To get around this you need to disable patching on demand. Switch back to mobile, close the game and open the launcher. On the launcher click setting or options, can't remember exactly, and then disable on demand patching. Then login again, staying on mobile, and it should give you the full patch.

    this is what I ment

Also saw someone say they had the game freeze when they tried to do an area transition and files had to patch, I had the same thing happen about 20min before the servers were due to go down.

The reason I'm letting you know that "there are a ton of players in-game" is to provide more transparency on the issue and to let you know that it does not seem to be affecting everyone.

You may call it "transparency", but when you say that kind of thing as often as you have been lately...
The team is continuing to investigate. There are tons of players in-game, and tons more loading in, so it's not affecting everyone.

    http://sto-forum.perfectworld.com/showthread.php?p=7686251#post7686251
It does work, but for a small percentage of players, they get a redirect loop.

    http://sto-forum.perfectworld.com/showthread.php?p=7683441#post7683441
99.99% of players do not have to, but for some reason, some do...

    http://sto-forum.perfectworld.com/showthread.php?p=7634271#post7634271

...it sounds more like you are just trying to minimize problems with the game. So if that is not what you are trying to do, then please do not continue to make that kind of statement as it gives that impression.

I am curious as to what compensation will be offered by PWE/Cryptic for this downtime. As has been noted by many people, this is not a rare, one-off issue for STO. So, I would like the Developers to tell me what I can expect for this error.

However, having had reason to contact this company before, I am expecting the following:
    • A four-day delay
    • A response that is insultingly inadequate
    • No option to actually speak to a person

Seriously... would having a technical support phone number be that bad?

My Dad and Brother have been having this issue on and off for the best 3-4 months as from what I have read on the forum so have a number of other players.

I won't post my trace because it reads just the same as everyone else's who has this issue, hopefully when this gets fixed it will also resolves the on-going issues which my dad and brother have been facing.

I'm on Verizon DSL in Maryland. Network dumps show multiple requests to establish a TCP connection, and then the update listener ignores the application level session requests. The intermittent server responses rule out large-scale problems with global routing--some of the packets are clearly making it to the server and some of them are coming back, so routing is working. The packets are dying at the cryptic network. Looks like the firewall is falling down, or the network bandwidth

First connection shows 3 connection requests before the patch server acknowledges, then 2 more retransmissions before the client gives up.

Second attempt shows 4 connection requests before an acknowledgement. But the ACK is for something else, and the client rejects it with a reset. Then tries again a couple more times before giving up.

Okay so your friendly tech support AKA other users have given you the only two possible solutions.

Use a Proxy/VPN from another country like Spain for example (somewhere that doesn't have known issues), but make sure it's secure.

    Or

Tether via your 3G network to patch, though if any in-game patching occurs during transition it will plonk you out.

    Have a nice day.

I expect to see most of you back in game after Thursdays patch :o

99.99% of players do not have to, but for some reason, some do -- we're trying to track down why this is, but in the meantime, players affected may need to update manually when we push a new launcher (as we did this afternoon). Thanks for your patience as we work to resolve the issue.

    Cheers,

    Brandon =/\=

99.99%? Oh god that's clearly untrue.

I am in the UK, which I seem to see a lot of people in the UK hit by this issue.

Could be a firewall problem, maybe the update server is falling over, dunno

It's not the update server, or everyone - even those that use mobile networks would have the same issue. My conjecture is: it's an upstream load balancer.
