After oogling through all flippin 40 pages, I can not find this keybind:
Team Mate says: Target is $target
Purpose: He wants the rest of us to shoot at what he is targeting.
Now, there are focus in STO, and there is a way to get the focus as your target.
But I'll be damned if I can find a way to get his target as my target without actually using the mouse cursor and klick on either that player/mob or the Target-of-target frame while having team mate X as target...
This clumsy way of targeting someone elses target is not an option for me, not in space, nor in ground.
Reason: I always use MouseLook to steer, be it my character on ground, or the starship in space. PvP or PvE - I always use MouseLook. For this reason I been looking for a way to aquire Target of Focus as my target - to no avail.
The built in auto-assist is not a good option either because if the friendly I have as target (and auto assisting) get either defeated, scrambled, or he change target himself to use maybe a heal or a buff on someone... Well then the auto assist does not work since I'm suddenly finding myself either with no target or trying to assist on a friendly.
What is the keybind (if there is any at all) to set Focus/team mates target as my target?
EDIT :: Scratch that! I found it I think...
/bind G focustargetselect$$assist
That did the trick... It instantly gets me the target of whomever I have as focus when hitting the G key.
The trayexecbytray command only requires 2 arguments - the tray number and slot number. What is this third number that the game tells me to use?
*** EDIT: I got it! I had to put a plus sign (+) before the command for it to work. Also, I was putting in the wrong number for the tray power. For binding it goes 0 to 9, not 1 to 0.
Very usefull thread. Thank you. Maybe now I can delve into the mysterious world of key binding and get the best out of my Cuiser. Not very computer literate but hopefully I'm understanding your binding formulas.
I'm pretty sure the answer to this is no, but putting it out there in case anyone can help
Is there a way to bind a key to DOff, BOff or space/ground power setups? I don't mean open the window, I mean load a particular setup, such as "I'm going on a mission, remove the Astrometrics DOff from active duty and load the Gravimetrics DOff instead" kind of setup.
I didn't see anything in the command list related to this, but hope someone can tell me that I've overlooked it.
Thanks for any help or suggestions!

I saved the file in Live as space.txt, but when i try to load it ingame it doesnt work. Halp?
go to your chat bar and type /bind_load_file <name of file>.txt.
The command should actual autopopulate as you type it if you want to be absolutely correct.
Otherwise your key bind may have a glitch in it somewhere.

Currently I manually adjust weapon/engine/shield power levels with the fine-tune slider (option 3). Is there a way to keybind it (i.e shields .60 etc) or is the mouse button the only way?
Thank You

Shouldn't this matter at all. I tried keybinding without doing the above steps and still was able to bind whole trays. Is it really that critical and if so what is the impact. I'm sorry but couldnt find a good answer in the entire post. Other guides dont mention it at all.
The reason for changing those is so that you could use those leters if you wanted to for key binds with out problems. I for one have not done it and my binds work just fine. Its all about making things easer for everyone else.
Is there a default keybind file? The one that is there, even before you've made your own bind files? Where is it stored?
It just would help that I could copy to it, when I make my own bindfile, all the ones there that are automatic, but copying and pasting them (then perhaps changing them to what I prefer) I'm guessing I would have to copy it all first to my new bindfile then change it.
There is no default keybind file. If you tried to save a file by using the /bind_save_file ground.txt slash command without customizing any keybinds, the file would be empty.
I've a question: playing around in the interface I right-click-dragged the abilities from the officers slots (in space mode). This didn't remove the abilities from their slots, just the keybindings for the abilities (i.e. alt+1, alt+2).

What about all the ones that are already there, before you make your first bindfile? I am going to have to re-do them all in my custom bind file to make them work in it, so I'd need to know how
Or, will they just work automatically, that it ads those to your new bindfile automatically, you only need to change it if you want them to be different.

How can I get these keybindings back?
Thanks!
There are multiple ways. It depends on if you use custom keybinds or not. If not, you can always reset your keybinds back to default, which will return the alt+1 keybinds. I am not in game at the moment to tell you the exact steps, but I believe there is a reset button from the Options/Keybinds tab on the bottom left. There is also a slash command, /unbind_all.
If you use existing keybinds, you could always recreate them in your bind file:
I know it is late in answering... but just in case you or someone else still has the problem.
If you load a bind file and nothing changes, it more than likely means your syntax was incorrect. You can test this by importing the bind file and then immediately exporting it to another file name. If your [new] command does not show up then the syntax was wrong in the beginning portion of the keybind. If it was in the execution portion, then the keybind usually gets saved, but it will show up as an error when used.
Just as the OP, I use descriptive tags in my bind file so that I can find a section easily. When imported into the game, these tags are just ignored. If I export my bindings, those don't show up. I am thinking that this might be your issue, if you put extra 'stuff' before the named key, the whole line will just be ignored. For example:
bind c "+crouch" will work in a slash command but would not work in a keybind file. But:
c "+crouch" will work for a bind file, but not on a slash command.
I was wondering if it was possible to assign a key the function of loading a specific bindfile something along these lines [F9 "+bind_load_file <locationpath\scienceground.txt>]. Is that even in the realm of possibilities? Then again, it feels like I'm asking too much lol.
That is very possible to do since loading a bindfile is a command. I actually use it to switch my mousewheel in space between camera zoom and throttle control.
Space_Mouse_1.txt Camera Zoom
Wheelplus "AdjustCamDistance -15"
Wheelminus "AdjustCamDistance 15"
Middleclick "bind_load_file Space_Mouse_2.txt $$ Playersay Switched to Mousewheel Throttle."
Middleclick "bind_load_file Space_Mouse_1.txt $$ Playersay Switched to Mousewheel Zoom."
That Playersay command at the end is so I have visual confirmation that the command went through or I can see when I accidentally switched binds without meaning to.
0 1 is the location of TS1, I have moved my torpedoes to slot 0 7. I have tried reversing the slot orders in the bind command, I have tried not leaving spaces on either side of the $$, I have made sure to wait at least a half second, usually 1 second between presses.
I would appreciate if someone will kindly show this fool what he is doing wrong.

I'd like to change the scale of anything related to teammates, esp. buffs and debuff icons.

Speaking of binds whilst I'm posting anyone figure out a bind for the injury window for space and ground?

When I tried to bind a trayexecbytray command it gave me this error message:
According to the keybinding guide here:

i add this in the space_keybind.txt
the following i tryed but did not work for me.
Left Alt "TrayExecByTray 1 0 $$ +TrayExecByTray 2 3"

It may be missing the first "+". As well make sure the "Left Alt" designation is correctly worded.
Those are my only tips that I can think of.

go to your chat bar and type /bind_load_file <name of file>.txt.

Then i guess it has a glitch. any way around it?

/bind Yb throttleadjust .25 (increase throttle)
