Actually, the second row black color is appropriate for appearance. The "pitch black" isn't a naturally occuring dye. I do agree with you about the shoulder grey but in the other direction, 1 to the right. The way you have it configured is way too dark.
While the lighter gray might look good in the Tailor screen, I think it looks too light in the brighter lighting of most of the game. On your avatar image for instance, your shoulders appear lighter than the uniforms do in the shows and films. The color I have designated looks most appropriate with all of the game's lighting.
Depends on what your going after, because i have noticed that the First Contact uniforms are a wee bit darker on the shoulders than the other TNG movie and late DS9 uniforms.
Command and Medical/Science are very dark by comparison but engineering/security is very bright in general and not just on that photo.
I suggested this a few posts up and asked for opinions but since nobody posted anything I left them as is. Again I must remind you that most of the in game lighting is actually much brighter than what is shown in the Tailor screen, but I do think a bump of a shade or two would still appear accurate.
DEVS!!! Sticky this HIGHLY useful thread!!! It is just as useful as the tribble flowchart and Suri's great star and ship charts.
Thanks for the work you put into this Blackavaar, it deserves a sticky
You're welcome Cap! It's an ongoing project that I will keep updating according to the feedback I get. Just keep bumping it until they give us a sticky. I'll keep making adjustments until I feel everything is represented perfectly.
Case in point, the WoK uniform shots have been redone to show the appropriate colors for the pant stripe. Thanks again for catching that, Rook.

Aye that it is, personally ive settled more for a first contact look with the shoulder at 5 notches out instead of 6.
All 24th century (TNG/DS9/VOY) gold uniforms have been updated to use the Gold B5 color selection. All wallpapers have been updated to reflect this change.
Great job with the guide BIackavaar really apperciate it. Just one question. I always thought the collar on the voyager/early DS9 uniforms were more of purplish color then grey and the pips were gold. Here are some pictures.

Actually, I have been watching this show a lot recently and remember, I've tested these colors against a lot of the actual game world lighting rather than just the Tailor. That shade of cool gray does appear somewhat lavender in a lot of lighting, but appears bluish in others, just like in the show.
The rank pips in Voyager are actually more of a brushed white gold. While the silver I've chosen isn't exactly what it should look like, it's actually much closer to the real thing than the gold would be. If the pips had that gold sheen that the TOS uniform rank stripes have they would look perfect.
Thanks for your input. I'm always glad to answer any questions and make alterations when it is waranted.
This Thread is a real big help in making good looking canon uniforms.
Especially someone who has absolutly no sense of good looking uniforms ( like me ), this place is really enlightning and should be sticky.
@Blackavaar you and everyone helping you, are doing a really great job here.
Mods, PLEASE sticky this extremly useful thread!!!
I have been watching this thread, just waiting for it to get a sticky. I think it deserves one. I think the problem might be that you used the word "canon." Try it again with something like, " a helpful guide to Star Trek uniform colors.
Like I said, I think it deserves a sticky, it may just be a technical issue.

So, you're thinking that because I used the word "canon" CBS now has to approve of this thread before it can be given a sticky? Well, if that's the case it would be nice if a dev would pop in and tell me. Don't you think?
I'm considering making an upgraded Uniform Color Guide to include ALL of the uniforms in the game with my take on what the best color schemes for them are. What do you all think? Would you like to see something like that?

Hmm... if you wanted to make a guide that said "here are some suggestions for canon color based 25th century uniforms," that would probably be best. Otherwise, it's just a guy saying "here's my opinion on what looks good!" Which is nice, but since everyone has their own opinion on what looks good, it might not be quite worthy enough for a guide?
Unless I'm getting some weird bug that no one else is; I'd like to note: Currently TOS Mirror uniforms are no longer allowing for color editing on that specific piece, you have to modify a different one then switch over to that piece. Also: the belt is no longer using the same color palette that the rest of the uniform does, it's using the expanded alien skin tone palette.
edit: The coloring bug on the Mirror uniform is only on male characters, females can edit their tank tops without issue.

I would love it if you did that, I was just playing around with my character thinking how i'd never actually looked at the current uniform the NPCs use and how I wish that were part of your guide

Well, Pariahterra suggested above that maybe it's the word "canon" that is keeping the guide from being stickied, as it may be necessary for CBS to approve of the selections made themselves.
Of course, they would be all colored in the "canon" fashion as the series uniforms are. I would just avoid using the word "canon" in the title.
Maybe I could just add a disclaimer to this guide that these are not officially "canon" until declared so by the owners of the IP and that they are merely the consensus of the game community as to what appears closest to "canon" colors.

YES YES YES
I would love to see work as to different good looking uniform styles. I have one that I just love for my tactical officer, modeled on the ground combat uniforms seen in DS9 kind of, but as far as other good looking uniforms, I'm stuck. I have some that are OK at best.
Okay, I've begun working up a list of the 25th century uniforms and taking note of the colors as they are worn by various NPCs. The combination of pants and tops and the colors used appear quite different than the defaults that are set if you use the basic uniform chooser. I will add them to the guide as I complete them.
Also, the moment it becomes available to me I will be adding the Alternate Future uniform from All Good Things to the guide as well. I'll be rewatching the episode several times over the weekend and taking note of the colors used.
I want to point out that you used a gray as the undershirt for the Type B Uniform (Early DS9/ Voy) but its more of a blue-gray/purple.
People have pointed this out before. As I explained previously, the purplish and bluish colors you see are an effect of lighting, not the actual color of the garment. The cool gray color that I have chosen has the same effect in many of the areas of the game that have similar lighting. They just don't appear that way in the neutral lighting of the Tailor screen.

Oh, I wasn't concerned about canon, I just wanted to make sure that's what you were doing... I mean, when you say a guide for what "I think looks good," you might be thinking that neon green and pink look good. And as good as they do look together, I think people would expect a canon-based guide from you, based on this thread. That's all. I mean, if you DO want to do a guide, with all the craziest colors you can think of, then go right ahead Just make it clear that it's your own opinions, rather than a guide to using "canon" colors on the new uniforms.
I think that the whole "calling this canon prevents it from being officially recognized" argument is somewhat silly, but given that CBS had a hand in everything down to turbolift door labels, I wouldn't put it past them.

I should be finished with the 25th century uniforms very soon. You will probably like the fact that most of them are actually matched to the colors as they are worn by NPCs in the game, which makes them truly canon (that is assuming CBS considers those canon). For some there are many variations or there are no NPCs in the game that wear them. In those cases I just picked the colors that looked most like something that could have been worn in one of the series.
As for whether this thread is officially recognized or not no longer matters to me. My time here is short now. I will not go into the whys and wherefores in this thread.
I've only read the first post and looked at a couple of the pictures, but my oh my, what great work. I'll have to spend more time going through this later.

Thank you for the time and effort put into to assembling these guides. At first, I assumed some of them were wrong. Though, that's not really accurate. It really does depend a lot upon ones video settings and the lighting of the zones. I've found your guide to be really good places to begin when customizing my BO's with my uniform of choice.

QFT. I appreciate the OP's effort in this detailed guide. However, colors are going to change in different lighting for different areas, let alone everyone's monitors, video cards, color profile, and monitor adjustments are going to be different, which makes it look right to one person but not another.

This, as all good designers know, is correct. To the OP: post your monitor settings and profile so people will have a baseline from which to operate.
