Should we keep our salvage/prototypes?

momawmomaw Member Posts: 0 Arc User
Given the major shakeups coming in season 7, is it worth keeping chips, salvage and prototypes since apparently these will no longer be used in any meaningful way? Should I start liquidating my savings while I can still get something for it?

Let me just quickly pitch in here:

Last time this question was asked, the Community Rep said: "Yes... Quick... Spend your emblems (the Dil of the day back then) as fast as you can, or you will loose it all"...

Those that did what he said will almost certainly agree with me, that it was a bad idea, as they lost out on THE Bridge Officer, and massive amounts of Dilithium.
Don't look silly... Don't call it the "Z-Store/Zen Store"...
Let me put the rumors to rest: it's definitely still the C-Store (Cryptic Store) It just takes ZEN.

On the plus side, do you think they'll bring those back? <Hopeful>

Problem right now is that there is no one in Cryptic we can trust,we have been mislead/misinformed too many times.

It won't be up tomorrow, but will be at some point during the week. Once it's finalized, it has to get localized in French and German (like all our blogs :)) and then we'll post.

Like Branflakes said, wait for the Blog to see the conversion.

But personally, if you got Tech to turn in to unlock part of the costume, you best do that before S7.

Also, be smart to spend the Prototype Salvage you've been saving on Ground and Space [Borg] weapons while you can. Because they are going to charge is like 10,000+ Dilithium and marks for them, plus the months you will be spending unlocking the Tier 5 Omega Reputation.

Personally, I still think this is a cheap move by the Dev Team to do that to everyone. And they should rethink the system while they can. Because this is highly unpopular with the majority of players.

If you ask me, it'd be smartest to save it all and use it as a boost through the grind.

The exception would be costume pieces. If you're holding on to proto tech of any ground set and don't already have both corresponding items, you're better off buying the items now. It'll save you some cost down the line, something like 36k dil IIRC.

I don't think I'd bother intentionally grinding STFs for loot to feed the system now either, though. But that part I'm sketchy on; I'm waiting until the blog to decide on that for sure.

When you say "next week" Do you mean the Work Week of the 22nd, or the 29th?

I don't know. The Mark cost doesn't seem that high. It seems considerably easier to get marks than dilithium to cover the gear costs.
And since the projects have a pretty long waiting period, it makes sence to get a dilithium headstart instead of a Mark boost.

It could be weeks or months before you can
Earn your way back into the STF store
    Under the new system.

I plan on using my prototype salvage to make
    Sure I have the weapons I ( think ) I will need
    For any build changes

I hear the purple Borg torpedo offices will no
Longer be available as well so I'm going to get
3 for each of my characters.

I may gamble with the rest of my salvage for the
    New currency
    Jellico....Engineer ground.....Da'val Romulan space Sci
Saphire.. Science ground......Ko'el Romulan space Tac
    Leva........Tactical ground.....Koj Romulan space Eng

You might want to keep your edcs and rare borg salvages and techs for some omega marks or dil, at your conveniance. That's your decision but you have time for this, season 7 is far from being ready.

My advice though would be to get some good old STF [borg] gear with your proto borg salvage since one of the purposes of season 7 is to get rid of the current free system to put all these items behind the reputation walls in a brand new dilithium store. Otherwise, the current stf loots and stores would stay in game, wouldn't they?

Every single borg weapon, space or ground, should cost 14k dilithium AFAIK, so you may want to get an alternative weapon proc, in case of a nerf of your current weapon type. We've seen that for phaser and polaron recently. Consequently a secondary weapon set is a good investment. My advice would be an antiproton set since there is no AP weapon loot in game (so the only access are the dilithium store, the fleet store, crafting, and... The STF store), if that's not your current weapon type.

Use all your proto techs for set parts you don't already have, and get every single part of the borg set, since every set part will cost 36k dilithium (confirmed by Borticus). Hurry up to run Assimilation (undine front) to get the borg console if you don't have it yet, no one know if it will stay in the current loot table for this mission, since this console is a part of a new set.

Currently your most valuable ressources are proto techs and salvages since they will allow you to completely ignore the "new" omega fleet store, so make good use of them. The rest is junk and won't make a huge difference. :)

I'm a casual player (I bought the game, played a month, then went back to a certain MMO, came back for F2P and spent much of the last year doing nothing but doffing and dicking around... I mean, exploring deep space :P) so I haven't done much in terms of STFs. It was the announcement about the coming change to rep that I decided to grab the retro set first.

Now, along the way I picked up some XI maco/omega gear, a Q torp and a AP turret without much EC cost. As things stand I'm lacking just the MACO deflector to complete my 'ideal' XI space set. I'm currently grinding Donatra for turrets and already I've got 2 RBS sitting in bank to be turned into another turret. Very soon I'd be kitted out in T4 rep gear and that renders much of the coming gear meaningless to me.

Once I attain full T4, should I continue to grind for tokens?

Just gonna grind infected elite lots of time so I have borg tech to spare when the change happens. I say most folks should just do the same.

So the gist of it is, get it now because it'll only cost more later no matter what?

Thank the nine divines for having a full XII ground set already.

    Pretty much this.

I've been going through my toons and checking whether they got the full Assimilated set, and complete MACO, Omega, KHG sets if possible.

Now I have to make a list of weapons I might need (or want to use) in the near future and get them for my salvage.

EDCs and possibly some remaining techs (quite a few of these, I guess) and salvage will be ready to either wait for their conversion to Omega marks or be sold for dilithium. Depending on the blog post we're all waiting for.
TOIVA, Toi Vaxx, Toia Vix, Toveg, T'vritha, To Vrax: Bring in the Allegiance class.
Toi'Va, Ti'vath, Toivia, Ty'Vris, Tia Vex, Toi'Virth: Add Tier 6 KDF Carrier and Raider.
    Tae'Va, T'Vaya, To'Var, Tevra, T'Vira, To'Vrak: Give us Asylums for Romulans.

Don't make ARC mandatory! Keep it optional only!

I just hope we don't get hosed in the conversion... There are some characters I'd like to start from the start of the new system but then others hoping they have a fair conversion due to I've already gotten 90% of what I saw on tribble for rewards.

I havent been paying attention very well, so I might as well ask, should I just cash these in on my characters now and pick up whatever with them? I have enough on some chars to pick up a full set of each MACO and Omega, so, plus various borg ship weapons. So, should I just use them up before the new system hits?

I can't remember if it was Borticus, tacofangs, or branflakes, but one of the forum frequent team mentioned in another thread that there would be a developer blog about itcomin out soon and that we should "read that before making a decision" I dunno when it's coming though as i'm kind of in the same boat. I'm worried that with how much of a grind this game is, it's not going to be worth the time and effort spent in STF's adding it to the reputation system.

Cash out. "Dilithium is King" will be the name of the game in Season 7, and unless the exchange rate for Omega Marks is something obscenely high (consider that current elite STFs get you 60 marks per match), you should run-not-walk to Commander Roxy and get your payday.

Cash out while you can still get something useful.

I can't imagine the conversion will be anything but laughably bad.
