I get it. The game revolves around you, and they have to respond immediately to every concern you have, without thinking, and if they do it wrong, you'll hate them for not thinking about it.

I actually think that thinking about stuff is a good policy, but hey, that's just my opinion.

Its funny, you guys claim WE'RE the narcissists, but you flame us when we dont agree wth YOUR view. Its especially funny when you guys are constantly thinking its your way or everyone is wrong

If they wanted to ignore it, they would've locked each and every thread about it, and not let even one be open.

thats where you dont understand. if they did THAT, ppl would be DDOSsing their foums, trying to crash it and everything. Same thing happenned with something or other when the Goons got ****ed at CCP. They shut down the forums till the Goons let em have it back.
THIS way, they can have the One Thread to Rule Them All, and have a "legitimate reason" withing their own rules to lock the other threads. And the sticky is just there so itll die down and go away. The first time they did this, the thread went from 50k views to over 100k in like 4 hours, then died off, and stopped growing.
    Its a good tactic.

look back over the thread and see how many moderated posts there are. I havent seen any. That in itself should tell you theyre ignoring it. I know for a fact Ive been reported a few times in this thread, for things that are violations, and no reprecussions.

It's the classic forum issue mixed in with human laziness. I admit, I'm lazy at times too, but I always learn a topic before jumping into it.

As with any heated thread, you'll have people come in who didn't research the issue. They'll drop a line like "well, I didn't read the last X number of pages but I think..." as if that is a cover-all excuse. Then the POed people in the thread will reiterate everything again, then starts a new argument and more fuel to the flame as the new person starts the argument all over again.

lol sadly i tink ive read every post :p
man I GOTTA start playing the game again

OK, so we're not angry/not angry/apathetic towards the whole thing.

Like anything else, it's all in the presentation. And how this was presented was in the worst possible way. I'm no PR guy, but I'm not happy with being told less than a month after I purchased the game that "Oh yeah, we're gonna give people who buy this game 60 days free instead of 30"

Point of clarification, It is 30 days with the box purchase and a 60 days bonus for trying the game. That is 90 days, plus free shipping to boot! It really works out that for all intents and purposes Atari is giving the new player a few dollars when all is said and done.

    So . . . the "logic" goes:

    a) Everything Is Motive.
    b) Trying to reason is irrelevent, as Everything Is Motive.
    c) Don't bother to seek reasons that do not involve motive, or that give any benefit of the doubt as Everything Is Motive.
    d) Nothing they do that actually makes sense is a good thing, as Everything Is Motive.
    e) Anything that is good business is evil, as Everything Is Motive.
    f) Everything they do is twisted to support one position or another, as Everything Is Motive.

Got it. It's all about their motives, it can't be about anything else.

Well, "giving" as in either eating its own costs or giving it at no profit, one of the two.

    At $15/month, 90 days (3 months) = $45
Cost to Atari/Cryptic for shipping it is probably $2-3 in bulk (guesstimate)
Cost to Atari/Cryptic for manufacturing the box and contents might be $2-5 (pure guess)
    Total value cost = $49 to 53

Cost of standard box to customer is $40

Granted, real cost to Atari/Cryptic is unknown as the $45 for 90 days might have a large profit margin if STO is successful or a negative profit margin if STO is a flop. None of this takes into account overhead and development costs either. We won't know for sure, but for the consumer new to STO, the 90 days with box is a bargain for $40.

With the "weekend sale experiment" it worked out that essentially Atari was paying people $5 to play the game.

edit: Cipher beat me to it.

    Hi everyone,

We understand that some of you are upset about the current sale on Atari.com. There are a number of threads on the forums about this, which is making it very difficult to find information about anything else on these forums. Due to this, we are closing all other threads regarding this matter. We do value your feedback on this, matter however, and would appreciate it if you would post your feedback regarding this matter here, in this thread. All other threads regarding this will be closed.

    Thanks,
    Phoxe

    Addendum:
I've heard many voicing concerns that we will not be honoring this sale for anyone who took advantage of it this weekend. This is not the case at all, and anyone who decided to take advantage of the offer will receive what they purchased, as advertised.

Question: was it always intended as just a weekend experiment? or did it get shortened from the hulabaloo...

No it was supposed to go until tomorrow but once the backlash started they pulled it, then tried to pretend it didn't exist, then claimed it was a "weekend experiment' in their statement.

"Weekend Experiment" was my favorite line, I want to meet the PR guy who came up with that one.

I came on here looking for the "Suggest 3 Things" thread. Instead I found this. :( I am typically not a big forum-poster, but I love Star Trek and I'm thankful to have a community of Trekkies all seeking out new life and new civilizations together.

Let's all take a deep breath. We've all bought something and had it go on sale the next day. Neither this policy nor the absurd number of angry forum posts is the end of the galaxy.

What I don't understand is the belief that angry forum posters are going to somehow cause Cryptic's warp-core overload. Huffy forum posts do not derail companies. What they do is render the forum dysfunctional, clog it up and take from the players a valuable resource.

If you want Cryptic/Atari to listen to your concerns, then suggest to them how to make the game better instead of griping-to-get-you-no-where about a sale they're pushing to make money (oh... the shame!) and drum-up interest in the game.

It's a GOOD thing! You may be out 15-25 bucks, but more STOers and more $ for Cryptic/Atari means what?

A better STO for all. :)

It got shortened. Originally the free 60 day offer was to last until March 4th.

The "weekend experiment" is just spinning it because they got caught dangling their dingle.
