I name mine after NATO designation for Russian subs esp for KDF ships. (sorta fits actually esp in light of Star Trek 6)
My current main is a Fleet Vorcha going by the name I.K.S Akula.
Unfortunately because of the stupid bug in Season 7 at times, my ship name gets replaced by the name of my Shuttle and NPCs refer to the Akula as IKS Dungbeetle:mad:
We still live!!!!! Hahahahahahahahaa! We live and we will conquer!!!!! Hahahahahaaha!
-Roach, when asked about Klingon extinction!
A character from the movie "Somewhere In Time" and the date the movie premiered in the USA.
Seemed appropriate to me.

U.S.S. Lost Avatar - which didn't really mean anything but sounded decent at the time
U.S.S. Redacted - Cause I figured the ship wouldn't last long. But it did.
U.S.S. Magnus - The name of a character in a book I wrote some years ago.
Fleet Admiral Duane Gundrum, U.S.S. Merrimack
Fleet Admiral Ventaxa Proxmire, U.S.S. Shaka Walls Fell

My primary toon is named after a Civil War confederate general, so I mostly kept the names along those lines. His tac escort retrofit is the Gatling, the Chimera the Merrimac, my fleet tac escort the Robert E. Lee , my Delta the Fort Sumter, and my Captain's Yacht the HL Hunley (named for the first submarine ever used in naval warfare.) One exception is the Jem attack ship, which I named the Ian Gillan, for a reason no one's figured out yet. I meant it to be and "inside joke," but apparently it's too inside. Ian was the lead singer for Deep Purple. Get it?
USS Wahoo (SS-238) was a Gato-class submarine, the first United States Navy ship to be named for the wahoo, a dark blue food fish of Florida and the West Indies.
Added the Esclarent to my line-up, and she's now my flagship. The name comes from a subversion of Arthurian legend, where the Excalibur is actually 2 swords, the Caliburn, and the Esclarent -- the Sword in Stone, the Sword of Peace, and ironically, the sword that Mordred stole and used to mortally wound Arthuria Pendragon.
Considering that I RP as a shining example of a Vice Admiral whose big on diplomacy, and is also a Section 31 agent hiding in plain sight, the name Esclarent embodies my character in his entirety.
(No, I did not mispell Pendragon's name. )
"Last Engage! Magical Girl Origami-san" is in print! Now with three times more rainbows.

No, you didn't.
There is a series that has King Arthur's name as Arthuria (well, technically it's Arturia there, but still...). Of course, they also ran King Arthur through Rule 63, but that's neither here nor there.
My current ship is the USS Tom Cruise, in the past I have flown the USS Kevin Costner, the USS Ben Affleck and the USS Matt Damon.
In that case, I need to start naming ships after action film stars. But I don't think there's enough room to fit U.S.S. Arnold Scwarzenegger on the saucer section.
I named mine the U.S.S. Jamestown. The reason was because back in the 80s, I was a member of the official Start Trek fan club called Starfleet. I was chief of security on there. It was a great group. The name of the ship for our region (in Virginia) was the Jamestown, and ironically, it was a light cruiser, too. i thought it would be a great homage to the good ole days.
My main is the Temporal Science Vessel, USS River Song
Had to be something time related.
Then the three I used to use occasionally:
Deep Space Science Vessel Empoleon
Galaxy Dreadnought Typhlosion (named for my pokebros)
Mirror Assault Cruiser T'Pax, Sounds vulcan, means peace in latin, kind of looks like a tampon.
I alternate between two ships. The Tactical Escort Refit named USS Crimson Sunrise, named after a Glorious Heritage Class ship from the Andromeda universe.
The second is a Assault Cruiser the USS Midian Breach, again named after a Glorious Heritage Class ship from the Andromeda universe.
You have to admit that the GH Class ships have some lovely names, like Fires of Orion, Salient Debate, Million Voices etc.
I still also have a Galaxy Class starship that I don't use anymore. Named that one USS Eric Hartmann, after the WWII Ace of all Aces, Eric Hartmann who score 358 confirmed kills.

I've been playing trek games for a long time. Tesadora is the ship I used in Star Trek Bridge Commander.

either named from places or family names of importance.
My most recent ship which is a Mirror Assault cruiser is named the U.S.S. Franklin
Family name with all of its historical connections.
Before VA, most of my ships were named after sentinel/ guard/ watchtower themes. But after VA, I decided to go with Slavic deities.
It also helps me track older "loot storage" ships and my new ready-to-captain vessels at a glance, with the two different naming schemes
I don't care how long you've been playing. I only care about how you play.
And remember to follow the rules.

Possibly the best Anime ever written with some of the best characters. This is one of several shining moments of that series.
USS Gurren Lagann. If it used torpedos they'd look like drills. As it is I DONT ****ING LOSE!

Thanks for Harajuku. Now let's get a real "Magical Girl" costume!

Three vectors, dancing around an enemy, softening their defences. Then merging to form a solar wing of destruction, almost as genesis...
Merge 1!
Go merge 2.
Go... (U.S.S.) AQUARION!
The rest just fell into place

U.S.S. Echelon (Assault Cruiser)
U.S.S. Onyx (Mirror Assault Cruiser)
U.S.S. Sigint (Shuttle)
I try to use names that have a 'military' feel to them, and something a little different from everyone else.
My current ship is the USS Tom Cruise, in the past I have flown the USS Kevin Costner, the USS Ben Affleck and the USS Matt Damon.
Just wanted a cool name that wasn't overly used.
Perfect name for a Science Vessel
