Well, just a thought; if they dont make them account wide they should at last reprise them. Sorry, 400 for to bo/ship slots per account is simply insane.
How about lets say 100 points for one ship/BO slot at one Character? Or lets say 75. I mean if I get a new BO I want to use and my BOs are full and I dont want to release one... and look at the 400 I say "no way", and one of the old bos is gone fast.
If i'd look at the same situation at the number "75", I'd say.... "why not", and probably I would have already bought several ship and BO slot, for much more then 400 points.
At current count, a good 70% of players want an account-wide option.
As everyone's going to be earning a Reman Bridge Officer on their mains and alts this weekend, perhaps it's time to think about giving players this option.

Definitely! I refuse to purchase anything that isn't account wide.
Well, yes you can. But the topic is about paying for the convenience of not having to, across multiple characters instead of one.
More options are good for everyone.
I am not disagreeing that it would be a nice option to have. However, the problem here is that the cost would need to be pro-rated to however many characters a person has. A person with only 2 characters is using up a lot less database room (which is what you are paying for) than a person who has 10 characters.

Costume slots are account wide and they have one flat fee for this. There's no excuse why they can't do this for ship and bridge officer slots at the same cost. If a person is paying for extra character slots, then they've paid for the extra space that those characters use and everything else that coincides.

Well, that is not necessarily true. It depends on a number of different factors. A bit column in a database will take up a lot less space than a text column would due to what gets stored in it. I would bet that BOFFs and ships take up a lot more space than a costume does and that is why these are priced the way they are.
These particular C-Store items all have a certain unit cost. It is a losing proposition to charge the same price for everything.
For example;
Suppose you fabricate a widget that you need to sell for $5 per widget to cover your costs and make some profit. So your pricing is 1 widget = $5.
Now, would you sell 5 widgets for $5 too? What about 10 for $5? Or 20? You would be losing money if you did.

Sometimes you have to sell things at a loss in order to make a profit in the long run. Sony and Microsoft for example can sell their console hardware at a loss in order to make up the difference on games, downloadable contant, ect. I'm sure there are many similar scenarios through out many different companies that sell various genres of video games for any platform. Cryptic could easily subsidize the bridge officer and ship slots through other forms of content.

Enormous difference between Sony, Microsoft and Cryptic/Atari. In the case of Sony/Microsoft, they can do that because they know you need their console to play their games. PS3 and XBox games will not play on a Wii Inkjet printers are cheap because they know you will pay more in the long run for replacement ink. The difference with those being you cannot use one without the other.
In the case of STO, you have the (free) option of deleting a BOFF to open up space for new ones or dismissing ships to get allow space for newer ships. You can play the game and you can update your character without needing anything else.
It is not in Cryptic's best interest to sell these extra slots at a loss.

With Atari pulling their strings, I'm sure it wouldn't be an issue. There isn't even a conformation that selling these slots account wide would even be at a loss. Unfortunately, no one from Cryptic has stepped up to offer up a reason why these slots weren't made account wide or even to say they would offer up another option for those that wanted an account wide option. I highly doubt doubt selling the bridge officer and ship slots at the current per toon prices would be at a loss either.
With Atari pulling their strings, I'm sure it wouldn't be an issue.
Given their recent financials, I highly doubt Atari will be looking to sell anything at a loss to them.
Again, your analogy is flawed and there is no reason for Crypic/Atari to sell anything for a loss. The game works just fine without the extra BOFF or ship slots. You do not need the extra slots to play.
I have no doubt Cryptic would add an account wide option for the BOFF or ship slots into the C-Store, but I will guarantee it will not be for the same price 2 as it is for 1. Just look at the additional character slots; 500 Atari Tokens for 2 character slots, 850 Atari Tokens for 4 character slots.
I'd like to see this myself. I been wanting to have it, but I am not willing to buy it per character. It should be account wide, not per character.
For people whom want it per character, leave it as is, but add another option for it to be account wide and probably a little more points.
I know for some people, 2 slots is just enough, but maybe have another option of 4 like they do with the character slots.
In addition they could create a bundle pack for Bridge Officer slots and ship slots.
I will not be buying the slots until they increase it to account wide. There are reasons why people like to have these extra stuff like bridge officers or ship slots. Different Officers have different roles and the same goes to ships. Yes I know you can discharge them, but some people may not want to do that. There may be sentimental value to that or other reasons.
It is not in Cryptic's best interest to sell these extra slots at a loss.
And now please, share your (obviously just in your opinion) great wisdom with us explain me and the rest here why a resonable prizing is "selling at a loss".
Since 2 character slots wich include 10 bridge officer slots each and ?8? shipslots almost cost the same as 2 ship OR bo-slots for 1 char it is obvious that IT ISNT selling at a loss if they were account wide or lower priced.
2 Character Slots for 1 Captain at 400 Cryptic Points each is vastly overpriced considering we're playing a pay-to-play game. I could get a shiny new ship, or a couple boffs for 3 of my captains with the same points. I don't think anyone feels that is a fair equation. Then again, I'd like to see the improvement of my bridge officers to be a little more in depth. Why can't my Common bridge officer ever become 'purple' through years of service with a good captain and crew?
I'm hoping the new duty system will fix some of the problems with that system.
My biggest complaint is just the pricing on some of those services. Some are just fine. The Bridge Officer is just TRIBBLE. I grudgingly purchased 2 slots the other day for my science officer, just so I had more options for my ship's abilities. This is a little overpriced considering how many characters I have though, so they won't be seeing me do this very often. I'm not really sure how this level of pricing will be a big money maker for them. I imagine most people will only grudgingly get it on an occassional character.
I noticed other thoughts were made regarding inventory management... something I hate in all these types of games. At the very least I'd like to see each ship have its own storage for each variety of equipment:
Food----> Mess Hall
Weapons ----> Armory
Data Samples ----> Ship's Computer
Hypoes, Regenerators, and other Medical Supplies
> Medical Bay
Heavy and Massive Items
> Cargo Bays
I don't think these distinctions should require a cash cost. They should just be that way... and it would give us a damn good reason to walk in our ship. We'd have our standard personal inventory and a much larger Ship-board one that we'd have to climb down into to really gain full use of.
What irritates me most about most MMO's is that I have to spend so much damnable time hanging out in Spacedock/City When what I really come to the game to do is Shoot stuff and Explore. I don't mind the exchange dropoff... Its just too disproportionate on any game of this variety. Perhaps the MMORPG thing isn't fully my thing, but I don't think that's it. I for one would like to see my ship able to actually store a believable amount of junk before I have to shuffle it off. I especially don't want to have to reshuffle gear every 3-5 missions. There's nothing epic about that, and certainly doesn't feel like I'm taking a Trek. More like a Star Sortie.
Don't misunderstand, I love the game, but Inventory Management has always been a sore spot for me in MMO's. I came to this game, hoping initially that I'd have a Starship full of cargo bays to dump things into.
I will not be buying the slots until they increase it to account wide. There are reasons why people like to have these extra stuff like bridge officers or ship slots. Aye... 1 or 2 pair of BO Slots are on my Shopping list, in the moment they are accountwide.
(Btw i miss some free BO slots from my last promotions)
as a lifer and some one how's an avid C-Store shopper. I'd love for them to make ship, and BOff slots account wide. leaving retraining and renaming to be per toon options.
I've currently got 4 Fed ( 2-Tac, 1-Sci and 1-Engr) and 1 Tac KDF, but I've also got nine more slots open (plan on having 1 of each career path per faction) and it'll save me a lot more down the road I'd still use in the C-Store but for something more useful than having to buy BOff and ship slots.
I'm thankful for the costume slots being account wide cause Gozer-knows I'm a uniform junkie.
And now please, share your (obviously just in your opinion) great wisdom with us explain me and the rest here why a resonable prizing is "selling at a loss".
Totally missed the point of the original conversation. Go back and re-read the whole thing.
Tumerboy: Just out of curiosity, how much would you guys sell account wide unlocks for?
Player X has 3 characters.
Player Y has 18 characters.
If we sell account wide unlocks for $Z, Player X gets a crappy deal, and Player Y is going out to dinner on his savings.
So what's the solution that works for both? How much is the right amount to ask for an account wide unlock, that is fair to both player X and Player Y?
There's recently been a big stink about character-only purchases in Champions. This post by Tumerboy, along with analysis from Massively, would indicate the matter is open to debate.
So, what would be a fair price for account-wide unlocks over here?

I don't know how CO works, but I'd think that the player who has more unlocked characters paid for those in some way, right? So Player Y has already paid for that "savings". If Player X wants more value for his Costume Slot purchase he can buy more characters.
Id buy the slots if they were account wide myself.
I really do think the 400cp for two is way over priced. Im assuming the price was established less on how much space it take but more on what people are willing to pay. If it was really the cost of storage then the most expensive storage item by a rather large margin should be the toon slots. since every one you level is that toon plus its ships and costume and bos. yet its about the price of 4 bos. Id think based on a storage price the cheapest thing would be the ship slots since they offer the least amount of customization and there for would take the least amount of space up.
Whats ****ing people off with co wasnt that the price change but the fact that they would no longer be account wide like they used to be. As for question asked about what it would be worth between one guy having 10 toons and another having 1. It didn't matter to them before the f2p setup started. I remember a podcast that pos did back in the summer I think were he talked about a guy that had like 65 costume slots and manage to break the interface because it wasn't capable of handling that many. in the pod cast he sounded rather happy about it and joked about how the customer had basically covered the man hour cost of the program to fix the interface problem with his purchases.
I know that might not work out the same cost wise for player that are silver and this maybe why it was changed. Plus the stipend cp point kinda screws up how much money you make off sub players if the item they keep buying dont exceed allotted funds. Still they should find a way to bring back the account wide costume slots for gold at least since that 15 bucks a month used to cover the operating cost of a butt load of costume slots about 4 months ago no problem.

Well that is actually kind of an issue, but, beside the fact that it cant be a THAT BIG issue since the identical priced costume slots were made account wide, thats the main reason why I suggestet better prices for BO and shipslots.
Some progress made on this issue, as per the latest Ask Cryptic:
As far as making ship and costume slots available for in game currency, we are considering finding a way we could offer them for in game currency, or in the case of ship slots, have the ships come with slots as part of the purchase price.
Would including a bonus ship slot with a C-Store purchase be an acceptable compromise? The ships would be account-wide (pending the usual surprise breakages), so by rights the slots would be account-wide too.
And should this include a bonus BOff slot for Borgarella?
More updates from the other game (my emphasis added):
Rhyatt: What is Cryptic's response to the current outrage over Costume Slot pricing?
A: There is a lot of feedback on this topic and admittedly little dev response. It is clear that the price change for costume slots when F2P went live has been a hot topic. We have read through a lot of your feedback and acknowledge that there are a number of players that are not happy with the change. There are also a high number of players that didnt mind the change as shown by the sales of the single character costume slots. Some of the best feedback we received was that the single character costume slot was priced too high and made more sense as an impulse by. We agree and are reducing the price of the single per character costume slot to 140CP. We are also bringing back the account costume slot item. The new Account Costume Slots service will unlock 2 costume slots for every character on your account. The Price will be 450 CP and it will be live soon.

Seconded.
For real world money, I want account wide features.

Totalling 13,000 ATs, (Fed 6,200. KDF 6,800) which comes to $162.50.
It's safe to assume a lot of profit is being made on account-wide C-Store ship sales, otherwise there wouldn't be so many released that way.
Could this profit be used to offset account-wide ship slots? This'll give us more options to use what we've already paid for.

Does the price cut change your perspective on character-only purchases?
The Champions team are letting reason win out over greed, and will provide a cheap single-character option in addition to account-wide slots.
Everyone wins.
