I do indulge in a little bit of space Barbie when it comes to STO, one thing that bothers me is that both the TOS and Discovery captains use the basic 25th century photonic fleet. I realize back when the factions were released (Or at least when it comes to TOS, think all of these models were live when the Discovery faction launched) and it isn't a emergency...but it would be cool IMO to see them updated one day.
For TOS they now have ships to fill every class.
Frigate: Pioneer or Perseus Class
Cruiser: Constitution or Gemini Class
Battleship: Atlas Class
For Discovery
Frigate: Malachowski, Magee, or Engle Class
Cruiser: Shepard or Constitution Class
Battleship: Europa or Cardenas Class
Can't have a honest conversation because of a white knight with power
They work the way they do because TOS and ST:D toons travel to the future and become 25th century officers. Sure it hurts immersion if you're trying to roleplay a particular era, but I doubt it's ever going to change.

I mean they're photonic ships so they could be anything....and to be honest, depending on who you're fighting I think it would be a little more confusing if you saw relics from a few centuries ago show up and start pounding on you

Yeah, they should really be customizable.
Fleet Support, too.
Being honest, the original Photonic Fleet was from a episode of Voyager and they didn't even use Starfleet ships

I'm sorry to tell you this, but they still use the TOS and TRIBBLE beam up animations. Along with the sound effects for some powers, and effects for scanning. The only excuse, is that the devs didn't feel like doing it

The animations are baked into the faction choice, what I said is the exact explanation the devs gave when people asked about this when AoY launched.
All they have to do is bake it into action choices too. Make photonic fleet 23rd and Photonic Fleet disco powers
If I had it my way there would be several extra photonic fleet abilities available to all fed factions, with a shared cooldown to prevent you from using more than one:
1) Photonic Fleet - Enterprise Era
2) Photonic Fleet - Discovery Era
3) Photonic Fleet - TOS Era
4) Photonic Fleet - TMP Era
5) Photonic Fleet - TNG Era
6) Photonic Fleet - Future Era
7) Photonic Fleet - Kelvin Timeline

I would do the same for security team as well.
While that would be cool, I suspect that it would also be a lot of coding. Also everyone having the same photonic ships showing up takes less model overhead at runtime and TFOs get to be real lag fests as it is.

Norway and Yeager dammit... I still want my Typhoon and Jupiter though. JJ Trek The Kelvin Timeline is just Trek and it's fully canon... get over it. But I still prefer TAR.

DSC chars get Discovery Security Escorts. Clearly, the limitation isn't that hard to circumvent
+1 from me: Faction appropriate Photonic, Security Escorts (TOS chars don't get that) and fleet support!

I think in terms of the Discovery Security Escorts, its more a matter of they're more familiar with the code for it than they were with TOS Captains, and we actually see more Discovery NPCs with rifles than we do TOS.
I can't take it anymore! Could everyone just chill out for two seconds before something CRAZY happens again?!

From what I've seen, the animations are heading for more of a generic direction.
There was a time when you use a hand weapon (like a phaser) that was appropriate for your faction (or sub-faction). So if you were a AoY/TOS character, you whipped out your TOS phaser to cut/weld/melt objects. When doing the Implausible mission, your character, regardless of faction, you use the same phaser that's usually used by 2409 Starfleet characters.
I know they have bigger fish to fry, but these faction specific animations/emotes deserve at least a looking into.

Thought they fixed that...
And using the wrong weapon is a common animation error that crops up every once in a while.

Some Sopwith Camels or Attack Helos would be cool.
