Since the Motherboard is a i7 board, yes. You now need to choice a CPU and a Graphic Card. Since you are going with such a high end setup look at the Nvidia GTX 260 or better, On the ATI side a HD 5850 or 5950.

Is someone helping you to build this system?

    Hi Cypher,

I forgot to say it is a laptop, which is why I was a bit worried.

But since my screen is so small, I don't imagine playing on any better than 1280x800, and I might play on 800x600 since I'll probably have a hard time seeing anything.

For either resolution you shouldn't have any problems. It should play pretty well. :)

An AMD Athlon II X2 is a CPU. An ATI (AMD) 3800 is a GPU of a video card. A 3100 GPU/video card would not be adequate (very low-end for the 3000 series). An Athlon II X2 CPU is fine, but that 3100 GPU is not.

I think he is referring to Athlon X2 3800+. I though it was the GPU too. I was going to answer it earlier but just feeling a little burnt out.

Please scroll to find response to your questions...
And the onboard Gigabit network port(s) are wired, not wireless. Some motherboards (specifically some Asus models) come with wireless built-in. But you'll know that because they'll market it all over the box and you'll see the antenna for it. :)

Onboard LAN and wireless are two different things.

Ah, I see now. Yeah, he listed them individually without the accompanying model names which makes things cumbersome and annoying.

The onboard lan is a wired Ethernet port. You'll need a "cat 5" or "cat 6" cable to connect it to your router. If you have a Wireless N router and wish to connect to it wireless instead of wired, then you should use a Wireless N PCI card. Netgear or Linksys. Now if you are over 100 ft away the signal strength will be weak. This site can help you understand networking. http://forums.smallnetbuilder.com/ but you need to explain to them your environment. They are going to need to know exactly what rooter you have.

    Read this:
    http://www.pcgameshardware.com/aid,700972/Star-Trek-Online-Hands-on-benchmarks-technology-preview-and-new-screenshots/Practice/
When talking to the developers we learned that the engine is optimized for dual-core systems - additional cores are not or only slightly utilized. DirectX 10 or DirectX 11 are not supported. FSAA or SSAA can be activated directly in the game. The physics engine is a self-made structure that runs on the server as well as on the clients. But we couldn't make out more than a few flying pieces of debris in the ground battles. Don't expect ripped of warp nacelles or scraped saucer sections.

Okay... the cpu is an Athalon X2 QL-60. I just wanted to know if that was comprable to the cpu 3800+.
The minimum requirements ask for X1800 video card... I have an Ati radeon 3100, three giga bytes ram... and plenty of hard drive space. I am not familiar with video cards, but the computer is a year old. I would imagine that it would be some what out of date... I have no plans to update or buy new. If it doesn't work, I wont waste my time on buying a game I can not play.

    The GPU won't cut it.

You can buy a $300-400.00 PC and add $100.00 Graphic Card.

You can even spend $50-60.00 and replace the PSU with a 500 W

    Graphic Chips Manufactures:
Nvidia and ATI are the gaming chip manufactures. Intel graphics can not be compared with these two. Only the very cheapest systems have them in them.

Most “Retail” PC will have integrated GPU. These are chips not cards. They use "shared memory" or non Gaming Graphic cards. Thess GPU’s will let you watch movies, view pictures, and play light demanding graphic games like WoW, Sims or Spores.

Now you can add a Gaming Graphic card to these systems. Look for a system with at least a 300 W PSU and 1 PCIE x16 slot. See if you can find one with a 450 W or better. HP/Compaq, Acer, and Gateway seem to put more powerful PSU in their system so check them out. If the Salesperson doesn't know what PSU wattage is in the system have them open it. Do not buy slim-lines PCs! They are very hard to upgrade. Look for a standard Mid-tower.

    Non Gaming Graphic Cards:
    ATI HD 3200 – 3500, 4200 - 4500 series cards.
    Nvidia Geforce G 100, G 120, G 210, 6000 – 6500 GT/GS, 7000 - 7500 GT/GS, 8000 - 8500 GT/GS, 9000-9550 GT/GS series cards.
    Anything with Intel graphics.

    Graphic Gaming cards:
    Entry level:
    ATI HD 4650 and 4670 cards only needs a 300 W PSU. Most of today's cheap PC has a 300 W PSU.
    Nvidia Geforce GT 240 needs a 350 W PSU
    Nvidia Geforce 9600 GT needs a 400 W PSU.
All four of these cards usually do not need a 6 pin PCIE cable. Always check the box for system requirements.
STO Gaming level med. Price ranges on these cards are under $100.00. The ATI's usually a better choice here on a price/performance.

    Mid Level:
ATI HD 4850,4890, 5750, 5770 and the Nvidia 9800 GT, 9800 GTX, GTS 250 needs a 450 to 500 W PSU with one 6 pin PCIE cable. Always check the box for system requirements.
STO Gaming level High. Price Range: $100-230.00.

    High End:
    ATI HD 5850, 5870, 5970. Nvidia GTX 260, 275, 295 needs a 550 to 750 W PSU with two 6 pin or 1 6pin and 1 8 pin PCIE cables. Always check the box for system requirements.
STO Gaming level Very High. Price Range: $250.00-600.00.

Now you can install these cards yourself and save money. It's really not that hard. If you go this route just come back here and we'll help.

Today most PC's have dual cores CPUs and a lot have quad-cores. So just make sure the processor is at least a dual-core and the speed is at least 1.8 GHz or better. Better is better. AMD vs. Intel. To make the simple, don't worry about it. Just look for AMD Athlon x2, Phenom, Phenom II or Intel Core 2 Duo or Core 2 Quad.

Well I found some power supplies but I have no idea on the conversion from metric to SAE. If anyone wants to take a look here you go. The measurements are metric, if i am thinking right there is a 400W and a 460W that would fit my comp.
