What time did the servers go down. Because if they just went down at 8 pm PST(11 pm EST) I wont be able to get on until 2 am EST. Which REALLY sucks. Especially since I just sat down to play and didn't get to play yet today.

Its cool because Star Trek First Contact has been on since 9:30 and will end at 11:30, the exact time of the downtime!!

I'm thinking of making the driest martini in the system...I'll space a bottle of vermouth, shoot in with a photon torpedo and drive through the fall-out with a glass of vodka with the windows open...hehehe

Yeah, and about the time their "improved servers" that were supposedly coming with this big new patch which I assumed would actually hit about the time Early Start would hit, actually FINISH uploading these updates and the 2 admins left in charge of a server cluster supporting probably upwards of a million players finally manage to by-pass the automated patch loading stuff that has never worked since day one when no one could even download the beta client unless they had some uber fiber bone and did torrent like they had every Trek game, film, and series ever made from it, too, well, blech, I think you grab my meaning...

The problem with a theory of "yeah, let's go home and leave non-intelligent servers to do our patching processes for us", is that:

    1. Since distro of the beta itself, automated processes have never worked with STO because they don't have the cash from Atari quite yet to buy servers that can handle upwards of a million players AND handle compiling a patch of any kind, AND then handle the distro...

    2. They probably have one admin per server cluster (or are these kids calling servers "shards" these days? sigh...Simple language would be preferred here), which is always going to be a problem if they have to distro anything that actually changes the game code by more than about 100MB...You see, they need at least ten per cluster, assuming the servers came packaged with this patch since the server situation DID stabilize itself 36 hours prior to the launch of this patch to begin with...

    3. Who and/or what is going to tell the servers to reboot the login/authenticators to restart once the servers all have the same patch data? ;) One admin per server with each server probably responsible for at least 250,000 of us? Assuming they actually got the servers they claimed they were getting...

    4. If they did NOT actually get the servers 36 hours prior to this patch, and somehow managed another fix that seems more than unlikely, then presumably several hours of downtime would be needed to load up new servers with all the data and make sure they are ALL contiguous with each other and people won't run into certain data packets from the new servers and get data checksum problems because the game files they got from the original servers aren't the same as whatever the new servers may or may not have...All of this stuff has to be checked, then checked, then checked another half-dozen times more after that, or else this is endless for the duration of those clowns who went for lifetimes instead of a year, or decided to hold out for buying game cards that last as long as possible...Some parents aren't comfy with letting their kids hand out their banking stuff, regardless of how 'secure' things may in fact appear to be, so they hold for buying game cards that will instead last for an equal length of time...

I somehow don't think that anyone making patches that aren't quick-fixes can just start the upload to the servers and say "go home", or else how are the login servers going to restart when that is done? Servers never run themselves, not in that way, anyhow...;)

Don't get me wrong here, I don't like talking about the company because I know they have their problems just like all the whiners around here want to **** and moan over "prime time" (yeah, right...Next time, just say it's cutting into your personal fun when YOU ARE THERE TO TEST THE F'N GAME! Be a little more honest, or at least, consistent, with your lies ;))....

I won't like either side too much right now, especially after the thousand+ post EPIC FAIL TIMES 9000 thread that still ain't closed even after the 36 hours everyone was PLAYING while they were spamming that thread, and after this patch came out which was meant to shut those clowns up.

Really, who is modding these forums anyhow?? Can't you guys at least close the ancient 1000+ post-count thread where everyone and their monkey's-uncle repeats what the last post in front of them says, and then they repeat one another every 5-10 minutes they can't login? ;)

Isn't that TRIBBLE a bit abusive towards both the company *AND* those of us who are actually doing what we are supposed to be doing as testers? It invited trolls from every corner of Trek, even if they weren't in the beta or anything else, they were trolling that thread because some nit-wit told them it was fun and they probably don't even meet the minimum height requirements to get into this game (just like little Naomi Wildman, who somehow is in this game when her mother should be a Captain if she's Commander by now! sigh...I hope the rest of the story isn't this hack/slash and just blatantly incoherent that it sounds like someone's OD'd on speed or something else like that...)...

I don't mean those here who run the "little people" (at least that was 'nice' and 'politically correct' even though Starfleet has thrown BOTH concepts town the toilet by opening fire whenever they see something that isn't waving their own flag upon entering a star system...again, where is the OPTION to hail potential enemies before the shooting starts for Fed PVE? This isn't good for Trek at all, to be turning it into some mutant form of Crapquel-level Lucas-vintage Yoda Wars, know what I mean, those of us old enough to catch up?)...I mean those here who blatantly run around causing mayhem and chaos even if they aren't in the beta, just because they were too young and/or stupid to enter it like all the rest of us have...

If you guys just want to PVP, fine, but don't drag that crud into PVE where Starfleet should at least ATTEMPT to hail ships before throwing everything in their inventories at them, heck knows, they could be a holo-cloaked Starfleet ship trying to help expose 8472...Know what I mean?

Even Kirk, for all his problems with firing at everything, at least tried to contact unknowns and potential threats before he had to fight his way out of it...Most Captains would, given the choice...Sure, in PVP, the objective is to turn Trek into Wars, but in PVE, you should not have to just warp into every place you go and start firing like it is right now...I know it's still beta and not the early start or 2nd product yet, but I'm *NOT* liking the direction PVE has taken, and the totally incoherent storyline they drag you through, if PVE is your game...

To me, it seems like they are attempting to compete directly with Lucas Wars and MAKE everyone end up in PVP regardless of whatever other things they claim to support in the game so far...Exploration is bugged even after this patch which was supposedly meant to fix all of that stuff, and PVE is still bugged as well, people usually only tolerate it long enough to reach K-7 so they can just PVP and abuse the Klingon's seeming lack of anything like Resilient Shields and BO's that can basically turn the shields into a lag-wall even with 20 ping-times all around...

Balance is another huge flaw since this patch hit...I knew it was going to hit me, but, when your starter ship can solo a Negh'Var on it's own, erm, just, PLAIN...F'N....NO!! That ship is at the same tier as the Galaxy, therefore, it should be just as deadly to a Tier-1 Miranda or variant thereof, modified or not.

Seems like everyone will end up having Fed vs. Fed PVP because Klinks are either just too expensive or can't match up to anything in Starfleet at the same rank as they are, and I can just see Trans-Plothole-Torpedoes that ignore all shields, have high yields, and with a rank-9 personal torpedo weapons skill set, and a level-9 high yield tac-BO, will just become a game of who can shoot the other guy first and score a OHK on anything in the game...

I hope like heck those weapons don't totally ignore shields AND armor and just blow up anything they 'hit' like in Forager (with the yields I'm seeing so far in the ship requisitions area, tier-9 skill-sets for trans-plothole-torpedoes may not even be needed for OHK builds, and I can see the illegal ebay sales of those weapons right here and now, assuming they really behave like the crud on Forager did, there goes STO before it even hits stores at all...People will just spend $100+ if needed, load up Trans-Plothole-Torpedoes-X on their new builds, be they Fed or Klink, and this game is gone just as easily as if one of those stupid bluff weapons off Forager went off under the server clusters)...

Then we have the total IMBA between tiers, with my Miranda against Negh'Var example being a primary among the problems there...Can't count, during Sulu's patrol runs, how many of those Klink behemoths I took down myself with a heavily-modified Miranda variant...I wanted to see just how far they were willing to let experienced gamers go in running this game solo, and they did not really make any efforts that I can see to prevent this problem, in fact, once you hit K-7, you almost have no choice but to PVP for the rest of the game because PVE seems to be a lie if you don't totally avoid both Quinn and Sulu and TRY to run your own show until the exploration and non-'campaign' PVE brick-walls you due to lack of content or just plain bugs...

I'm guessing that you started writing this post immediately after the shard went down and just finished. Congratulations, you managed to add an entire page of posting all by yourself!

What's it matter if it down, we'll all have our accounts wiped soon right?

I think that should be drinking rule 5 for anytime someone asks if they can keep their stuff after beta.

Maybe that's why there is downtime, they all had to stop and watch it.

I didn't read all that, too much text. But I'm sure under our drinking rule games that equates to chugging a whole beer.

Yep , it does (gets up to get another)

Does anyone know the real reason klingons grew bumps on their heads? Warf wouldn't talk about it during that DS9 episode. :(

This is explained in the "Enterprise" Episode where Data's creator's Great Grandfather creates the Super Soldier Serum. It's injected into Klingons and makes them lose their ridges. That was the shows way of explaining why Klingons in the original series were smooth - they came from the population of super soldier klingon rejects.

Klingons are evolved from Bugs of somekind according to the STNG episode where everyone gets the disease on the ship that makes them devolve. Worf turns into a crazy bug monster.

    .....THAT was awesome.
