Fleet starbases on Holodeck are just around the corner. Are you in a fleet which will be able to build one in less than a millennium? If not, click my siggy banner and get started with the {UFP}!

Cheese is tasty. I wouldn't rule it out as a possible name, lol.
So the last time I was in a fleet it was extremely uptight and not really fun at all. I'm honestly curious how casual you would say your fleet is. I'm not looking for something that takes the fun out of the game but I want to get back into a fleet. Not trying to be rude just curious.

There are only two minimum things we ask of members.
The first being, that they follow the code of conduct - it's a simple set of rules, but at the core of it, if you are respectful to your fellow members, you'll be just fine.
The second being, we ask all members to sign the monthly Roll Call on our website to maintain his or her membership. We do this as a fair and equitable method of determining who is active and who is not. Reminders are sent out both in-game and via e-mail. If you visit the site, it is made very clear that the Roll Call is open and points you in the direction of how to sign it. It's about a two minute ordeal, and secures your membership.
We set no other activity requirements, how much you game with us entirely up to you and we respect that real-life comes first. We try to cater to both hardcore and casual players. There are aspects of the fleet that are there for more hardcore players or for those wishing to get more involved in the administration of the fleet. If you have no interest in that kind of stuff, you can simply ignore it and just play the game and chat on our forums and teamspeak without any pressure to do anything you don't want to do.
I can't wait to see the Starbase defenses come online... and I am in total agreement with Kains. 20-man fleet defense is just an epic battle with wonderful teamwork!

My perspective as a fairly new guy:
The website seems complicated, and the organization seems like a huge and intimidating institution at first. It's actually not as complicated or formal as it seems. The higher ups put a lot of effort into having things run smoothly, there's videos and teachers and stuff. They put a lot of work into it, and the website (once you get used to it) shows that. A lot of things, such as submitting an application or requesting a signature, have simple pages you just select and click.
We also get shiny signature images just from clicking a "I want a signature!" form. (Shiny! Free! )
Everyone is pretty laid back, friendly, and seem fairly casual - at the same time the Fleet is pretty active, and I see people forming STF groups all the time. (Seriously, ALL the time - there are so many people from different locations, there's always some people on.) Thus far I've only seen two exceptions where they're strict on something.
The first is the monthly roll call, which requires you to log into the website once a month and click a highly visible button. I think the reason they're fairly strict on this is to make sure the Fleet is full of active people who have logged on at least once a month. This is understandable, and really helps keep the Fleet active.
The second is the Fleet Bank. While we're more or less free to take whatever we need, we're only supposed to contribute Rares or higher. Violating this policy will get a response pretty quick, but that's because the bank tends to fill quickly so they want to keep the bank clear of chaff. This consequently means that if you level and need new gear, you basically choose from Rare or Very Rare gear - which is pretty cool. Besides of which, "keep it for yourself" isn't exactly a difficult rule to follow. :P

The roll call is a pretty neat system on the forums too, if you go into your UserCP on the UFP forums, you can check your Roll Call history and standing.
