The FE are the bests missions in STO, and they are available for both side.
The Guardian of Forever arc still trumps most of the content in the FEs. I'd much rather do that mission than mix a drink for a nervous engineer, or scan an asteroid to find a map chunk in it.
KDF have KDF only missions that are really good (alpha, Felh'khri storyline, or whatever is spelled).
Those 8 story missions all came from the SAME update. And they left an entire new villain faction pretty much hanging for years now.
It'd be like introducing a brand new race of Dragons in Everquest and then doing nothing to follow up with them. Ever.
It's true the KDF could have some more missions. However, considering Fed storyline is more about quantity than quality, ask yourself if you want the same uninteresting missions just for the sake to have more of them, or if you want less but better missions.
Every single one of those "boring" missions is deeper and more engaging than Dilithium Asteroid Mining and Epohh tagging.
Well let's put his figures to the test then. He has posted three separate figures for the population size of the KDF.
1- He said it was 12% of the population.
2- He said it was 16% of the population.
3- He said it was 20% of the population.
Which is it?
That is true, they have been rather inconsistent about what the actual size of KDF is. Going off of queques, there seems to be hardly any. But toodle around sector space, and there seems to be KDFers everywhere if you do a headcount.
The Guardian of Forever arc still trumps most of the content in the FEs. I'd much rather do that mission than mix a drink for a nervous engineer, or scan an asteroid to find a map chunk in it.
It's like your that kid at school that goes "LALALALALALALA" while sticking his fingers in his ears when there's something he doesn't wanna hear lol I mean for the love of common sense, the file name is called "CHOOSE FACTION ROMULAN!" What kind of mission would this be a viable graphic for? All of the art work in mission menu's are tiny 60x60'ish graphics. Further more why would they load graphics for a mission on the unsecure website?! lol
I mean a more logical counter argument would have been "maybe this is something deliberate by the team to throw people off their development scent" or even "maybe it's super deep viral marketing." Not "It's a image file for a mission"
or you could just use your brain and think of something logical such " oh wait maybe the dev's just had it there for future use or whatever" just because something is right infront of you and looks like something you want, doesn't mean it is. what is the point of making a new faction when they cant even finish the second faction in the game (btw i am not a kdf hero, i play mostly federation).
if it doesn't come what you going to do then come on the forum and whine about it not being here and how it was misleading?
if you look hard enough for what you want to see chances are you'll look so hard you'll end up seeing and thinking what you REALLY want instead what it actually is and right now its nothing more than an image.
Well let's put his figures to the test then. He has posted three separate figures for the population size of the KDF.
1- He said it was 12% of the population.
2- He said it was 16% of the population.
3- He said it was 20% of the population.
Which is it?
What year did each of those numbers come from?
YES, it does matter if the 12% figure is talking about 2011.... you don't really think the KDF player base is the same size in 2013 as it was in 2011 do you?
Stick dates on those numbers and they'll mean something...
Considering Cryptic's history, I can't blame the poster for skepticism. Until there actually IS a Romulan selection on character creation, I too must remain skeptical.
We've been "fooled" by Cryptic before.
On the other hand, people have datamined things that have been dead on correct before. I recall quite vividly someone 'stumbling' onto a log-in screen on the test server that mentioned silver/gold accounts a couple of months before F2P was announced.
The FE are the bests missions in STO, and they are available for both side. KDF have KDF only missions that are really good (alpha, Felh'khri storyline, or whatever is spelled).
However, and part of the "problem" with the KDF is that all this "content" plays exactly the same for the KDF as it does for a Fed.
Well, there is a one-liner, in the Devidian Arc, in which your BOff notes that killing all the hapless Feds in past-Drozana might be bad for the timeline, so it's heavy-stun time...
Heck, a pet peeve from that same arc I recently ran into - and I'm sure it can be replicated:
KDF Engineer, flying a K'Tinga (D7 class) decked out in ToS livery instead of TMP livery. Pulled into Bepi 113 to do the slingshot back into the past - and of course the "disguise" required a D7 with "25th century" weaponry - which is exactly what said engineer flew into Bepi...
First thing? Slap a holoemitter on it to make a ToS D7 look like...
A ToS D7.
Yo, K'Bob, if you're such an "influential" KDF agent, couldn't you "arrange" to have a D7 on-site, refitted to T3 or T5 levels, outiftted, and ready to go? I bet the yards are still spitting enough out for the under-utilized faction? :P
Things like this, where the KDF gets treated exactly like a Fed, are a lot of the "problem" with KDF players as KDF, their dialog is still Fed, but delivered by a KDF face instead of Fed face...
Detecting big-time "anti-old-school" bias here. NX? Lobi. TOS/TMP Connie? Super-promotion-box. (aka the two hardest ways to get ships) Excelsior & all 3 TNG "big hero" ships? C-Store. Please Equalize...
To rob a line: [quote: Mariemaia Kushrenada] Forum Posting is much like an endless waltz. The three beats of war, peace and revolution continue on forever. However, opinions will change upon the reading of my post.[/quote]
Simple laws of supply and demand. There is not enough demand to bother supplying equal content to every faction. There is enough interest in the Fed story to make that faction worth the time and effort to create content. That's where the demand makes investing in supply worthwhile. And don't confuse the demand side of the supply/demand laws with the emotional demandings put forth here on the forums by the few.
"The needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few, or the one." Feds are the "many". All other faction fans fall into the "few" category, or maybe even that "one" straggler that wants a playable Horta faction.
I want to see options in STO. More options than just the KDF. I want to see an independent, playable Romulan faction be added as an option. I want to see an independent, playable Cardassian faction be added as an option. Heck, I even want to see an independent, playable neutral civilian faction that offers merchants, builders, tinkers, tailors, etc.
Fed fans get it all and have been getting content since release. Fed fans spend real money on the game. KDF fans have been able to play their favorite faction since release. It's time Cryptic offered more options for other faction fans. It's time Cryptic offered Romulan fans the chance to spend some real money on this game like they offered the KDF fans at release and have continued to offer them since then.
I've been waiting over 3 long years for the Green faction to become an option in STO and I'm quite ready to spend some real cash for my entertainment.
YES, it does matter if the 12% figure is talking about 2011.... you don't really think the KDF player base is the same size in 2013 as it was in 2011 do you?
According to his own commentary, the KDF population got smaller as time went on. But his percentages flip flopped around.
You know there's a specific page on the wiki where you can find all of this info. Including dates and exact quotes.
On the other hand, people have datamined things that have been dead on correct before. I recall quite vividly someone 'stumbling' onto a log-in screen on the test server that mentioned silver/gold accounts a couple of months before F2P was announced.
IIRC, the Bajoran Vedek robes, and the LTS Gold uniform also fit this pattern. And I think it was the Vesta, that got added as a Foundry asset before being added to the Z-Store.
So it begins....
There's your proof of the coming Romulan threat. They have penetrated both Federation and Klingon computer systems, completely shutting down both factions. Beware the RSE! A shadow looms indeed!
KDF content is vastly better than Fed content. The episodes are more interesting and less predictable. The ships are way more interesting. First City and the allied factions are more interesting. Fed content is highly replicated and is "flat" so that it can be easily replicated.
I have a hard time believing that PWE will give away a whole faction xpak. What is coming in 2 days will more then likely be a mission sequence leading up to a faction inured xpak.

I doubt that any actual playable content is released Thursday. It will simply be marketing/PR information to drum up more interest in Mays update.

An when everyone is let down that no content came after however long of a teasing, people will be mad. So PWE will do a super great sale in the Z store to quench the QQ.
There's also a "mission" for scanning particle traces..... and "missions" for getting a requisition for a new ship in the shipyard.... so?
So?
Let's review. I said that all those "boring" missions erei1 cited as dull, repetitive, and uninteresting were far deeper and more engaging than Dilithium Asteroid Mining and Epohh tagging.
You stated Dilithium mining wasn't a mission.
It is a mission. A dull, repetitive and uninteresting mission.
I think you lost your train of thought along the way. Because those scanning particle trace missions are also far more dull and repetitive than the "boring" lower level "story" missions being bashed in this thread.

First off, I'd check the assumption that the Romulan Faction will be so complete that it could be considered an entire xpak.
But even if that's so, why not? PWE's entire business model is to give away entire games just for the chance to sell you something in-game.

I keep meaning to grab a screen of the loading message that says Empress Sela's home planet is blah-blah. So she already has a capital planet somewhere, and it wasn't Romulus. So the empire still exists with her throne intact. Romulus was probably just some dump anyway, full of art-deco architecture that was so bad she had to move to get away from it.
These unification hipipies that are going around calling some random ball of dirt "New Romulus" are going to have some 'splaining to do when she comes back from her Iconian holidays
My thoughts exactly.
That face in the stars might even be her's on that Friday screenshot, looking with disapproval over at New Romulus.
If we could only be so lucky...on BOTH counts.
You know I hate to play devils advicate but it was that kinda mentality that lead to the end of swg. People said ohh yeah leave if you dont like the game.. so they did and the player base slowly declined. Yes SOE did some major bad boo boo's and dont even get me going on the whole NGE, but never the less that mentality that "oh w/e let them leave" kills games.
KDF has been in the game since launch, yes it has had improvement but you dont just bring in a new faction without properly fixing before hand the faction that has been here and sat there in the darkness with no fixes, no major, and I stress major improvements to it.
I still highly doubt the rom faction will come in may, but if it does.. the forums will be a new meaning to drama.
And you think the romulan faction is going to be treated any different then the KDF.. then you need to grab some coffee and wake up. If they cant handle 2 factions and only give content "majorly" to the feds, what makes you think the roms will be any different. You guys or shall I say, romulan fans will be treated just like the kdf. Little bits and I stress little, pieces of content will be hurled at it when its convienient.

Also, to play devils advocate for a moment. The only way you could be any more wrong would be if you were talking about Imperial Star Destroyers and Jedi Mind Tricks. The KDF has had 'proper fixing' and it has had 'fixes' 'improvements' and 'major improvements.' Perhaps not enough to satisfy you, but it's the nature of healthy MMO's that they are never finished enough to satisfy everybody and they are worked on near constantly.
But there's a Faction that has really had it as bad as you're pretending the Klingons have it now. That faction, the Romulans, who have actually seen "no fixes" and I stress, no improvements, major or otherwise, since release. So, if after 3 and a half years of waiting, we finally get a Romulan faction, a few Klingon tears on the forum won't bother me one bit. Hell, I'll be too busy leveling my new alt to even check the forums.
I'm hoping if this really is a prelude to a Romulan faction that it's done the way it was hinted at being, a mini-faction where you get to level 20 then choose to side with Fed or KDF, if only to avoid the epic ****storm that would roll in (and rightly so) over a new faction being added before KDF is a proper faction.

Maybe I didn't phrase the point clearly enough.
You seem to be treating everything that shows up in the mission tracker as if was a story mission.
They're not. I cited examples of things that have absolutely no story at all. They have a different function in the game than story missions do. Some are minigames, I don't even know what to call some of them.
The point I am discussing is that this:
Every single one of those "boring" missions is deeper and more engaging than Dilithium Asteroid Mining and Epohh tagging.
was like comparing apples to rocks. Story missions have the story as the main reason to play them(unless they have a shiny reward). Stuff like Dil mining has NO story at all, BY DESIGN. Thus comparing it to story missions is futile.

Yes, and Dailies have so much characterization and depth.

I want to see Cryptic add other factions as options and not flavors or shades of Red and Blue.
I would definitely like to see Cryptic give the rest of us "other faction fans" the chance to independently play our favorite factions for 3 years. They can even offer us some C-Store ships that we can buy and prove to them that by taking a chance on having other factions besides the Feds, we can actually have a good effect on the game and the forums while providing an actual real return on their investment in time and development costs.
That face in the stars might even be her's on that Friday screenshot, looking with disapproval over at New Romulus.
The RSE capital is on Rator III. Since Sela disapearance, and the death of Hakeev, there is a huge power vacuum in the Empire, and several warlords are fighting. According to D'Tan, the street of Rator are a battlefield. Also, the feds destroyed the RSE fleet (I think the name of the mission is preemptive strike, not sure however), destroyed borg technology, took the vault (given to obisek), released Undine inside the RSE, and helped a Reman rebellion.
I'm not sure how the RSE can survive that, and become the empire it was in the past. It's more likely they'll either split in various factions, or New Romulus will become the seat of a new Empire. The return of Sela (likely in season 8) may slow that, as she may retake control with an iron fist, but for how long ?
Every single one of those "boring" missions is deeper and more engaging than Dilithium Asteroid Mining and Epohh tagging.
As far as I know, those missions are not part of any storyline. Just like any dailies. AFAIK, KDF have the same numbers of dailies than feds. I fail to see your point.
The only difference is the png file for the Cardassian one is a fairly blank 8x8 pixel image and the Romulan has a Romulan image.
So does that mean we get a Cardie faction in the future, is it all a red hoax or are they simply future-proofing the Gateway / game for stuff that may or may not become features in the future? Who knows.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't Alpha come after the 2800?
Not exactly. It's more like creating the Alliance and doing nothing with it.
