massive lag and server issues

over the last few weeks ive been getting nothing but rubber banded in ground and sector space social maps, but over the last 2-3 days in TFO ive been getting a lot of server not responding and not been able to move or shot properly.
ive seen a dev state on reddit that its a known issue, for me its getting worse, and from what ive seen in NoP Public Service channel im not the only one that thinks this.

what if any thing is been done about this?
because im thinking its time to take the £30-£40 I spend monthly on this game elsewhere.

Yup its getting horrible now..The ping skyrockets at akamai tech servers..And the team at cryptic dont seem to be bothered with it right now..The game has become unplayable for me and quite a few on zone chat are saying the same..The dev team is not even responding on the forums about this despite it being mentioned a dozen times..Is it time up for STO?? Dont want to give up on this game after 8 years but this may very well be a tipping point to leave..

This is just from my own experience: I too was having more than usual lag & disconnects (DCs), which I used to very rarely have, & over the last couple of weeks was getting worse it seemed. I also think that ever since Cryptic did that Akamai server thing months ago it hasn't got better but has got worse.

As I said this is just my from my experience so mileage may vary. I was 'testing' stuff out 1 day while I was dabbling with STO & I was still having lag & DC issues. For reference I log-in via through Arc & the STO launcher. One time after doing so I popped-out of STO & took a look at my Task Manager: Applications (Apps). The usual suspects were there, but also there was a couple of new suspects under the: Arc Update. There was Arc, Arc Chat, Arc OSBrowser, & crashpad-handler.

So, I ended running the Arc Apps & just kept my Game Client running & it has been pretty smooth sailing ever since for the last few days.

I'd recommend, even though I don't guarantee, as I do log-in through Arc & the STO launcher as normal. Once at character select screen or even have a character at a STO map screen just tab out to Windows. Ctrl_Alt+Delete for the Task Manager & end the Arc Apps. There's usually 1 near the top & maybe 1 or 2 more a little bit further down like another ArcOSBrowser. Keep the Game Client running of course & then just pop back into STO & enjoy hopefully. I know it isn't the most technical instructions, but for me it has been working lots better. Good luck!

Drats, did you go through & redo that process again when you logged back on? Each time I log-into STO now I have to redo that minor process & it is still working for me today.

 Nothing works for me so far. I have:

    Flushed the DNS
    Powercycled my router and modem
Tried using the proxy, and also tried without
Did as was suggested by killing the apps except the game client

Nothing seems to work at this point. I am lucky if I can even complete an STF :/
Also, for me too it has been getting worse over the past few days

    >>>>>>>
    EDIT UPDATE
    >>>>>>>

The problem is the client itself. The internet ONLY goes down when ingame for 3 pings and then goes back online. So the client is actually the problem and the cause at the same time. Otherwise, my internet never drops. The client causes issues with the wifi card.

    >>>>>>>
    EDIT UPDATE 2
    >>>>>>>

Also, the issue seems to start at around 17:00 EST and I am guessing corrects itself at around 22:00 EST, as I never have issues before or after those times.

STO has had rubberbanding since forever. I think they started with rubberbanding and then built the game around it. Pretty sure how that went.

However, the past week or so I have been having such severe sever not responding issues and rubberbanding that I simply am unable to reliably play the game. 10 seconds of everything stopped followed by 3 seconds of watch my ship die as it all catches up is terrible and too regular.

EVERY single TFO I run now has a minimum of 3 Server Not Responding events. Earth Space Dock sees me running the same rout 4 times over before I actually get to the bank due to rubberbanding.

It has led me to spend more and more time with other games sadly. I really enjoy STO. I do hope that if enough people constantly speak out, that maybe after 10 years of listening to us complain non-stop, they'll try and fix something.

I ain't looking for perfect, just playable.

im still having server issues about 25% of the time when I join a tfo I will will be moving and shooting then all of a sudden my ship becomes unresponsive wont turn and wont shot. I will also get a server not responding message but I can see everything happening around me and people chatting in NoP
please look in to this problem :|

Try playing this on a console...it lags and rubber bands 10x worse....most days its unplayable for us console users....and they are too Disc focused...the 3rd season is probably its last....what will they do then?....the writings on the wall peeps....

I just got disconnected a few minutes ago. Myself, and many others have ran the traceroute to the servers. Based on the CONSISTENT results of very high ping rates going through Akamai Technologies...I'd be inclined to say THAT is where the problem lies. Unfortunately it seems that Cryptic is just gonna play stupid and continue saying "well we're not sure what is causing the problem...."
  • sarpek138sarpek138 Member Posts: 9 Arc User
This problem is with this game only. I play GTA5 online and don't have problems like this. I do think it could be the STO servers but could it be other players and there lagging adding to it.

I was playing today and didn't notice it much, but last time I was on Nimbus III (with a bunch of other players) it was really bad, go stand next to a claimable barrow and it took a couple seconds to show as retrievable. If I play a solo mission don't even notice this problem much. But sense everything is sync with the server and other players, I think it's all the lagging from all.
The Troll for reporting bugs and not getting responses. I'm a life time subscribe that has played this game for about 4 years now, spend money all the time and no one cares to fix the bugs.

Just bounced around KDF Academy, rubber ball like. Only 11 players on the map to.

I've found myself playing far less, the rubberbanding is ruining my enjoyment as well as the constant power tray misfires.

What will Cryptic do about this issue ? Sweet FA as its been ongoing now for nearly a year or more

Well I can tell ya, they won't fix it. They won't even fix texturing issues on several maps that have been there since day one.
  • jtkirk15jtkirk15 Member Posts: 16 Arc User
I don't seem to be having any problems in space maps, but I am having severe rubber banding issues on Ground Maps and this has been going on for a couple of weeks. Nimbus is the worse, but even ground story missions seem to be affected. Yesterday, I played the last mission in the Gamma arc and it was virtually unplayable. Server disconnection after server disconnection. It was like play for 4 seconds - stall - go back to where I was 3 seconds ago - start - stall etc. etc; It was that bad, I just left the mission incomplete. I appreciate in this mission there is a lot going off in the ground maps parts, but even so, it has to be playable.
  • Get ready to try rubberbanding your way through the winter and anniversary events. Maybe buy a bunch of zen and keys and ships while you're at it lol.

    Adding to this.

Lots of new ships, a few new episodes, new account events. All OK, but can I ask that instead of adding more and more of this type of content, could you please fix the lag spikes and rubber banding that everyone in the game is experiencing daily?

Does anyone know if there is even an attempt being made to mix these issues? With the Winter Event update the game has basically become unplayable. Should I contact Cryptic directly about this? Any advice would be greatly appreciated. I am literally being disconnected from the server after 10 to 15 seconds.

The lag/freezing/rubberbanding/misfires all crept into my gaming after they completed the maintenance across all Perfect World titles 11/12 months ago. The tracert for myself always spikes when my connection passes through Akamai Technologies. This tracert is actually quite low usually hits high 100's to mid 200's

Was having some significant lag issues for the past week up until today. Started out fine today then a server reboot was completed and now its back to the same significant lag issues. Lag issues include loading of transitions between locations and content, some significant lagging in multiplayer environments like battle zones and occasional kick-outs and re-logins after server drops me out on a transition. Looks like I am in the same boat... :(

It's BEEN the same boat for a while. Getting bottlenecked somewhere in the maze that is Akamai Technologies. I'm trying REAL hard to enjoy the winter event...but it's extremely difficult when I'm experiencing lag with absolutely EVERY aspect this game currently has to offer. I can't do regular missions (space OR ground), or be ANYWHERE without getting rubberbanded.
  • I've found that if I remain stationary and don't attempt map transfers the rubberbanding isn't as noticable

If I access the desktop icon or the short cut in the game folder to the STO launcher and right click and select properties and compatibility, would changing the version of windows say from the default Windows 8 to Windows 7 make any difference ?.

Hello rubber banding my old friend, time to bounce around the battlezone again, where are all my bug reports going?, out of love with this game I am falling, As Cryptic fail to acknowledge a problem exists, Shakes an angry fist, And from Support all I'm hearing are the sounds of silence.

I'm chiming in to agree that connection issues in this game, for me, has become indescribably bad. It is now completely unplayable. Completing enough of the Voth Breach event to acquire the event reward was agonizing. Attempts to log in will fail over 90% of the time, at any time of the day. When I do manage to get in game, any TFO is impossible for me to contribute to, since I just rubber-band for 15 minutes while my ship catches up to actions and inputs entered 5 minutes ago. "Server Not Responding".

pathping shows somewhere just dropping 73% of their packets?

348ms ping is normal for me (from Asia) but that packet loss is not. It shows no signs of abating in the 1-2 months its been happening. I cannot justify spending money or time if the game is inaccessible, even if exciting new content keeps being added. Its been fun but I guess this is it for me. Just leaving behind diagnostic data in the hope it helps things get better.
