I hope like everyone in here they do a romulan variant, whether it be with this initial release or the pack or down the road.
Some folks need to realize as well it takes time and resources to put a ship together. With the new Age of Discovery stuff right around the corner alot resources I'm sure are tied up. IMO some folks in here have some unrealistic expectations with what they want the devs to do in such a short time. To be able to crank Jem'hadar veteran ships, Age of Discovery, and the ton of other stuff I've seen named in here, they would need to have the manpower and resources of a company as large as Blizzard who make WoW and Diablo. Cryptic simply doesn't have that as much as we all wish they did.
Seeing as badly as people want it I would be willing to bet a 10 pack of lockbox keys that the rest of the dev staff have been told how much folks want a romulan variant. If enough folks ask politely we may very well get one. Also willing to bribe with latinum, just saying.
"Someone once told me that time was a predator that stalked us all our lives. I rather believe that time is a companion who goes with us on the journey and reminds us to cherish every moment, because it will never come again." - Jean Luc Picard in Star Trek Generations
if they could get away with not making kdf ships and still make enough money to get all the actors they want, they would, hell they did spend two years not making kdf ships. or if they could sell fed ships to kdf and have them actually buy em, they'ld stop making kdf ships in a heartbeat.
The only reason why we're even getting a KDF variant is so they can point to it when KDF-aligned Romulans and Jem'hadar ask where their Recon Destroyer is. The announcement that Romulan and Jem'hadar players could fly their allies ships was actually a small boon to the KDF, since it may have insured that they will at least still be getting new Klingon ships ever now and then.
But yeah, if Cryptic could get away with it at this point, they'd only make Federation ships, with the odd non-Fed ship possibly only showing up in lockboxes and R&D promo boxes. I'm actually kind of surprised they haven't yet tried to lump everyone together under the Federation banner; they've already laid the groundwork for such a merger in the story. Maybe they plan on doing so slowly, to minimize the consternation. Small steps...like not bothering with making new Romulan or Dominion ships anymore, for example.
I think, as it was so long ago, that someone from the Dev team said that actually merging the KDF into the Feds would be nigh-impossible because of the whole "red/blue faction" thing.
Basically, the core of the engine thinks that there is always going to be two (and only two) "sides" for core PvP related action, and attempting to modify this much much more than what they already (cross faction queueing and sub-factions) have could blow the game apart to the point that a whole new engine might be necessary.
And on the "other" subject matter of the thread, I vaguely recall there being "enough" Fed-only releases already to "justify" whatever they want to do with that - the fact that they willingly came up with a KDF variant shows that people want to support both factions of the game, but the metrics and therefore will make it a bit of a tougher sell to bean counters...
Detecting big-time "anti-old-school" bias here. NX? Lobi. TOS/TMP Connie? Super-promotion-box. (aka the two hardest ways to get ships) Excelsior & all 3 TNG "big hero" ships? C-Store. Please Equalize...

OK, I am gonna say something that is probably gonna get me flamed on, but oh well, it has happened before, and it will happen again.
Temporally circular story arcs are mundane and inane by now.
Let's face it. We have already had a complete arc in game about temporal manipulation. NOW we have to go BACK to the Fed/KDF war all in the name of the game being able to continue development. Just how in the name of Grethor are they gonna try to tie this up into one neat and tidy little package? I, personally, do not see them being able to do this.
The fact that they have failed to design a Romulan variant in this pack make it feel to a number of players that the time and money they have invested into their Romulan characters has been for naught with how this bundle is being promoted. I am among those that feel this way. I have Romulan and Reman characters of all career paths because I find their stories more interesting, their abilities more of a challenge to pull off correctly for best results, their ships more aesthetically pleasing.
While I have seen the new series, I do NOT feel that including it in the game where it would have to be located currently is doing ANY of the player base any justice, nor does it make a lick of sense in my books.
Yes, temporal mechanics has been a recurring theme in all of the iterations of the show, but to make it a trope within the game as well speaks to a lack being able to present a creative alternative to the license holders in my personal opinion.
As I said, these are my opinions and do not necessarily reflect the thoughts/opinions/ideas of others.

Too many characters to list but still adding more.......The addiction to this game is real
Well if cryptic gave us a cut down version of the D7 for the Romulans i think all would be forgiven.
It does not need kick TRIBBLE stats either.Just a match say for the New Orleans in this bundle.
Plus the model already exists, just needs Romulan livery.
So how about giving us the Khenn Cruiser as our T6.
Its not the D7-so how about it cryptic.
Subnote-would be nice to get the KDF a little jealous,no offense intended.
I'm tired of the fearmongering, and I was irritable from not eating. Real tired of everything being some conspiracy to do whatever to whatever faction in favor of another.
It's not fearmongering. It's reality.
Romulan players make up less than 10% of the total playerbase. Apparently, we are at the point that 10% is not enough to make Romulan ships cost effective. Combining Romulans, Jem'hadar and Klingons brings you to around 25%, which might be break-even or even profitable for the current state of this old MMO.
Seeing as badly as people want it I would be willing to bet a 10 pack of lockbox keys that the rest of the dev staff have been told how much folks want a romulan variant. If enough folks ask politely we may very well get one. Also willing to bribe with latinum, just saying.
Seeing that the handful of people posting in this thread will never make Romulan ships profitable (unless the price was in the hundreds of US dollars) I doubt your approach will work. Whatever Romulan or Jem'Hadar ships they introduce in the future will probably be limited to special promotions or even lockbox/lobi/research packs (which DO make hundreds of US dollars per ship). However, since Romulans (and Klingons) routinely get shafted on lobi ship releases, this might not even be a hope.
If you want more Romulan ships, you'll have to create more Romulan players. Simple as that.
No T6 kar'fi yet either, but as we never saw that at the logical time to release a carrier triple bundle with the jupiter it'll likely be a very long time coming if ever.
The only roms I fly in fed ships are on my f2p account and only ones I want to get the trait for. Once that's done the ship is discarded.
For these 2 the kdf one isnt the lazy HB pencil and ruler design so not entirely ugly and the fed one would be nice it it lost those baby nacelles glued onto the saucer. It's neck at the front could also be a bit wider to closer match the view from behind.
1. No Warbird. I guess that's what giving Tier 6 ships of their respective factions would do to Romulans (and Jem'Hadar).
2. Still no Tier 6 Vor'Cha. Come on!
#2) isn't gonna happen. a) the Vor'cha bears NO resemblance to anything from Discovery, and doesn't share a design language with it, b) Cruiser/cruiser-alikes are a saturated market. c) the Vor'cha is associated with Klingons who win, having most of it's appearances in DS9, stomping the dogsnot out of Jem'Hadar (who were, in DS9, really quite powerful) and Cardassians (a fan and dev favorite currently cast as a client state of the Federation). Unlike the Negh'var, whose only appearances were in one form of defeat or another (except when shown idle and not doing anything). Klingons are supposed to be many things (stupid, clumsy, awkward, blustery and somewhere on the low side of ineffectual savagery), ergo, it doesn't fit the creative vision.
so no, you're not going to see a Tier Six version of the Vor'cha. The team will do literally anything else first.
Could you please avoid the tinfoil hat "explanations"? They are not helpful*.
The Vor'cha bears NO resemblance to anything from Discovery"
And that new Raptor does? Or thew New Orleans? Come on!
*) Or am I wrong, and @ambassadorkael#6946 will read this and think: "OMG, we have made our players mad because we didn't release a Tier 6 Vor'Cha yet. I should really talk to the team!" If that works, more power to you.
Star Trek Online Advancement: You start with lowbie gear, you end with Lobi gear.
Neat.
In terms of design I am not really a fan of the Andromeda design language. To me they are bit bulky and too angular.
In the end I prefer the TNG styling by quite a margin. The thinner and rounder shapes makes the ship graceful.
Which make this part here:
The situation was a little different this time around as we had not had the New Orleans in the game previous to the “upgraded” version joining the game, so we decided to create both the canon ship and its 25th century counterpart. With STO’s starship customization system, players could choose which look they wanted.
Rather important.
Thank you for doing both styles for one ship.
Looking forward to tomorrows stats and seat layout reveal.
It's that new ship smell for the JH stuff. The honeymoon phase hasn't ended yet, as I see the JH Vanguard dreadnought all over the place still. Almost like it's the JH Scimitar.
The Dread is everywhere not because it's the equivalent of the Scimiturd, but because it's the low-budget starter pack ship that everyone had to get anyway, or else they'd end up with a crippled Jem'haderp character instead.
Funniest response I have seen in a while on the forums.
Seriously, wish that Cryptic could, I don't know, actually poll us again? Remember when they asked us what types of things we would like to see? This was WAYYYY back in years 1 and 2, but even then, we asked for the Romulan faction, and while we got it, we all didn't want a happy do-da faction conforming to standards of Feds or KDF (would have had to given the setup of STO), but a rough and tough Star Empire Centurion.
What I think we ought to have is poll us or at least involve us in decision making. I get we don't have the benefit of "we don't talk about upcoming content", but even if you don't, let us help guide you to our own wallets! My guess is, though weird and whacky, a Rom/Fed pack would have gotten more money than a KDF/Fed pack, even though it wouldn't have made sense!
Just end it now Cryptic. Make the Feds assimilate the Roms and KDF, then once any Fed can play any ship, game over man. Benny can go get the Platinum Chip and Yes Man option will allow us to have our own independent Vegas as it was meant to be. Then maybe we'll see Federation characters who can have species respect tokens, career changing tokens and heaven forbid the T6 Yeager, Nova, Vor'Cha and with Al Rivera out of the front office, CAN WE GET PLAYABLE VORTA!!
Sorry team. Venting years of pay-to-win losses from PvP, hundreds spent on boxes and wasted days of my life grinding for dil which has no real meaning in life. Hope we get regulations on this jazz one day. Will say Kael is a demi-god though. To have survived this long as our Community Manager, and more than that, to not only rep us and champion us the entire way through, more power to you!! I hope the new EP has already given you your well deserved raise, and thanks for asking the ship guys for the Rom / Jem versions. I appreciate that too.
I'm not so much upset by the fact that there would be fewer Romulan ships as by Cryptic attempts at spinning it. If they just came out and said "yes, there would be fewer Romulan ships from now on" with some rough guideline of what to expect (say, full-spec ships and classes with few/none warbirds in them, like carriers) I'd be much more comfortable.
Of course, they probably don't know for sure themselves now, and don't want to make promises they can't keep, but the current vague non-reassurance reassurances just make it sound like they want to go back to pre Legacy of Romulus days when Fed-only ship releases were the norm, rather than an exception...

I know you're not big on DSC's redesigns, but you would probably be amused at some of the intellectual gymnastics going on over on Reddit. There is a large Fed fanbase in paroxysms over the fact that, in DSC, the Klingons have been shown as decisively outmatching the Federation despite their infighting. Ironically they're keen to disregard Discovery because its Klingons are war-winners. I mean, the Klingons win every fight that the Discovery itself is not involved in.
Actually, I wonder if DSC's portrayal of the Klingons has driven this release as opposed to it being a standalone release of the New Orleans. I mean, they've never had the sort of profile as a continuing protagonist that they did in DSC Season 1, so perversely this may be revalidating Cryptic's "red v blue" legac y model.
The KDF will get the Disco bop,,and it will probably be cstore to offset the FED slew of ships incoming-weird thiing is i like the design.Make a change to fly a giant mechanical bird.
I also prefer the Walker over the Crossfield. Not sure if thats just me.

Sarcasm or not, I don't care for "real" classifications, these are starships and not navy ships. There are no "battleships" in Star Trek, at least not in Starfleet. "Escort" is a official classification used in canon. However, all the "dreadnaught cruiser tactical battlecarrier destroyer recon science wingman" nonsense is indeed annoying and a bit confusing
Starfleet's heaviest ships should be "Explorers" - that's what the Galaxy and Sovereign were classified as in canon. "Cruisers" given a pre- or suffix to designate a function also works for me, "Escorts" are fine. But anything labelled "destroyer" should actually be a "frigate". What is a "recon destroyer" supposed to do? Shoot surveillance satellites?

Bit like saying which is more exciting Ferrari or Ford-both car manufactures sell those products to do the same thing.
But the rich Kids will usually think Ferrari is hotter.
In the end regardless of who gets what,or what the damn things are called-the only important things about those ships are the stats-layout/mastery and console.
No they will not make you a better player, but how useful will they be.

To be fair, and NO offense intended here, some players will have decided they're buying them anyway.
Some buy ships because they collect ships. Some because they like to have all the canon ships STO has to offer. Some will because the NO is their favorite class.
Most pefer to wait until more info is available - but not everyone.

Yeah - I gave up trying to make any sense of STO's ship designations a LONG time ago. Actually, I think it was when the AGT three-nacelle Galaxy class appeared and they decided that was a 'Galaxy-X'Dreadnought'.
Ridiculous designation. Ridiculous name. And a nasty case of https://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/XMakesAnythingCool
