Did the account merges take anyone else by surprise?

As the title reads, did this forced merging accounts take anyone else by surprise?

I don't mean as in, "didn't see it coming", as PWE has owned Cryptic for a while now, and we had to have known it was inevitable eventually.

I mean as in, "Now? Like right NOW?"

I've been busy today (well, yesterday as of this posting), and the forums have been down for "maintenance" every time I've checked, so this came as a rather large surprise for me, as I don't recall even hearing anything about this from the devs on Twitter (although now that I think about it, Branflakes might be the only one I'm not following yet...), and of course, no Twitter updates from the @STO_devtrack account because it was attached to the old forum which was down.

It just seems that something as big as this probably should've had some advanced warning. Like "Hey in the next three days, we're going to be switching forums over to PWE and you're going to need to link your accounts if you haven't done so already, so be prepared." Instead of nothing but "SURPRISE!" It just feels kinda like you came home college early and found out the hard way that your parents rented out your room while you were away.

Kinda, but then Cryptic is just another arm of PWE. And the union is not yet complete. If anything, something of this nature would be expected as the assimilation runs its course.

Right. That's what I said in the second line of my post. It's not a surprise that it happened at all, but a surprise that it happened with no advanced warning it was happening NOW.

It took me by surprise. All day I thought the STO website was down for maintenance all day. Didn't know it was being moved until it was brought up in-game.

Cryptic nor Branflakes didn't give anykind of warning and something like this, we should've gotten at least a week's notice.

Again, yes it did take me somewhat by surprise. And I do regret merging my accounts. I would like to avoid touching zen even with a fifty foot pole. I don't feel that the overall outcome is going to be all that great. Though what surprise there was had been blunted by my personal expectations on how this gig is now operated. So while it was somewhat of a surprise, the fact that this didn't exactly come completely out of nowhere made it much less of a surprise.

The merge itself was not a surprise to me, of course. The sudden rush.. Maybe.

But the real surprise was how badly it was done. People can't use your old username because it's still blocked (probably by themselves). Losing the entire forum and post history is a big blow as well.

Q went a bit overboard snapping his fingers.

... took me by surprise. When the bugs are fixed it will be forgotten about in a month or so.

unfortunately it seems the pwe forum team don't get a lot of practice or get shuffled around a lot, as each game implementation of the standard pwe forums repeats the same errors from the last time. as McC above me says - give it a month or so and they will fix the most glaring problems but don't expect the same functionality as STO forums had.

The end product did not astonish me. My expectations have been through the floor lately, where they are likely going to be staying for the time being.

I knew there would be some changes because of the unscheduled extended maintenance, but I must admit I didn't think about further PWE integration.

I'm beggining to think PWE isn't the best thing that happened to STO...

    I am not happy!

    > Came to the site to log in,
    > Used Cryptic creds,
    > Was asked if I had a PWE account I chose No,
    > Was taken back to the homepage/registration page with some details already filled in,
    > Filled in the blanks and hit register,
    > Was then shown page congratulating me on linking accounts

It DID NOT state the PWE account I was about to create would be auto-linked!

The page and process gave the impression that I was being asked to create a separate PWE account, which I would be able to manually choose to link at a later time!

Can linked Cryptic-PWE accounts be Un-Linked? If so how do I go about doing this?

To top it off the forums are completely f****d! :(
