So we should ignore the issues because it is the only Star Trek MMO around?
Perhaps at some point you can show us exactly where someone suggested that, because I know that wasn't stated anywhere in the post you just quoted.
As far as I can tell, this is you looking at statement and seeing exactly what you want/need to see. Is it really any wonder that you chose to perceive the Atari sale so poorly?
I came on here looking for the "Suggest 3 Things" thread. Instead I found this. I am typically not a big forum-poster, but I love Star Trek and I'm thankful to have a community of Trekkies all seeking out new life and new civilizations together.
Let's all take a deep breath. We've all bought something and had it go on sale the next day. Neither this policy nor the absurd number of angry forum posts is the end of the galaxy.
What I don't understand is the belief that angry forum posters are going to somehow cause Cryptic's warp-core overload. Huffy forum posts do not derail companies. What they do is render the forum dysfunctional, clog it up and take from the players a valuable resource.
If you want Cryptic/Atari to listen to your concerns, then suggest to them how to make the game better instead of griping-to-get-you-no-where about a sale they're pushing to make money (oh... the shame!) and drum-up interest in the game.
It's a GOOD thing! You may be out 15-25 bucks, but more STOers and more $ for Cryptic/Atari means what?
A better STO for all.
"Beautiful creatures, the Chandrans. Their minds are glacial. They have a lovely three-day ritual for saying, Hello."
Some of us have spent the last 3 months making suggestions on how to make the game better, only to be rebuffed with the perpetual mantra of "soon".
You may want to consider that many of us have been around a long time and seen no improvement but plenty of empty promise.
Also. Are you using the forums whilst on acid? All that colour does you no favours.
i'm skipping most of the moans, but i have one question to those who are saying its nothing to do with cryptic.
isn't the game subscription (login server, auth server) these are all run by cryptic, so my question. are u guys basicly saying NOONE at cryptic authorised extra 60 days?
it must be a joint venture? and just to add, most sales are planned in advance, and i expect this was known in advance by BOTH partys.
Oh absolutely. The keys for the server time must be generated and distributed to vendors by Cryptic. I forgot about that little piece of priceless info.
Atari Inc (retail NA ) can not just give away game time on the server farm without the operators generating keys for that game time ( to be honest The server farm also belongs to Atari.SA as they bought that too when they bought Cryptic but I'm tired of explaining the relationship to people who just don't want to accept it )
You may want to consider that many of us have been around a long time and seen no improvement but plenty of empty promise.
Indeed! We've been moaning since closed beta.
The last State of the Game announcement on the site gave me some hope. I'm patient but still waiting. I hope we have some decent end game and more content at the upcoming 45 day update.
Well, at least our frothing and rabid anarchist actions made them take down the offer.
Which is unfortunate, at least for those of us who were hoping the sale would boost the number of subscribers, which in turn could lead to generating more funds for continued development, which could then lead to improving the quality of STO, etc etc. You know, basically all the things we're hoping will happen.
So, uh.. yeah.. good job on squashing that plan, I guess. Wait.. what?
I think its time I e-mail Zinc and Phoxe again before my subscription runs out just to make sure my opinion on the matter is heard where it matters most.
That, or I pull in a favour from my friend who has a lot of contacts at the big gaming magazines and websites world wide...

How is that possible when our subs were going to be paying for those 90 days of game time...

Or... "just to make sure my opinion on the matter is heard since it matters most."? j/k I'm just playing the devil's advocate there and poking ya. I still agree with you about the issues.
If you were only in it to get something for nothing then you are barking up the wrong tree.
It's the principle that Cryptic thought they (yes, they. It's quite clear from Phoxe's statement that its the responsibility of Cryptic ) could just treat theyr existing customers as inconsequential when bidding for new customers. It's the insult that's the problem.
a statement saying "sorry you did not like our business choice, sorry we got caught out, whoops, we'll try to be better in future" does nothing to ally the fears of the customer base that this company considers numbers more important that getting things right for the thousands of us already here wasting our cash.

I had the wrong link corrected it now. And I was not in it to get something for nothing I am just ticked how they keep pretending it is about something it isn't.
Does this mean Atari has a net loss since 2007 and hasn't made a positive income since then? Is vapor cash paying for STO?
I've detailed Atari.SA accounts on these forums recently and in full going back to 2001. Last year alone they made a loss of $226 million. They have never made a profit. They made losses over $750 million in the last 9 years. They have posted a net operating loss for the first half of this financial year and have declared that they expect to make a loss at the end of the financial year. This is the year that includes all of Cryptic's income. Atari are in a huge financial hold and considering that the PC game market only makes up for 15% of their total game revenue then there will be no saviour in a few small scale MMO's from Cryptic.
But I urge you to do your own research. I am not a financial advisor.
They closed MY "goodbye thread" but LITERALLY NEVER cloase ANY one before it
...and no reason for it either
or likely any after it. Yeah, sorry guys. im giving the forums to the TRIBBLE kissers cause they apparently win
Gutted........I am sure we fought on opposite sides to start with but you made a formidable ally after your change of heart.......I am sure you will still have allies here if you should decide to return.
I still hope that Atari/Cryptic will do the right thing.
Well for those of you that have followed my posts you know I have tried to be open and honest with the responses I have gotten from Cryptic. Well I just had my ticket regarding this closed with no further response and marked "resolved".
Looks like they are just going to ignore this now. Well guess what Cryptic if that is how you want to treat your customers then you win. I'll take my money elsewhere.
Everyone else good luck for those leaving best whishes and for those staying I really hope for the best for you and that you enjoy your time in-game.
I cancelled quite some time ago but kept coming back to the forums.
The state of the game currently and the vaporware promises pushed me over the edge first.
Then the fiasco known as the "Atari Sale" really lit a fire under me.
But, as the fanbois have continued their slavish devotion to the Corporation and their systematic campaign to silence all dissent, I've been pushed over the edge.
Signing off.
Yet ANOTHER series in the Star Trek saga has been cancelled. At least I still have the TV shows (online and DVD), movies and books. Will have to suffice for now.
To the developers: as you have asked for all feedback and questions to be posted her relating to the Atari Sale and weekend conversations.
I'm searching for some information about banning people in game that has been reported back over the weekend in the fleet. I'd be grateful if you could point me in the direction please of where it says this will result in a ban as all I can find on the forums is a couple of posts from you saying you welcome feedback.
In our fleet we've had a couple of people banned in game, and they have taken screenshots of thier conversations, these were not rude or inflammatory, and I am at a loss to find your rule.

Wow.....If this is true then I am truly shocked and stunned.......I would normally say put in a ticket in any other game.....but to be fair i do not feel like that would help your case at this moment in time what with all the trouble.......perhaps you could try asking your fleet members to ring Customer services or going all the way up to Atari themselves?
Either way I cannot help you any further as to discuss the details would probably end with us both being infracted for being in breach of the Forum TOS
I don't understand the backlash towards this incentive for new players. I think it would be a great thing to see the community expand as much as possible. If there are certain incentives for new players, then that's great news.

The sale was just part of the whole mess check any number of mmo sites and they have articles relating to the whole debacle. Atari saying the 60 additional days free offer didn't exist is just astounding considering I have an email in my inbox from atari stating I would get 60 days free if I ordered from them over the weekend. Also consider some people are not able to cancel their account as the option is missing from their account page. Im sure cryptic will claim it was a "bug"
Comments
that just says what i said :S a parent company, thats wht i ment. but you don't employ a team (cryptic) and do whatever u like without telling them.

On a recent stumbling on the Internet when looking up "Atari, SA" for Great_Milenko's goodbye-forums thread.
