Almost Latinum Vanity Shield

If you equip the Reman prototype shield and do the Spoils of War mission from the Cardassian Struggle arc, you can get an idea of what a GPL vanity shield would look like. I think this is the only version of the Badlands that has this effect, all other versions seem to turn your ship white pearl.

It also looks a little bit like what a ship with a Federation-formulation tritanium-alloy hull would look like with the white ceramic coating stripped off (the brass fittings on the big TOS Enterprise shooting model were supposed to represent bare tritanium, which both Roddenberry and Jefferies called a "yellow metal".

Klingons and Romulans mostly used bare tritanium hulls (they only seemed to use that gray coating much in the 2260s) but their alloys are formulated in such a way that they built up a protective patina (red-brown in the case of Klingons and greenish in the case of Romulans) rather than using the ceramic coating the Feds preferred.

As far as I know of CBS has not issued much in the way of behind-the-scenes tech-lore stuff like that, so it is anyone's guess what that gray metallic-looking surface treatment is on top of the tritanium in ENT and NuTrek (my guess is it could be a duranium vaporcoat or something since duranium is supposed to be a grayish metal, or it could be a coating of ordinary titanium since the (compared to tritanium) softer metal might be good for a cheap ablative protection from dust and gas erosion for the tritanium hull itself).

It could also be a form of protective paint or simply plain old steel since these ships are meant to deep space explorers so the hull wouldn't rust as easily as there's very little oxygen in space.

It's not oxygen that's a problem (what 0.000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000001 PPM there is of it), it's radiation - THAT'S what degrades TRIBBLE in space.

I don’t get it… there are no vanity shields purchaseable with GPL…

    Unless I’m missing something…

Highlighting what a GPL vanity shield could look like. Jeez can you imaging the amount of bars it would take to cover a whole star ship.

However much volume a single bar takes up in a liquid form X the paint-equivalent amount needed to cover any given ship.

It does not take much gold to cover quite a bit of square footage if you electroplate or vaporcoat. And the reason gold-pressed latinum looks like gold is that it IS gold you see, not the latinum (which in its non-bonded state looks like a grayish-silver liquid according to what Morn barfed up). It just happens that it bonds in an easily extracted yet stable way to gold atoms.
