Proc = Short for Procedure, used to describe a trait or bonus on an active piece of equipment.
Pug = Pick-up-Group, which is a team that is assembled of random team mate usually through a queue. May also be used as a derogatory term used on a perceived weaker member of a team.
Respec = Short for Respecification, AKA Retraining. Process of "redoing" your skills, and re-assigning skill points
RMMRL = Cure space stratagy refering to kill order. (right probes, middle probes, middle cube, right cube, left everything)
RP = 1) Role playing, 2) may refer to the ability "Grant Marauding Force" (Rank 3 Marauding ability similar to Diplomatic immunity) origianlly known as Raiding Party
RPG = Role Playing Game. Long history of gaming, includes titles such as Dungeons and Dragons, and Final Fantasy.
i would define Aggro as the amount of animosity a mob shows to you - for example if you do more damage to a borg cube than other players you will draw it's fire or "gain aggro". some skills seem to be better at "pulling aggro" than others. this is even more true in MMOs where they have tank, healer, dps classes where generally the tank has skills aimed to pull and hold aggro allowing the other classes to kill the mob. in some mmos there are mobs which do not aggro at all until you attack them going all the way through to mobs that jump you as soon as you glance in their direction.
A lot of those terms come from mmos in general so they are thrown around alot.
Pugging is joining a public group of people to play. Like in an stf when you enter the que to play, the game puts other people on your team to play with.
Agro is basically the enemies attention. If you walk into a room of people and the guys by the door attack you then you have their agro.
Proc is the extra ability your weapons have innate. For instance phasers have the proc that they have a chance to disable a system on the enemies ship. These are listed in game on the weapon.
DPS stands for damage per second. Its a common way people use to put a number on how much damage they can do over time in a fight.
Tanking doesn't seem to happen that much in sto. At least I haven't noticed it very much. This is where one guy stands out in front and gets all the baddies attention (agro) so that they target him with attacks instead of the rest of the team.
I've always thought of aggro in it's verb sense. In that case it's mostly a binary state of an enemy NPC. They are either Aggro'd, or they're not. If they've been Aggro'd,, they see you, and they're either coming at you, or shooting at you. If not, they're flying in their little patrol wanders.
This is usually also connected to a given range, example: staying just outside of aggro range for a group of very tough enemy NPC ships, while your shields and hull damage recover before going in full speed with guns blazing.

Aggro=Aggravation, you annoy an enemy enough that it breaks off of everything else, and focuses on you.
Sollaf: Join date Sep 2009, Lifer. Disgruntled with the JHSS, my Bug feels less shiny now.
It's sort of an abbreviation of Aggravation/Aggravated.
For example "Have to log, guys, drawing GF aggro." :P
In that sense, the phrase "you noob, you keep getting aggro" would mean "you inexperienced player, you wandered into the hot-zone where the enemy mobs can see you, and now we HAVE to fight them"
In many cases, tactics in STFs and such, require that groups of players travel a fair distance to where the current fight is, and sometimes a straight-line back to the fight travels near enough to several lower level NPC groups that have respawned. In this situation, the inexperienced player flies right through the thickest patch, and ends up aggroing 2-3 groups at once, while the experienced player might fly straight up and over all of the enemy groups.
So this taunt about "noobs getting aggro" that was mentioned in another thread, may in fact refer to a lack of awareness about the tactic of avoiding said aggro zones.
Ugh, we had links to threads like this in the old forum, and they were very useful. Too bad we couldn't get them consolidated into one single thread, though. Oh well, looks like we start over. No biggie. Possibly a blessing in disguise.
DI = Diplomatic Immunity -- someone asking for DI in zone isn't begging for non-transferrable money...

Thanks for putting that link in, since the thread was never completed. Hopefully, we can track down the rest of them in order to consolidate them into a sticky.

There are still a ton out there, so please, everyone contribute.
Mods, I hope we can get this into some form of a sticky.

Is Role Playing really that dead that RP can be used for other terms without confusion?
Also Tank or Tanking is just being tough to kill. Its a role that you take in combat. In addition to being tough to kill (good shields, high hull/health, good survival skills), you go out of your way to AGGRO all of the NPCs. You want the bad guys to shoot at your rather than your team make. So being a Tank also means having some form of increasing your Aggro. In STO terms, that means increasing your Threat level. You get in close, do as much damage as possible, and have a skill/ability to increase your Threat level. The Captain skill Threat Control does exactly that.
Is Role Playing really that dead that RP can be used for other terms without confusion?
You do have a valid point. I will make sure to add your notation to it. Unfortunately slang like regular English reuses terms and is up to the person to try to figure out based on context of the conversation.
One example of this is the term BoP. It can mean Bind on pickup, Bird of prey (the one that you fly) or Bird of prey combat pet of the Vo'quv.
While role playing is a valid term for rp. The one most people will need to learn is raiding party since in game the term raiding party is referring to the "Grant Marauding Force" ability under Marauding Rank 3. Raiding party is the older term that was updated in march. Please see patch notes for details.
Just to note, the terms the op asked about aren't specific to STO, those are general MMO terms. If you play just about any other MMO, you'll see those same terms being used.
Unless you ask about stuff like for example ATPO or RSP, which are STO specific.

Yes, it's true that the OP's examples weren't STO specific, but he/she did ask for STO terms. Therefore, we're trying to compile an all-in-one list w/in this thread. Keep up the contributions, all. Thanks.

I know, I was just pointing out that since these aren't STO specific terms, the answers being provided are useful even outside of STO itself, and that's a good thing.
So unless a term is obviously STO specific, people should feel free to apply the answers given here in other MMO games they might play later and hopefully we won't get too many threads like the one where the one guy thought only Tactical officers could do 'alpha strikes' because only they have Attack Pattern Alpha... Again, it's a term used in many games (and I think alpha strike specifically originated in Mech Warrior.)
I know I'm not worried if it is a sto term or an mmo term. I'm not even worried if we miss a term or too. They can be added if need be. I'm more concerned that there is enough info that if some one can figure out what is going on based on context. If they want to learn more they can click on one of the links that were added. I will keep an eye out and if it seems relevant then I will add it.
LRC/LRM = Left, Right, Center/Middle. Kill order for the final room in Infected Ground.
Kill all Tactical Drones in the left near corner, right near corner and the middle

The 2 remaining team members will wait until the jumpers are on the second
generator and then start killing the remaining Tactical Drones, starting from the
far left corner.
MRRML = Middle probes, right probes, right cube, middle cube and all left. Alternate tactic for CSE.
Becky = Rebecca Simmons, the final boss in Infected Ground.
Pulsewave/Hug = Tactic for Cure Ground Boss fight, where team get as close as possible and shoots with pulsewave guns until Armek or the team is dead.
