Lobi crystals give acess to some of the best items ingame, but they cant be obtained for free. They cant be traded, or sold. If Lobi are to stay bound there needs to be an alternative way to get Lobi. Here are some ideas to start:
Accolades that grant 1-10 lobi (only certain)
Veteran Rewards granting Lobi (say replace the 250 Emblems u stole with 250 lobi)
Random Drops
Buy for EDCs, 20 EDCs for "Small Box of Lobi" Which can grant 1-20 Lobi, 50 EDCs for "Large Box of Lobi" Which can grant 10-50.
Add a chance to get lobi for events
PvP, Add a chance for the winning team to get lobi, i beat that will add to the playerbase who pvps!
A Lobi Event! Grind 750229897082023642836023 Partical traces in 1 second for 0.0001 lobi! (i bet ull go for this one) did i mention to get a Partical trace u need to scan an anomoly for 10 seconds?
Trade in for Lobi, Some older items maybe have a lobi trade in value. or Convert Lockbox ships to lobi, Jem hadar=2000 Lobi, Galor=1000 Dkora=1500 Tholian=2000
trade in Lockboxes for lobi, 100 lockboxes for 1 lobi crystal! by the end of the event u might have 200 Lobi...
Fleet Marks for Lobi
Fleet Marks for Master keys
Fleet marks for Lobi Store items
Unbind every lobi store item
Unbind lobi
Make masterkeys worth 50zen each
Add a chance to get an extra master key for opening a Lockbox (added to the other reward)
Just a small List of ideas for lobi... cause u know, im sick of having to open lockboxes to get Lobi Items. <--- Wants the sword without taking a chance and opening boxes.
Oh, Bigger Strippened for LTS Maybe Golds get 500 LTS gets 700 just because they payed more up front.

100%, totally agree. Just like there is an in-game, albeit lengthy method of earning dilithium, there needs to be a similar way to earn lobi.

NO, that is explotable:
Create new character, collect Lobi Reward, trade in Lobi for Crated/Tradeable goods, account bank them, delete character, repeat at nauseum.

While I'm not against free ways to get Lobi, on the other hand, they are mostly meant as a way to "ensure" buyers of Keys that they can get the item they want, even if the Lockbox never yields the goodies.
Letting you get them for free kind of goes against that ideal just a bit.

Lockboxes=/=lobi. No one is saying anything about lockboxes. This thread is solely about lobi, and the need for an in-game way to earn it, similar to the way dilithium is earned.
People will still buy lockboxes, because they want other things than lobi for the most part. The lobi is at best a secondary reward IMO.
The worst part was we had a way to earn lobi in-game, and the devs took it away. I'm talking about the lobi easter egg hunt. That should be a permanent feature, or at the very least a scheduled event similar to The Vault and Academy events.
there doesnt need to be another way to get lobi - you can get them the same way you get any cstore item.
grind A. dilithium & B. EC (both of these often happen at the same time)
if A sell dilithium, buy zen, buy key, open box, get item & lobi. Sell item for more EC
if b sell ec buy key, open box, get item & lobi. sell item for more ec
repeat until you have what you want. might take a while, and might take a lot of grinding and box opening but it is free. if you are willing to work for it.
The only change that "must" and "should" have been done to Lobi is making them Account Bound.
Lobi are used as a backdoor prize for LockBox openers that spent a lot of Zen trying to win something.
However, many players have Lobi scattered on multiple characters, thus making it still fairly useless.
Also, I see know reason to pull prior items out of the Lobi store either. I am sure there are some D'Kora owners out there that were saving up their Lobi to purchase the set.
You know Cryptic has Jumped the Proverbial Shark when they introduced Tractor Pulling to Star Trek Online!
i hate that they have pulled all the previous stuff out of there i would have left it in a given the Lobi market a larger range.
however i dont see the need to change the system you can get lobi by grinding dilithium and then exchanging that for zen then buying the keys with that its not hard and its free. i think it is worth the work if other people have to pay for it then it should be a massive investment of time and energy to get it for free

yeah, it annoyed me that all the other stuff was pulled out of the lobi store. now that I have a reason to attempt to get Lobi, the one or two items that i wanted are now gone.

Considering Lobi is gotten through lockboxes, I would say Lobi = Lockboxes. They were really just put in there to make it so you could, in theory, get the ACTUAL item from the Lockboxes you wanted without having to buy more and more Lockboxes until you get the item.

They're basically tokens.
They are tokens, but Lobi are distinct from lockboxes. The lockboxes drop nothing that's been placed in the Lobi store. And the Lobi store contains nothing that was in the lockbox; you can't directly use Lobi to get what the lockbox didn't give you.
The purpose of Lobi is:
1. To offset dissatisfaction from a lockbox that dropped a less valuable prize, by giving the customer a way to get something else.
2. To reward customers that open a lot of lockboxes, so they have a chance to get something else they want even if they don't get a major prize.
3. Ultimately, to drive more sales of master keys by putting out more items that the customer might want.
There was never any intention of making it reasonable for a customer to get every item they wanted from the Lobi store. The idea is that a customer might get one or two of them, sort of like a consolation prize. It's not Cryptic's fault people believe this should be like Wal-Mart where you can walk out with everything on your shopping list.
The only way to "win" the Lobi game is patience. Only open as many lockboxes, doff packs, bundles, etc. as you can reasonably afford, no more than a few at a time. Over time, Cryptic will cycle through the items in the Lobi store and the one or two things the customer really wanted to get will be available again. Only then, the customer will have gradually saved up enough Lobi to get it without breaking the bank.
I will say that they should be account-bound and I would accept whatever Cryptic needed to do to close exploits related to creating and deleting characters on a single account.

I agree with the op, nothing that is an end game reward should cost real money, and using the dilithuim exchange as the in game solution is cop out. The dilithium exchange is a bad joke to funnel more greed into the Star Trek universe, along with all the currencies we seem to always be trying to get rid of that some moron replaces with a another one that is greed based.
I agree with the op, nothing that is an end game reward should cost real money, and using the dilithuim exchange as the in game solution is cop out.
The problem is, when a sizable chunk of the player base has level-capped characters, who else is Cryptic going to tap for the money to keep the game going?
Just because I've got a level 50 character, I shouldn't have to pay for the shinys?
The Dilithium exchange is a kind of compromise. It gives the have-nots something to trade to get the cash currency (Zen) from the haves. Nobody's locked out of getting C-Store gear... or Master Keys... as long as there's a reason to trade.
There's also a fair amount of endgame gear that is available outside of the C-Store and the lockboxes. Some of the lockbox stuff finds its way into the Exchange, and that doesn't cost any real money at all. Sure, it's a grind. If it was easy, everybody would get it the lazy way. But it is deliberately not easy.
I don't think it should be unreasonable or nigh-unobtainable. Sometimes the grind in this game is ridiculous. But they can't just hand it all out for free, either.

Simple solution: Have the Lobi vendor buy unopened lockboxes (in stacks, if needed), for 1 Lobi.
UNOPENED.
As in, don't make me buy a key. Just let me trade in unopened stacks via a DOff mission or something that crafty Ferengi would give out. Make a short stack of boxes a required component, then feed me Lobi as a reward. 1:1, 10:1, I don't care how the boxes:lobi ratio needs to work out, just make them more than clutter and annoyance!

The gift wrapped box is account bound. It costs 10 Lobi. It contains 10 Lobi.
Since the "free" Lobi is 2 per character, you need to get your hands on 8 more Lobi to do a transfer. And, whoops, if you get 10, you can't transfer the free ones.
As long as there is never a source of 10 free Lobi all at once, anyone doing a transfer made a lockbox purchase.

Sign me up for the "Account Bound" version of Lobi.
Me too, but a dev said in an interview that people would constantly create and delete a character just to repeat the initial lobi mission that gives you 2 lobis... I'd vote to delete that mission but...
It's annoying that the "consolation prize" Lobi Crystals, as they put it in the dev blog, are actually more desirable for many of us than the actual prizes in boxes. I wanted that freaking 180 degree missile launcher, dagnabit! I was stocking up boxes and everything...
I wouldnt be upset if lobi was just Some fun items to play with, Fireworks, an energywhip with no real use, Pets, Costumes, etc.
However, Lobi Store atm contains the most powerful items ingame! The Tholian Carrier in the Lobi Store is better then the Orb Weaver in the Lockbox! OMG the Tachyon Mines, Launchs 5 mines, speced in pvp, will obliterate ur shields for 10 seconds period. Torpedos that can be fired like a beam array. The Lobi store is not Fun Cosmetic Items, its Items that dwarf every other item ingame. There is no free item that can compeate with the Tachyon mines. There is no free ship (or c-store ship) that can compeate with the tholian carrier.
The point being, if your gonna give the most powerful items ingame or real money only. Its not fair to the playerbase who doesnt ahve $400 to shell out for lobi. ATM, if i wanted to Get a Carrier, and then some Lobi gear, it would take 3 months of Dil grinding, or $200-$400, The time i grind the Dilith to get the Lobi, the lobi store would change :O And dilithium is needed for starbases, and C-Store. Ok so... 10% of my Dil will go to my starbase, thats gonna speed up grinding. So at 8500 a day... Yea this is gonna take a while.
Again, they can remove the Ultimate P2W items from Lobi Store, or they can find ways to let lobi avalible ingame. Do not give SOME players Items that make them Overpowered beyond Anyone else in the game. I have a Jem hadar ship with Tachyon Mines, Trust me, its not a fight ur gonna win unless you have something equal. (yes i got lobi so this is not a personal opnion)
I completely agree but cryptic won't listen they're going to make it as hard as possible to get wat we want I mean to a tholian lockbox only gives 4 crystals and to get a recluse my goal it takes 800 that'll take like 50$ of master keys why does cryptic care what in game items we get there still making money of us let us have what we want a lot pay monthly like me should we get a stipend lobe to I mean I don't. Have to give you my money it's free to play now

Except there was one. All we're asking is that the devs put it back in some form. Not like we're reinventing the wheel.
What ever. Deal with it, Lobi for money or maybe PvP for lobi?
Can you deal with that? It's in game, makes you earn it. Doesn't seem as entitled to it as most posts.
