Running 3.3 and I have no trouble saving excel files, unless you refer to this file being read only in which case just use save-as to make your own personalised copy.

I'm not sure what you mean about this... The last time I tried OO (granted it was version 3.1.1) it worked fine for the PowerCalc. Can you be more specific in describing the problem you're having?

The version (openoffice) I downloaded only allowed one to view the Calculator, not input data into it.
No biggie, as I may be able to get a copy of excel from work. (if we have a free registerable copy)

Has the calculator been updated to reflect changes that seem to have occured?

The reason I ask is that there appears to be, dare I say it, a nerf. I am an engineeer with the effcient trait, have the efficient engine, have two effcient BOs, etc. I would then mnimize both Aux and Eng (25 each) and make Weapons and Shield at 75 each. I used to get 105 or so on both my shield and weapons and around 45 or so on both Aux and Engine.

Now I only get 96 on Weapons and Shield so what happened???

The Efficient Engine got Nerfed, big time. I remember seeing notes on Tribble about "upcoming changes", but I must have missed anything in the release notes for Holodeck.

The Efficient Engine no longer gives a direct +5 to Weapon, Shield, and Aux powers. Now it follows some kind of curve similar to the efficiency skills. I haven't had the chance to do much testing/figure out a formula, but from what little I've seen, it now it looks like if your Power is set to above 75 you get no bonus, if at 50 you get +1, if at 25 you get +2.

But again, I haven't tested this extensively, and the Calc has not yet been updated.

    PatricianVetinari,

I think that has to be it. I remember my numbers being above 100 (thought it was 105 or 6) so with engine doing nothing above 75 that makes sense.

I checked the Release Notes on both Tribble and Holodeck, and nothing was mentioned about the Efficient Impulse Engines "coming soon" changes going live. None-the-less they are here. More's the pity. It appears now the engine that once gave +5 Power to each Weapons, Shield, and Auxiliary now gives a variable amount based on a formula similar to the one used with the Efficiency skills.

The item description says it gives +3.8 Power Setting. This is misleading. Based on that display, my observations, and some basic testing, I believe the formula to be: Power Bonus = 0.038 * Max(75-Power Level,0). This is still open to investigation/confirmation, so please feel free to comment if you find different results.

Also, I haven't actually used the new Breen Engines, so I'm taking their stats from the STOWiki Page. Let me know if there are any problems.

Otherwise, here are the complete release notes for the new version:

    Version 4.3.0 Updates include:
    - Added Light Science Vessel (Oberth) (+5 Aux Power)
    - Added Prometheus MVAM (+15 Power), and MVAM Alpha, Beta, Gamma (Varies)
    - Added Captain's Yacht, Duj'hod, and Class F Shuttlecrafts (+0 Power)
    - Added Peregrine and Tu'Duj Fighters (+0 Power)
    - Corrected existing Shuttle power settings (+0 Power)
    - Corrected error in Vo'Quv Carrier ship formula.
    - Separated Shuttles/Fighters in the drop-list.
    - Made some minor formatting changes.
    - Noted rounding variance in the Instructions.
    - Changed stats for Efficient Impulse Engine Mk IV: Bonus = 0.038*Max(75-Power,0)
-- Note that the EIE formula is still in testing.
    - Added the Breen Supercooled Combat Impulse Engine (+7.5 Engine Power)
-- The Breen Engine data is unconfirmed.

    >snip<

    Your feedback is appreciated.

No. The Power Calculator only calculates Ship's Power. For DPS calculation I would recommend Nagorak's Starship Weapons Calculator:

Regular Carrier bonus was changed to +10 Aux in the big Carrier nerf a couple of months back. Please update that.

Also would be nice to know how Aux affects pet launch in detail, as per that nerf/change.

Just noticed the Efficient Impulse Engine nerf, and I also hate this out of left field change that wasn't mentioned in the patch notes when it did go live. 51 pages and not one post by Gecko saying he might rescind that after his page 9 post. Come on the power levels are great but as soooooooooooooooo many people stated, we give up speed and turn for those power levels. When that item was designed, this was clearly the intent. If you want power levels you have to be a slowie. It's not OP simply because of this fact. Why change it now?

    Great thread.

They changed the carrier Aux? Hmm... Ok, I'll get that fixed. I don't have any specs on Aux affecting pet launch, other than I know it does. What are the stats?

Yeah, that EIE nerf was annoying on so many levels. :(

That reminds me, I also found out that the Breen Impulse Engine's power buff is not a flat 7.5, but rather like the EIE it is on some kind of curve. I'll need to do testing to confirm... But I'll get that fixed eventually too.

Thanks for the update/info. Nice to know someone still uses the Calc.

Just plus ten to Auxiliary unless it was changed again and I'm not aware. Nothing else. Also any idea what having a power level of over 100 really does and is it worth getting 125 in say, weapons, over just having 100? What about shields 100 versus 125? This is effective of course, not base.

    [rant=start]

Made the Carrier more sciencey and pets depend on Auxiliary, but called it "not a true science ship" and didn't give it Sensor Analysis like the other Science ships. What next, they planning to take away the subsystem targeting in a future patch? Why am I even typing this possibility? Carriers are the only unique ship in the game and that nerf was a travesty in IMHO. Just continue to neuter the thing, and they might as well just take carriers out of the game at that point. How much you wanna bet there's no new one being developed for level 61? I see it as a low chance. Unless the ships at the max rank would still all be comparable to tier 5 (VA/LG are already called tier 5.1 aren't they?), if they don't make a new Science Carrier at 61 it will basically force all Carrier pilots to either abandon ship, fly an inferior ship statswise, or use Varanus/Battle which are slightly less outdated. Carriers already get one less officer slot. Wasn't that enough?

    [/rant]

The EIE is showing up as 3.8 on my KDF who still uses it. She has efficiency skills already and is a Joined Trill so I can't give exact stats, but I'm sure it is less than 3.8 actual. Only Commander 7 currently, so I see it as still worth using until a suitable Mark 10 later regardless.

I wanna give the calculator a whirl on my PC, bit unless you have an apk I honestly haven't tried it on my Android yet, actually.

Thanks, I tested and confirmed the Carrier settings. The Calc was actually already correct, but my OP hadn't been updated. It has now been corrected:

    - KDF Vo'Quv Carriers get +10 to Aux power.
    - KDF Kar'fi Carriers get +10 to Weapons and +5 Aux power levels.

I updated the OP with the Season 4 Changes that make the Efficient BO trait available to not only the Uncommon Saurians, but also Rare and Very Rare Saurians.

And for those that don't know, in the near future the KDF will be able to get Efficient Lethean BOs. This isn't in game yet, but expected to be a part of the DOff System (scheduled to be released at the end of October).

Due to the Season 5 Space Skill Revamp, the Ship Power Level Calculator is broken.

In my opinion the new Space Skill Revamp is not complete, or at the very least, unbalanced. The Space Traits got messed up. Consoles, Deflectors, etc. got altered too. Not to mention there are new consoles, and I think some new DOff traits to consider.

I feel the game will require the multiple patches over the next few weeks/months to get the system running smooth. I'll not likely even look at fixing the Calc until things become stable. I've removed the download links from the OP, but will keep the Legacy text for now.

the calculator didn't work so bad with season 5. I adapted the new Energy skills with the old one and the power output levels of my ship fits very well to the power levels of the calculater. Power levels below 75 were the same as in the calculator. Power levels above were 2-3 points under the calculated values. I deposited all my equipment and looked up only energy levels due to skills.
I hope you are planning to fix your calculator because it's a very helpful and great tool.

I'd expect the old code is pretty close to the new one, so hearing the sheet matches fairly close doesn't surprise me. There are significant differences, and I wouldn't be content re-releasing the calc with that kind of error margin.

Finding the "fix" is the problem.

I can understand most maths, once presented, and am good at explaining such things that I already grok, but destilling the formula from presented raw data is not my strong suit. I can do it, but it takes me lots of time. I rock when it comes to designing Excel spreadsheets, but I stood upon giants. As I said in the OP, the formula and power info on which the Calc was based was provided by other users (Binkenstein, Kiala, and Tiran_Diaz). I just made it a "fill in the blanks for dummies" type of thing, hiding the complicated foruma behind a nifty spreadsheet. Heh.

Lately I'm having a blast, playing the game (I'm sorry to say ), I've not been in research mode. That said, I haven't given up on the Calc. In fact, I've been poking other players who have the time/inclination to futz with the new skills and break out the numbers. But until a dev/player can tell me the new formula or I'm bored enough to crack the code myself, the Calc will remain offline.

Thank you for your support. :D

I wanted to let you all know that I started some testing this last weekend to decipher the new skill behaviors. I didn't finish, but I did make some good progress, then my fleet needed a teammate for KA Space Elite, I just had to volunteer, and before you know it I was playing STFs for a few hours.

As I said, I'm having lots of fun playing Star Trek Online again (something that had been missing for a long time pre-S5). The Y2 Anniversary is this upcomming weekend, followed by the Featured Episodes for weeks after. I'll try to continue testing in between all the fun stuff, but well... Play is a priority. :p

I'm subscribed to that thread and have seen that data. While it's helpful in a basic way, it is also incomplete in the more complicated ways I need to derive a power formula. Most specifically is how the skills interact with each other. And that question has yet to be answered satisfactorily (but is one of the things on my list to test, when I get to doing that again). :o

So yeah... Bottom line is this project is not forgotten and will return Soon™.

Using a Human Captain with no Power-related Traits, on Tribble, with a Miranda, I've been doing some testing and here are my results so far...

    Warp Core Efficiency
    Skill.|......Power.......|..Gain @50/25
    1.....|..50/50, 26/25..|..+0/+1
    2.....|..51/50, 28/25..|..+1/+3
    3.....|..52/50, 30/25..|..+2/+5
    4.....|..53/50, 31/25..|..+3/+6
    5.....|..53/50, 31/25..|..+3/+6
    6.....|..53/50, 32/25..|..+3/+7
    7.....|..54/50, 33/25..|..+4/+8
    8.....|..54/50, 33/25..|..+4/+8
    9.....|..54/50, 34/25..|..+4/+9
    B1...|..54/50, 34/25..|..+4/+9
    B2...|..55/50, 35/25..|..+5/+10
    B3...|..55/50, 36/25..|..+5/+11

Based on just my testing, the Efficiency (only) portion of the new formula would be (Eff/533)*max(75-Power,0), and this seems to work for power settings 25 and 50 with a skill value from 0 to 121.5 (Skill Rank 9 + 3x Effc BOs @+7.5 each).

Warp Core Potential appears to be a straight power increase at all levels of 0.05/Skill. So at Rank 4 you have a 64 Skill and +3.20 power to each subsystem. The display always rounds down, so you see +3 on your UI:

    Warp Core Potential
    1..|..100..|..50..|..25
    2..|..101..|..51..|..26
    3..|..102..|..52..|..27
    4..|..103..|..53..|..28
    5..|..103..|..53..|..28
    6..|..104..|..54..|..29
    7..|..104..|..54..|..29
    8..|..104..|..54..|..29
    9..|..104..|..54..|..29

Note that at Rank 9 WCP is producing +4.95, so you're practically getting +5, but again, the display always rounds down. Also I still need to test the Performance skills, and see how all three work together (I'm assuming/hoping it's straight addition). Hopefully I'll get to this tonight.

Note that this info differs from what's been posted by cabal1202 and Roach. So there will be plenty more testing/iterations (or perhaps Dev confirmation) before we're through. :)

Last night I did my testing on the Performance Skills. I also did 24x different combinations of the three skills and recorded the combined results of these. This morning I think I've figured out the forumla for calculating Performance and will be putting it together with the other two and comparing to those 24 iterations.

Very soon a new Calculator should be posted. :)

Ok, I've done testing on Tribble, and now Holodeck, with a couple of my characters, including those with and without Power enhancing traits, various ranks/skill levels, and ships/devices. I'm fairly confident this is a workable Unified Power Formula:

    ((WCE/533.33)*max(75-Power,0))+(WCP/20)+(XP/9.99)

    WCE = Warp Core Efficiency
    WCP = Warp Core Potential
    XP = Subsystem X Performance

I have started revamping the spreadsheet, and hope to have it completed and posted in the next couple days.

BTW, here's the breakdown on Performance skill:

    Subsystem X Performance
    1.....|..101..|..51..|..26
    2.....|..103..|..53..|..28
    3.....|..105..|..55..|..30
    4.....|..106..|..56..|..31
    5.....|..107..|..57..|..32
    6.....|..108..|..58..|..33
    7.....|..108..|..58..|..33
    8.....|..109..|..59..|..34
    9.....|..109..|..59..|..34
