Zen Charge Bonus for Black Friday sale

captaincelestialcaptaincelestial Member Posts: 1,925 Arc User
I found it odd that there wasn't going to be a Zen Charge bonus for $50 and $200 purchases, though I'm glad that, according to the Black Friday chart, that smaller amounts, like $10 is going to get a bonus.

https://www.arcgames.com/en/games/star-trek-online/news/detail/11480813

But.... When I went to purchase Zen, it's only showing the usual bonuses for $50 (5000+300 bonus), $100 (10000+1000), and $200 (20000+3000). The Zen Charge bonus is supposed to be 30% bonus on Charges of 10, 20, and $100.

Is it supposed to be delayed, is it bugged, or did someone forget to turn it on?

Only one I'm not seeing a bonus on is the $20. I see the one for $10, and every other option. My guess is that its there, just not visible?

The bonuses show just before purchase confirmation.

The Bonus is on the $10, $100, and $200. None on the $20, and the standard 300 on the $50.

Confirmed. No bonus for the $20. Seems odd to exclude that.

There really isn't one for the $50 either. They probably meant to say $200 instead of $20 but as every Announcement needs to have an error, we got one.

By the way, the Neverwinter Announcement for the
Charge Bonus shows the $10, $100, and $200 as we've noted.

It might have made things simpler if they just did a straight 30% bonus Zen sale instead of this targeted amount thing.

That zen charge bonus is a bit of everywhere imo

    I agree much simpler.

When I tried earlier today it was giving me a bonus of 300 zen for a $10 purchase, no bonus for a $20 purchase, but also only a 300 zen again for a $50 purchase so F that.

This was to be my first zen purchase in a long time but the erratic bonuses now turned into saving me money.

I had also seen in game chat that if you try to buy the $10 amount multiple times Cryptic will lock your zen use for like a week pretty much TRIBBLE you over for the intention to spend it durting the sale.

That's an automated security measure, irrespective of amount.

I was able to buy the $10 amount 4 times with no issues. I'm not sure how many times would cause the lock though.

Good, & promising to know, about your success, but you probably, & probably everyone has better Cryptic luck than me lol.

If I would have known about this ripoff before I bought $20 worth of zen I would have done $10 twice instead. Now I cannot buy what I bought the zen to get in the first place. It is absolutely disgusting.

So I just tried multiple transactions of $10 in order to try and buy $60 worth of Zen. The first one went through just fine, but then the second one went into "Pending transaction" review. I opened up a ticket and explained that this wouldn't be an issue if they only provided a flat 30% bonus to any transaction amount over $10.

With regards to the Zen lock after purchase - what does that actually mean? The Zen will sit in your account, but you're unable to actually buy anything with it? If so, then how does this work w/ a time-based sale like Black Friday?

That's what my concern & point was after I heard of that issue. Cryptic is willing to take your money during a charge bonus & sale time then deny you the chance to utilize it on the sale for which you purchased it lol.

As someone stated earlier Cryptic should've just made it far simpler & have a % bonus across all the amounts.

it doesn't outright stop you from spending it - unless you intended to 'spend' it on the dilex...that is not allowed during a probationary period, and anything you buy with tainted zen that isn't already account-bound will end up so for a period of days (which seems to vary - for me, buying from EGS it's 7 days) - and in the case of things that are used to get other things, like master keys, anything you get with the former will also end up account-bound for that same period

though, after that period is over, it SHOULD revert to whatever bind status it normally has

Just heads-up, a couple of my nephew's friends bought single $10 amounts for the bonus and had intended to exchange it on the DilEx for Dil (since it was at 493 at the time and they wanted the extra Dil). Even a single purchase of $10 got locked, despite their accounts being months old, level 65, and having made previous Zen purchases. No need for multiple $10 purchases, apparently any purchase is locked from the DilEx for at least a week.

Ah okay, for myself then, that isn't so bad. I wasn't planning on playing the Dilithium Exchange & was planning on Store purchase. I usually only use the Dilithium Exchange to round up or down zen amount when decent ratio. Thanks for the details about this. Still think someone at Cryptic thrives on creating confusion lol.

I've had this happen when changing payment information. Usually the first purchase will go through if your payment info is unchanged.

One possibility is that they seemed to have changed how logins work slightly, and if you get the email pin thing it seems to trigger that zen hold now. It makes sense I suppose since a "new machine" could be some hacker somewhere, so if you have an ISP that assigns you dynamic IP addresses instead of a fixed one you will probably see a lot of holds.

Thanks everyone for the clarification on the Zen lock and how it should work. Thankfully the account lock doesn't impact me as I'm only planning on using the Zen to buy ships and items for myself.

Just a quick update - I was able to make 6 individual purchases of $10 each. The 2nd one was in pending review over an hour, but then thankfully the rest came through within 10-15min of wait time. I did wait for each transaction to go through before putting in the next one.

Good to know it worked, even with the wait time, for you! I want to try just not sure I'm that bold lol.
