Loving the fact this came up so soon after I asked the question... Problem I seem to be having. I;ve restarted Diplomatic Orders about six times and I have scoured the map each time... Can I find this temporal probe... No, no I cannot.

One trick is to type this into chat and then hit enter. Apparently targeting has a range of 85 metres:

    /target temporal probe

There's also a written guide that has probe locations:

Diplomatic Orders - There are two places on P'Jem that it may be found. The first is behind the Klingons standing on the hill right after you beam in. Another location is near the house where you fight the Klingon who is not a Klingon. Alternate location: between the two buildings behind the last set of Klingons before you beam out. Tertiary Location: Right behind you when you beam down to P'Jem.

Night of the Comet is still more or less available in the "Available" tab, it is the last episode in the Spectres arc, which is the best (and practically only) TOS-based temporal arc in the game after leaving the TOS tutorial. The caveat is that instead of it being available from midgame like it was designed for moving it to the "Available" tab means that it is walled off for endgame only play and all the rewards are still geared for mid-level and come out as blue quality or less.

Night of the Comet really should be in the Temporal widget, and the whole arc should be put back in place since anyone who does not want to do it could simply skip it since they fixed the skip a few years ago so it actually works.

If you're on PC, try typing in the chat window: /target temporal probe
If you're within 50 meters, it should help.

Honestly the whole Spectres arc should be put back in somewhere. And maybe revamped to take advantage of new assets.
Also the first mission needs to be tweaked so that you spawn in the right place with the Fed Fleet instead of with the KDF fleet.

Any updates to any Recruits applies to all recruits of that type. So yes. If any changes are made to Temporal Recruit objectives, they are applied to existing ones as well.

The only thing that needs to happen DURING a Recruit Event is obtaining the Transponder Gubbin. From that point on, that character is, and will always be, a Recruit character. And whenever the Recruit event comes around, any bonuses from being a Recruit character will reactivate.

If you made a TOS character outside of the Temporal Recruit Event they do not become Temporal Recruits. You need to make a TOS character and get that Transponder DURING the event to be a Recruit.
The question asked here, I believe, is what happens if one creates a TR during a Recruitment event, but doesn't claim the transponder or finish the tutorial before the event ends? Can the tutorial be completed during the next such event, and the transponder claimed then, or does one have to start all over again?

Yes, that's what I'm wondering about.
So do we have to complete the same iteration of the event that was running when we created our toon? Or can I continue making progress on a toon that I created during the last Temporal Recruit Event?
That's a great question that I'd love if we knew the answer...
It's worth a try to see if your existing TOS-era character gets it upon completion, but I wouldn't count on it happening.

I guess I'll just have to try that indeed.

So, to follow up on this:

Nothing on the toon I created during the previous recruit event suggests that he is a recruit. So it seems like you can't continue working on a recruit if he didn't fully became one and claimed the device during the iteration of the event when he was created.

Just in case anyone was still wondering. It's an alternate account I don't play all that much, so I won't be completing the rest of the tutorial only to find out for sure that he still won't be a recruit - I'm going to assume that he won't be.
