Have seen combat begin prior to the normal start time several times over the past few weeks while playing Infected Space normal and advanced. This time it seems to be pets that pre-engaged the enemy. Anybody else getting this?
Yup, had this happen a few times in the Infected Space Event PUGs. It appears that ships that launch forward of your ship are the culprits here. Some pets launch to the sides or rear of the vessel and don't seem to be the issue. Maybe our spawn point just needs to be moved back to where the Borg ships at the start aren't in the 18 or so km sensor range of the launched pets.
What I don't know for certain is whether it is the pets or the Borg ships that start the fight. I have seen the pets firing their weapons and the Borg ships moving toward us and firing theirs even as the intro timer is ticking down.

I dunno what's causing this when it happens but it does make TFO impossible to complete (at least if the mobs die before the count down in over) as the trigger that makes the nanite generator attackable never trips and thus you cannot target those.

I'll pass this up the chain.
It does seem to be the most problematic with Carriers in that forward position that launch pets forward, which can end up within weapons range of the enemies. On Advanced and Elite this shouldn't be AS much of a problem due to difficulty scaling, but still it would be a problem... and a potential source for trolling people if it CAN cause the TFO to become stuck. Especially during an event showcasing that TFO.

I've seen someone using what I think was a Trajector Jump whilst the briefing was happening; it's not just pets launching forward.
"You don't want to patrol!? You don't want to escort!? You don't want to defend the Federation's Starbases!? Then why are you flying my Starships!? If you were a Klingon you'd be killed on the spot, but lucky for you.....you WERE in Starfleet. Let's see how New Zealand Penal Colony suits you." Adm A. Necheyev.

It's the starship trait Invasive Maneuvers. It's been broken since day one.. if you activate EPTE and Evasive Maneuvers during the briefing, you launch forward and can move and engage enemies.
Maw of Gre'thor also does this - the skull itself can't reach the borg ships, but the lost souls it spawns as it travels spawn close enough that they can engage the Borg ships.

I've also noted that going at normal Impulse speed towards the initial three Cubes on Advanced I'm firing sooner than I ever remember. Did they move them closer?
Did I miss the memo, but people are going right first instead of left sometimes?

That or sometimes split up and attack both sides at once. Events bring in a lot of people who don't do the traditional fleet runs and so they are more chaotic than non-event runs.

Since they - really - revamped those missions, players in PUGs have been doing that, yes.
For some reason everyone just does different things nowadays.

I think that because of power creep, some people are more confident in their ability to blow through Infected without coordinating their efforts as much. I know for a fact I can pretty much allow people to hit both sides if I was on my TOS Sci flying her Megawell Crossfield. Those Borg ships from the Gate wouldn't be going ANYWHERE as long as I can keep a Grav Well on them. And thanks to traits, I got a mobile, full minute long Angry Red Grav Well with like a 20 km radius or something like that, WITH a chance at aftershock Grav Wells. I do it right, that is 100% uptime on the Grav Well. Throw in Torp Spread Gravimetric Photons... I can lock down the center like there's no tomorrow, giving free reign to my team to hit both sides.
Its Power Creep. We are so powerful compared to that particular TFO that tactics aren't as much of a factor anymore because we can literally bumrush Blitz the thing and win. Tactics might still be a thing in Elite, and are helpful in Advanced, but nowadays Normal is almost literally faceroll win.
I hope no one gets into trouble for activating powers like these…
Also, most of my runs so far this event, I go right and everyone else goes left, and I still finish the 4 generators and the shield before the left side does… I have a grav-well toon built much like yours, rattler2, but I don’t use it often in pugs because holding down the center doesn’t speed it up as much… Some days I’m just looking to get thru the daily as quick as possible (like on weekdays), unlike weekends where I can take my time…

Yeah, I get that more people might be able to solo the mission or at least half of it.
But usually the people trying it don't get even close to succeeding. Not least because they usually blow up one generator and then engage the spheres/cube above the transformer...
to be fair...it ain't even a problem. It won't break the objectives.
Except it does break objectives, if the initial group of mobs gets destroyed before the briefing is over the shields on the nanite generators won't drop making them impossible to destroy as you can't target them (and by extension the TFO impossible to complete as one the primary objectives is to destroy the generators).

Which traits are these? I have the, uhh, whatsit called, Enhanced Gravity Well? The one from the Pilot Escorts that makes it last 40 seconds with 40 second timeout? What else are you using?

At least that was the case until I last cared to use it. No idea whether that's fixed by now.
