I thought the saucer section traveled to Farpoint at warp 2, but it has been a while since I saw the episode.

IIRC though it's been while since I watched that episode, the saucer "coasted" into Farpoint station, as in it wouldn't enter warp by itself but loosing the stardrive section doesn't seem to mean instant exit from warp.

I believe the saucer has a warp sustainer, but can't actually go to warp on its own. So a saucer separation at warp will allow the saucer to continue at warp for a short time. It would eventually slow down and drop to sublight, but it wasn't immediate.

I believe one of the intents behind the saucer separation was crew evacuation. We basically saw that in Generations when the saucer was used to evac the entire crew and land "safely" on Viridian III. One of the old TNG trading cards showcased how it would work, which is almost exactly how it worked in Generations, minus losing control. The contact and slide out was the final step. But it was supposed to be in a more controlled fasion.
The saucer sections of many starship classes were designed to make planetfall on a suitable planetary surface, preferably class M. The saucer was required to make a level approach, heading towards the ground at a shallow angle. The area chosen for landing had to be smooth and relatively free of obstruction. However, unless there were landing struts or similar equipment available, the vessel would generally be disabled beyond repair. (Star Trek Generations)

IIRC though it's been while since I watched that episode, the saucer "coasted" into Farpoint station, as in it wouldn't enter warp by itself but loosing the stardrive section doesn't seem to mean instant exit from warp.

In a later episode they technobabbled about the saucer's warp sustainers and modifying them to allow the whole ship to "coast" in warp without using the active warp engines to get out of the jam the episode revolved around, so the sustainers (which is also how photon torpedoes can travel FTL as long as they are launched from a ship in warp) are probably how they pulled the Farpoint trick if it was close enough.

It was a bit of a sore point with the fans though, they would have had less trouble with the them if they had some sort of low power warp drive in the saucer itself, and it is not like they didn't have examples of in-hull warp systems used safely enough by other starfaring peoples.

There isn't much left that isn't in the game. So maybe only Legendary Mogai (Donatra 5/2/1 intel/mw) and Mirror Negh'var (Regent 5/3, command/temp).

There are actually quite a few ships that were in the shows that are not represented here, even Federation ships if you take into account the wreck fields, mothball fleet yards, and the kitbash fleet. There is also a lot of potential for modernized versions of a lot of the alien ships of races that later joined the Federation.

Outside of the Federation there are a lot of ships the devs have not put in the game too, even when they have the homeworlds on the sector maps, like the "Fesarians". And yes, the huge globular clustership from The Corbomite Maneuver is not practical for the same reason Borg cubes and spheres are not practical, but that would not be a problem for a smaller cluster like Balok used as a pilot ship, and it has the advantage of being perfect for the kind of rearranging parts stuff that seems to be popular nowadays (like Book's ship).

Others that (as far as I know of) are not in the game are the Orion Intruder/Scout, the full-size version of the Orion Interceptor, and the Gorn ship in Arena (from TOS-R and ENT), Akritirian Patrol Ship and some other VOY ships, the 26th century Sphere Builder ships and the three-ring Vulcan ship (both from ENT "future" stuff), the original McQuarrie ship (two slight variations of it in fact), and a lot of very nice looking concept ships that ended up being in the far background (like the mothball yards).

There are also TAS ships, some of which need a lot of interpretation, that have loads of potential.

They did adapt the Saucer Separation from concept art from either TOS or the TMP era Connie. Probably both. I think Starfleet Battles talked about Connie Saucer Separation, although that and the concept art for TMP Separation was an absolute last resort as it would require a shipyard to reconnect.

However in Star Trek Beyond we did see the Kelvin Connie had Saucer Separation capability as well, which kinda ties back to that old concept of the Prime Connie being able to do it. Well... at least to those of us who are aware of that detail. Its probably not common knowledge, and was never shown on screen. So canon wise its possible the Prime Connie COULD, but it was never mentioned in anything outside Beta Canon materials.

Have a bunch of wishlist ships but sadly they will never happen because they are not Federation ships and that's all we get these days.

5/3 MW Romulan warbird with cmdr MW seating and lt cmdr Intel.

A 5/2/1 Ferasan escort or 5/1/1 Ferasan raider.

A more tactically focused Orion FDC based on the Corsair hull.

The only reason we were getting Fed style ships more lately was because it was tied in with the current story arc involving the Terran Empire. We'll get non Fed ships.

It's also what 90%+ of the players play. Why make a Romulan ship for a small handful when its the same effort as a Fed ship, or more effort vs putting out another Galaxy or Sovereign which is a quick redo and will sell better? I don't blame em, just sucks

Cross faction flying lead to a massive slow down in non fed ships, there's been constant excuses of it's because of discovery, its because of picard, it's because Terrans etc. It's $$ pure and simple

It's venturing off topic, but another thing they can do is actually give the other factions cornerstone traits/consoles. If the bottom line is what is more important, people will buy ships just for those reasons, regardless of faction.

It will give non-federation players 'modern' ships to play with while still letting federation-exclusive players buy the hottest trinkets they can use on their deluge of existing ship options.

A lot of the older KDF C-Store stuff were hot commodities because of stuff like the Plasmonic Leech, Aceton Assimilator, Orion Interceptors, etc. These days, the opposite is true with being forced to buy a federation ship if you want to use the latest toys on a different faction.

That said, I suspect the real reason ship releases have become so federation-centric is moreso because of something I can't really get into because it would skirt the line of singling out individuals of the development team(I also like them and have enjoyed watching them slowly work through the ranks and at the milestones they've reached along the way).

Kirk actually talks about separating the ship in one of the episodes where the enterprise is being held by the tractor beam/ray beam/ whatever from the planet. he says, "Crack out of there with the main hull" or something to that effect, so saucer separation is canon for the Constitutions

I think that's the one with the
