cardcaptors is good, magic girl was ok.. the rest i couldn't really get into, and sailor moon is just way too over layed

    ikki tousen is good =3

It's not Cardcaptors. Or if Cardcaptors is what you have seen, then you have not seen Cardcaptor Sakura. You saw the *******ized American version.

    Same way with Sailor Moon.

Originals are better in both cases.

I think that pretty much sums up any Anime that gets over to the US, I remember watching the US and subtitiled versions of Starblazers (aka Space Battleship Yamato) and Robotech (Macross) and getting two different impressions of what the heck was happening

I usually prefer subtitled versions, but I guess it depends on who does the translation for the subtitles. But they are usually closer to what is being said than just translating script and reading back in English.

Also, depends on how much editing they do in the American version. There were parts of both sereies that i mentioned that were edited out for the "sensibilites" of younger viewers. Some of these edits caused dramatic shifts on how the plot develops also.

Funny how we are about the only country in the world that worries about such 'sensibilities'. When I was growing up living in Germany, we always lived off base, and I was seeing stuff in the local stores and such that you would never find on base or over here. It is the same in Japan. Sometimes I think we create problems here because we try too hard to shield our kids from things that they are going to end up finding out on their own.

On the other hand, when you have shows like "Secret Life of the American Teenager", I want to go out and start choking someone. Lets just idoliize teen pregnancy and sex.

Yeah, I remeber some "Yellow Cannabis Tea" in the Leipzig Germany Airport gift shop last time I went through their with the Navy. Senior Chief pretty much banned anything in that diplay refrigerator once I pointed that one out to him. I wonder why??? :)

I am all for giving Capulet the official title of Captain of Ten Forward.

I've been in the center chair too long, anyway. I'd make a better grumpy CMO or something.
