hello everyone ive been checking the site for a long time now and still no closer to finding out when this game is coming carnt anyone give an estmated guess other than 2009?

    nope.

The company "Cryptic" is famous for living up to their name. They don't like to generate undue hype, therefore they don't announce ANYTHING unless it's written in stone. Unlike other gaming companies, for example BioWare, who make MASSIVE PR announcements...

"WE'RE MAKING AN AMAZING STAR WARS MMO! IT'LL POSSIBLY BE OUT SOMETIME WITHIN THE NEXT FIVE YEARS!!!! IT'S GOING TO BE AMAZING!!! WE CAN'T TELL YOU WHY, BUT TRUT US, IT'S GOING TO BE AMAZING!!!"

Cryptic takes a more subtle approach. This game has been in development for good while now, and just looking on this site, there are only a handful of screenshots and just three videos, only two of which are actually from the game.

They've learned from the mistakes of games like Funcom, whose all but replaced SOE as the laughing stock of the MMO world due to the way they mishandled AoC. They announced a released date, were forced to push it back several times, then finally released it without many of the features they claimed it'd have, and STILL to this day are attempting to fix bug issues that have plagued the game sense launch.

Basically, in he last four years, between SOE and Funcom, Cryptic has seen how NOT to run an MMO vividly illustrated, and they're taking those lessons to heart. They aren't going to announce the open beta until they're certain that the game is ready for open beta, and they're certainly not going to announce the release date, until they KNOW it'll be ready on time.

In this department, I applaud them for being professional. I just hope they game lives up to expectations, which sadly, few MMOs ever do. I can't wait to see this game either, but if they're willing to act professional, I'm willing to be patient.

BTW, ello STO community, my name is Trixxe.

I too am looking forward to this game. I've watched it from afar for about a year now and the things Iv'e seen look top notch. The folks at Cryptic seem to understand that not only do they have to deal with persnickity MMO fans but they've also got to deal with the legion of Star Trek fans. Either group can break this game at launch so they seem to be making sure that it's "right" from the start.

I hope to be downloading it to my shiny new XPS 430 very soon.

Hiya folks, I am getting very excited for the release of Star Trek Online, Man!!! There are a lot of us out there holding our breath!!! Thank you Cryptic Studios!!! You guys rock!!!
If at this time I would like to let folks on the West Coast of the US of A, if you are interested .....
Eugene Roddenberry (the son of the Great Gene and Majel) will be on Catalina Island this Saturday May 9th premiering Star Trek 11 in our Grand Casino Theatre. Special guests include Nichelle Nichols, George Tekai, as well as a few others from Enterprise. Just thought I'd pass the word to the community. Keep in mind it is an Island you are coming to. You need to catch a 1 hour boat ride to get here, and the last boat leaves the island by 9:00pm , so you are probably looking at a hotel stay on the island for the evening, but what a cool thing to do with the Family!!! Take care folks !!! Can't wait for this weekends release, and even more excited for the release of Star Trek Online..... Cryptic You Rock!!!!!
    Live Long And Prosper:cool:

Yes can hardly wait to put my character into STO, I've been a fan of Star Trek since the original series, watched it gro into TNG and DS9 Voyager and enterprise, So to me to be a part of an mmo that is Star trek will be a highlight of my life. i've watched as ideas and devices have become a reality, i.e. flip oopen comm devices..
I am currently a member of Lotus Fleet where we are all awaiting the arrival of the STO beta, each hoping we obtain a BETA pass, but along with that we have events to train ourselves in the Starfleet tradition. we are preparing for fleet action in the MMO come over and check out what we have to offer.

Whoa boy ~ the rumours around this game release have multiplied faster than tribbles on speed over the past few years. Waterboard is torture? Pfffft ... sure it may suck, but REAL torture is telling a pre-natal trekker that an online game is going to be released sometime soon then ... nothing. OH sell the rights, try again ... nothing.... I just about died when Cryptic took in on. Especially when they developed StarTrekOnline.com. This site has been the boon of my everyday! can't wait for the release! (love The Path ~ way to juicy to read at work, i get way to excited.) *laugh* :D:D

Well i found out about STO on a gaming reviews website, and since then ive been hooked with regular daily visits to this site to get all the latest info fast... im looking forward to it !!!

Although it would break every law i know, id use Temporal Mechanics if possible to get some "sneak previews" of the future... however, patience is a virtue (yeah, us Beta Testers are used to hearing this :)).

All that is left for me to say, is GLUK Cryptic Devs, your building a game with mass-potential, and im sure everyone here is "itchy-fingered" to get a piece of the action !!!

    Hey folks,

I've been a lurker here for a while, but just thought I'd introduce myself.

Been a fan of Star Trek since I was a kid, when I used to sit and watch TNG with my older cousin. Yes, I have seen the new movie, and yes I really do like it. I think it's an awesome reboot to introduce the franchise to a new generation. The Prime Universe is still there, and even if we don't see it on screen anymore, we've got STO to allow us have our own stories there.

Also, I'm a bit of a comic book geek too. I've played CoX for a few years now on the EU Union Server (taking intermittent breaks), and only recently decided to go on hiatus from there. I'm hoping to find a new home for my super-heroics in Millennium City, and then to boldly go with ST:O.

    Seeya around!

I saw several people posting their greetings here so I assumed this was an intro thread. My bad. :) I don't like starting additional "Hi, I'm..." threads if there's a single, amalgamated introduction thread that I can just add to. If I missed such a thread, point me in the right direction. Thanks. :p
