I want Origins to be epic, but I fear it wont be. We know (from the series - of which this is intended to be a direct prequel of) that the Stargate doesn't get activated until years later, so if anything, this prequel series will be more Indiana Jones and less Stargate, if any Stargate itself.
I think I'd have preferred a reboot. I'm not quite sure where the draw is to creating a Stargate show that doesn't involve gate travel, other worlds, and the Goa'uld.
In 1939 Egypt, Catherine Langford and her father face a foreboding threat when a TRIBBLE officer arrives at the warehouse where they are studying the Stargate.
There appears to be an active Stargate there - which shouldn't be possible until a few years to come when Daniel Jackson figures it all out. Intriguing.

Ernest Littlefield and Catherine's father did activate the Stargate in 1945, but it was permanently shut down after that until Daniel Jackson. After all, what is the point of a Stargate if you can't return?
The issue is whether Catherine knew it was a Stargate in this series or when she was much older. AFAIK, she didn't know about the original Stargate program in 1945. So her father and fiancee were part of it, but kept her in the dark.
Of course, this could all be a reboot similar to Star Trek 2009. Stargate: Continuum had time travel and travelled back in time to 1939. So the timeline in The Torment of Tantalus could be different from the end of Stargate: Continuum and Stargate: Origins is a continuation of Continuum not of the original Stargate timeline. Another possibility is that Stargate: Origins is the prologue of a new Stargate series set in a parallel universe.
So in all that, the reason the Goa'uld wanted to attack Earth was because a German officer with delusions of god-hood lost his temper? Just how does Apophis fit into this considering how long a human body can last with a goa'uld inside? Considering how the Goa'uld were able to remember the address 55 years later and send a raiding party out for a potential queen with Apophis in personal attendance. I often wondered what happened between the time after the guards were killed and the response from the rest of the base, including General Hammond. What interested me is why Apophis waited before moving out with Teal'c and the captured female soldier.
Interesting. that answer might come a bit later.
T6 Miranda Hero Ship FTW. Been around since Dec 2010 on STO and bought LTS in Apr 2013 for STO.
When you said SGO, my first thought was that you meant Star Gate Online..... I'm sad that that project folded..... turns out we saw part of the in-development game in SG:U.

It's a true shame the game was cancelled (sorry for getting your hopes up). I figure SGO simply came at the wrong time - when the franchise was seemingly on it's way out. With any luck, SGO (origins) will pave the way for a new show that'll draw in an audience that'll result on the game being looked at once again.
I'm beginning to dislike Origins, the Catherine Langford character is far too aggressive and it's practically putting a one sided view on the story rather negatively, rather than it being about the discovery about the gate, aliens and exploration, it's instead about a rescue attempt and everything else is either shooting at one another and or misunderstanding without any consideration to what is going on outside of Catherine and her allies.
I also don't like that camera spin at the end of each 10 minute episode.
See what episode 6 brings next week.
