by a coordinated target switch?

Well unless everybody takes the Star Dagger Approach to PVP "Let just stay cloaked until they warp out" it shoudnt be a problem.

Use CPB as a prevent re-cloak option and selective decloak when you have a good idea where they are.
I haven't had the issue w/people not decloaking in KvK. If anything the issue is people bring cross faction stuff w/o the cloaking making it feel like fvk. People will learn over time when to apply anti-recloaking, how to bait at beginning of matches (easier for Rommy ships than KDF ships), the dangers of cloaking in a crowd, etc.
My main concern is they lessened the -40 power for Rommy ships have for being able to BC w/o a hit on shield/hull stats. That and the potential OPness of a Lotto BC ship that I have a feeling is coming sooner than later.

consider the following as we watch in the twilight zone emergency power to auxiliary bonus to stealth detection and nebulas capable of seing cloaked ships for miles or atleast this is the hope lol
though klinks will have to spam acetone even more to deal with this as the blue suction points to the chewy nugget inside

The idea of a cloak hunter of old is actually making me consider comming back for the nebby. Fun I can have.
i remember i used to have quite the sturdy anti-cloak nebula...

LOL, have you ever tried it in heavy pet fights ? The lag is hillarious. Especially in that solar map.

Yeah, I was thinking about that too.=)
I think not It was a sad sad bait tank.
Haha, that's funny.
Do you think 2 ships today could support each other enough to allow the other 3 members to focus on decloak/alpha?

Well no, game have changed too much, too many teams are overhealed and only require subnukes to brake.
The Nebula bait ? with FBP3 ?
Different gameplay altogether, you bet.
Its gonna be rommy vs rommy premade from now on!

I miss those days. When a Cruiser can say, "F**K YOU MR ESCORT! I HAVE MORE HULL POINTS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"
Many times I've cleaved an Escort with the bow of my mighty Negh'Var or Sovereign. We marked roadkill signs on the side of the ship afterwards, too!
Well unless everybody takes the Star Dagger Approach to PVP "Let just stay cloaked until they warp out" it shoudnt be a problem.

We never did that even back then.
The only teams that we ever did that to where honestly cheating... oh wait I don't publicly talk bout that stuffz. Trolling them was our duty. lol

it'd totally TRIBBLE off my own team, and i was on vent with them!
we had a joke saying the best way to get around the lag caused by it was to close your eyes and count to 5. POOF lag over.
