I sure hope there will be a filter to allow players to opt out of certain queues they have no any interest in playing or I see this as being a big failure by putting platers in rarely played queues just so people play them
This program, though reasonably normal at times, seems to have a strong affinity to classes belonging to the Cat 2.0 program. Questerius 2.7 will break down on occasion, resulting in garbage and nonsense messages whenever it occurs. Usually a hard reboot or pulling the plug solves the problem when that happens.
Get the feeling that the Tier 6 rep is going to take surprising amounts of Marks to finish.
Hence: all these "Events" and additional Marks in this Random Queue system.

Inability to at least filter Space/Ground just made me lose interest.
I would give the reasons, but why bother? Sounds like they have already made up their minds without player feedback..
As usual.
100% agreed, feedback my TRIBBLE ...
All this thing smells like a trick inside a trick. First trick is to give players the impression that they actually have a say in all this and the second trick is to give the impression that they are playing something new and exciting instead of same old things.
I like the idea. The queue system while standard, leaves room for something else desired. All I ask, is when you’re fixing the TFO system, you fix the Omega and MACO alternate armor style requirements regarding the accolade with the title of “MACO Commander” (I believe it’s called). I really miss not being able to complete them and receive that and playing elite queues of some of those missions.
For me the DUNGEONS of STO always where a bit of a pity since they are so removed from their corresponding storry lines....STO instances often are quite out of context and much too casual for me.
I was actually quite disapointed when the former Borg STFs got separated into space and ground queues and where severed from their mandatory intro missions.
For me this removed any reason to do ground borg missions, since I just hate the ground fighting system in STO where you fight as a grunt even when you are a 4 stars Admiral. It's eyerolling, headaching ridiculous.
As it is now the Queued missions are simply means to generate marks to get recources to buy stuff even when you don't have played the rest of the content they belong to or that you don't even like.
Also there is no further need to play those missions when you got their marks reward and sets...if you want the set at all that is.
So a RNG system is just counter to that purpose. Why randomly playing something that's sole purpose is to generate a specific recource you want to do something specific.
If a certain mission would be just a step on the way, a means to get stuff you need to get further because there is more content behind that door to explore....Well this would be a revival of old queues for me.
If you would need them to go further down a road.
But for me there is no incentive to do RNG stuff where I am not forced to do it to get something I could get otherwise.
For me RNGing is just the oposite of what I would want.
It is a good idea that hopefully is going to revive older queues (TFOs I mean ). But, more marks? More dilithium? I wish you had been a little bit more creative when it comes to rewards for random TFOs. A new space and ground set, or space/ground weapons that cannot be obtained otherwise. Something unique instead of the same old generic marks/dilithium rewards...
While I agree with you in theory, it wouldn't work in practice. Once people finished the set, they'd stop random queueing. After a month, this system would be just as dead as the content it's trying to revitalize. On the other hand, marks/dilithium is what people actually need all the time.
> @where2r1 said: > Get the feeling that the Tier 6 rep is going to take surprising amounts of Marks to finish. > Hence: all these "Events" and additional Marks in this Random Queue system.
Pros: This will ensure equal mark earning across the board, assuming nobody has tier 6 by way of manually joining the same queue.
Bigger chance to do some of the older queues I enjoyed most.
I have seen people post in here the same thing I have to say, but I 100% will never use this feature unless they separate space and ground into 2 separate queues.
1. I hate ground combat cause it's rather clunky to me
2. I have different passives set up for space and ground and you can not change in the middle of a mission, so if I get thrown into a ground mission with space passives, I'm gonna have a bad time especially if I queue for advanced
3. People don't play certain missions cause the mission is either very bad or just down right annoying to even bother doing.
Side note: Better rewards are needed. Not this tiered bonus package, which is kinda scummy to make it tiered anyways. Why not just have it on a timer? Once per x time you get a big bonus, but each queue after that it's smaller.
This is a great plan, but let's not TRIBBLE it up before it's even launched with bad choices.
Including both Ground+Space is absolutely intentional, and exceedingly unlikely to be altered. But addressing Build/Spec concerns that stem from this choice is definitely on my list for further review.
Read the feedback, no one wants this.
Let me ask you something Bort.. is this just about you? or is this system supposed to be designed for the players? for the customers?
You're about to introduce yet another system that no one will like.. that no one will use. If this is set in stone and you won't budge on it at all.. then lets just cut out the middle man, consider this thing a failure, you can stop working on it now and put your time into something else. Either listen to player feedback, or don't bother at all.
We're not going to use this thing. Is that clear enough?

Eh, actually, considering Cryptic's track record, I'd rather have them work on something completely useless, but ultimately mostly harmless, than a new S13 like abomination. If Bort considers the intactness of his own ego to be more important than the number of players using the new system (or metrics, as it's popular to say), then so be it - let him have his own right. As long as it doesn't break something (oh well, who am fooling, it probably will), it can just be there and waste the capacity of their servers.
I am going to use it, stop claiming yo speak for everyone.
Says the person who claimed about a year ago that he queues for AND completes elite space pugs regularly without any problems. And saw no decrease in activity after S13. So excuse me while I take your claims with a huge pile of salt. I mean, if game in your alternate universe is doing so well, why on earth would you even need to participate in that random TFO system?
Question: Why is CCA so popular? Do people need Nukara marks that bad? Is the story so fantastic that everyone has to play it or they cry? I kinda doubt it. I'm guessing the answer for most people is they need Fleet Marks fast. 2 min or less to get your daily Fleet Marks and move along. I can get almost double that in UAA if (and its a big if) the team knows what they are doing. Time is money folks we have figured that out so we will only spent our time on something if it is worth the money aka rewards. I'll only play a 15 min "TFO" if I need Elite Marks I got way too much other things to do in game. But that's just my playstyle.
My two cents, and please read these posts Jeremy.
I don't understand the need for game devs to make everything random.
I wan't to play what I want to play, not some random Space or Ground queue.
I don't see how any type of "re-branding" a PvE queue will make it any different.
In the end we are still waiting for others to play content, and now your adding content that will be random.
Sounds like a loose loose. Especially if get a ground Borg PvE, or the bugged out Rescue Romulan Ships.
If you are really going to do this, please make it so we can change our specialization in the small 30 second window before the mission starts. I don't want to be specked for space and get a ground mission or vice versa.
(Note we still can't change that on our bridges either)
I want to be able to play what I want when I want, no waiting, no groups, just GO.
I don't want to waste time sitting waiting for a queue to popup to play a PvE I want to do.
Even when it does finally popup it doesn't go because someone queued for multiple ones and left.
So in the end I still end up just sitting there waiting to play a game.
All I can seam to play these days are Crystal, and the Red Alerts.
I would play Colony (ground), & Breaking the Planet (ground) all day every day, those were / are so much fun to me, also the one with the Elachi space station (ground) again.
But of course they never queue up, no one in my fleet likes those, and forget doing shout outs in ESD or DS9.
What I think needs to happen is to have teams fill out with NPC, or my Boffs (if ground) so we can just play content if it doesn't queue up in say 1 min. That way I can still play what I wan't to play, instead of never being able to play it at all.
I play STO with my wife, so we're always together, if we could just queue up for Colony, having our Boffs fill out the team, man that would be nice. Just like Story missions are. In space just fill the slots with NPCs with our same DPS output, boom fun on our terms. Reduce the rewards for those instances, based on "real" players in team, at least I'd be able to play them. (since personal queues were changed & now require min. players)
Lastly is the rewards, great your increasing them, but it's still Dill ORE (not refined), and marks.
You NEED to change that up, I have over 200k Ore, 3 million refined Ore, 10k Zen, and more marks in all reputations that I can ever use, and millions in EC. We need some trade in or new currency to spend. Maybe give out Lock Box Keys, Lobi Crystals, Free to open Loot Boxes, Zen Store discounts, free Dill store items, Old expired can't get anymore items like photonic sci Boff, unearned Summer event shipts, or those semi yearly Devices you get for playing some missions over again, something other then the normal bla.
PS, make the Elachi gate always available, and Choice Marks really Choice Marks for all Reputations.
Edit: Had this in my thoughts but forgot to type it.
If going to have random space or ground, implement a duel trait & specialization system.
Where we can select whole entire traits specific to ground along with the 2 specializations.
Then do the same for space, select all my space traits & 2 specializations.
This way we are fully kited out for both theaters.
Works for SWTOR too, they've always had all flashpoints (TFOs) selected by default. If you want to do a specific flashpoint, you un-select the others. I remember the angst about the level cap increase to 65 but I think we all survived.
Primary/Secondary Specializations for Space and for Ground
Separate lines for Active Reputation Traits Space and Ground like they did with Personal Traits.
They may need to remove the Cooldown Timer for the Queues, I mean TFOs. Being random, you could end up in the same one that you were just in.

Great post sir, i agree 100%.
Waiting time and then low rewards are the things that made me STOP playing ques altogether. I'd happy fail having 4 boots with me in any stf then wait 10+ minutes for something to pop. I very much liked competitive but getting 10 people can be impossible most of the time.
Imo the big reason they don't wanna split ground and space is that ground ques are more rewarding and take less time to do, so there is the possibility for people to farm random ground TFO and get resources faster ( while actually enjoying the game i might add ), a thing that in excellently undesirable for the devs.
Like many other people, I'm a bit skeptical of joining a random TFO and not knowing whether I'll be doing a ground or a space mission, because e.g. the Strategist specialisation is a space-only set of abilities and wouldn't be very useful in a ground scenario.
1) Which PvE queues /TFOs do I avoid?
I avoid any and all small craft missions because I cannot see my shuttle, anything indoors because I cannot see where I am going (up or down?). So, The Vault (shuttle event) and The Breach are no-gos.
The reason for my ingame blindness/controlled-flight-into-terrain is, I have real life vision and spatial orientation issues that make some of the content in STO very, very difficult. Some story line content is pretty near impossible for me (Tenebris Torquent) because the texture of the walls, ground and ceiling look the same to me and I get lost/bump into walls/get stuck/just can't manage that jump in an EV suit because I cannot see where I'm supposed to land. Whoever on the dev team thought of adding a "Skip" button to story missions has my neverending deepest gratitude.
2) Which PvE queues / TFOs would I like to be able to play more often?
Dranuur Gauntlet, anything Borg (my favourites!), anything with a fixed object to defend/attack. I haven't tried ground TFOs yet, because while I enjoy ground missions, I move slowly.
3) What would make me reluctant to queue for random content?
I'd be afraid to end up in a mission that I cannot do for reasons I have no control over - if I cannot see where I'm going or what I'm doing, I am not doing the team any good.
Bottom line: I hope there will still be a way to wait for specific TFOs because I'd hate being the AFKer.

I'm not sure what viable means. If viable means if they do those things it would technically work mechanics wise it might. If viable means successfully work meaning people will love it and revive the old TFO's I'm not sure. For me it's all about time. Cryptic has me running around grinding all day trying to do my dailies. Admirality missions, doff missions, fleet projects (colony provisions since they added that huge monster), R&D, the new gamma rep, on and on and on. I have so much WORK to do (game wise) and I mean that literally that I can't enjoy the content of the game. I just try to find the FASTEST way to get all these CHORES done. For example CCA is a fast way to get fleet marks I used to do Defera hards for my fleet marks but thats a half hour minimum so I quit doing it. I don't have the time, and that's playing 8 hrs a day. I would love to try TFO's that I haven't tried but to be able to do it the rewards have to be worth it to me and it doesn't look like they will be.
If they fix all your suggestions above and seperate the space and ground it might get people to try it for awhile but be successful I'm not sure. We will see. I'm gonna give it a shot cause it's a novelty. I think we all agree with your list though so maybe they will address it.
I'm sorry, but if the game is work to you that you don't enjoy it is really not Cryptic's fault. Nobody forces you to complete all these "chores" every day.

STO will survive this.
LOL, that's not even remotely comparable. SWTOR's space missions are single-player only and, as such, aren't even on the queueable content, so there's no problem there with people queueing for random and ending up in an Archenar Interception instead of an Hammer Station.
Even the PvP queues are different, as they should be, because the day they think about joining them together? All hell is gonna break loose.
And of course if you want to do a specific FP/Uprising you unselect the others, but that has got nothing to do with the topic of this thread, which is Random Task Force Operations. Key word: random. You unselect even one FP? No random for you, sir.
We already can queue for whatever STF we want to do and there's no problem there, except for the fact that some are pretty much impossible to do unless you go with a full group already.
If the goal of this all charade is to make people play content that never gets played, then they need to work on that content, not "invent" a "new" system - again, not new at all - just so they can say "see? see? we gave you a new toy but you don't use it!" when the data analysis will show exactly how much excited players are about it, then they'd better spend the time to make a worthwile new season.

The lack of borticus & whomever at Cryptic not realizing the needed separation of space & ground specs for better STO play after this announcement illustrates how out of touch some of them are with STO or this decision might already be final in their minds, based upon how borticus is reacting anyways, & they're just going through the motions of asking for feedback in an attempt to make it more palatable.
It is still going to be queuing just with another title. Why not just add the randomness option in addition to the already established system? Want a particular Task Force Operation? Fine select it & get a normal amount of rewards. Don't mind whichever TFO you get queued into it? That's fine too, & you'll receive even more rewards for it compared to a selected one.
I'm not a fan of referencing WoW, but I remember always being impressed & liking WoW's dungeon's selectable with randomness options & it included a bonus for the random option while not diluting the selected if wanted. It was simple too.
Some at Cryptic claim they're trying to make STO better & more fun to play, but then don't ignore any dissenting views about how to make it more fun or keep it fun. I was hoping Cryptic was making a turn towards being more inclusive with their last couple of announcements compared to their last couple of years focus of exclusive mind-set. This is beginning to sound more like some project being done just for job justification than an attempt at a better quality of life improvement for STO. Just add this randomness option.

I'm convinced.. let him waste his time on this doomed to fail joke of a system.
Better that then bringing about another S13 Apocalypse.
Imo the big reason they don't wanna split ground and space is that ground ques are more rewarding and take less time to do, so there is the possibility for people to farm random ground TFO and get resources faster ( while actually enjoying the game i might add ), a thing that in excellently undesirable for the devs.
if the player selects only Space or only Ground, the normal RNG for bonus rewards
if the player select both, change the RNG to guarantee at least Very Rare or higher for bonus Rewards
this would give more incentive to at least try the full system.
(you could also throw exclusive items into the Epic Box. Maybe items normally only obtained via lockboxes like weapon packs or Boosts)
This too^
1) Which PvE queues /TFOs do I avoid?

Ci sono tre tipi di giocatori:
- quelli a cui non va mai bene niente... e vanno sul forum a trollare;
- quelli che sono talmente imbesuiti da credere a qualunque cosa i dev dicano, perfino che la luna è fatta di formaggio... e vanno sul forum a trollare;
- quelli che credono a quello a cui è giusto credere, sono d'accordo con quello con cui è giusto essere d'accordo e sono critici con quello che non va;
