PvE queues....#thestruggle

Seriously, since the new update to the PvE queues, I'm finding it takes significantly longer to queue for a match. Even running "primary" missions like infected and crystalline catastrophe are taking significantly longer to get started. Is this due to the update you think or lack of players? Grinding for marks is just taking too long recently.

Am I the only one who RRRRRRRRRAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAGES when a bunch of people queue for an STF, then decline it when it pops? I hate that. If you aren't ready to fly the mission, don't flipping queue for it!

I think it's more due to the fact there are too many queues, and 'Choice of Marks' packages are making people too lazy to run queues which are more involving to play. CCA, ISA, Borg RA and Tholian RA are practically all that is run now. Choice of Marks packs need to be removed. When this is done, people will return queues. Limited Choice of Marks would be better.

Lol had that the other night queued for Miner Elite and it popped 3 times, each time it failed to load because someone didn't accept their invite.

Hello rubber banding my old friend, time to bounce around the battlezone again, where are all my bug reports going?, out of love with this game I am falling, As Cryptic fail to acknowledge a problem exists, Shakes an angry fist, And from Support all I'm hearing are the sounds of silence.

I myself have had a few timeout cause I see the ETA and assume I have enough time to use the restroom and grab a drink, only to come back just as I run out of time to accept.

I pin some of the blame on the revamped queue system it has been god awful with queues being deader then ever. Plus the "player match" thing an awesomely bad idea that killed the queues. Pre quque revamp the top wait for a queue that I wanted was under 10 minutes now I have waited over a half hour before sayng bleep this noise. Crytic shot itself in the rear end with thise queue revamp.

Yeah, I am not sure what "player match" signifies. In the past it was simple as queuing up the mission and then waiting for enough players to queue up as well, then click the accept button when the windows to accept or decline option appears. Did "player match" always exist in the background and Cryptic simply decide to create a notification for it?

I had several instances where the game automatically accepts the mission without me clicking on the accept button. The accept / decline window would pop up, then a couple of seconds later the mission starts without me even touching the mouse.

I'm simi-new so I might be wrong. But I think the ques should pop regardless if full and have the enemies as they are.

I did an advanced disconnected and two players left early in. One by obvious disconnect since the game started spamming me with their name has joined/left the group messages.

We finished it no failures it just took a little longer than normally. But was definately doable with two ships short. So why can't we que without needing full groups or responses?

Cryptic castrated roughly 40% of the DPS that was available to players with the release of Season 13. That pulled out quite a few match-runners out of ISA and CCA. Why try to improve when Cryptic takes it away once you get there? Almost no games form in the DPS channels anymore. ISA pugs pop as rarely as a lot of the other maps by now. It’s dead Jim.

Looks like all those “I hate it that peeps only queue for ISA and CCA” finally got their wishes fulfilled.

Best part is that they probably still believe that peeps played ISA and CCA to get easy rewards all the time. If there were truly any players with such a motivation around I suppose the new Ferengi admiralty campaign in addition to the Klingon one will take care of them as well so it does not even matter anymore.

Mission accomplished! Aside from private/fleet environments teamed PvE is dead in STO.

I hate to agree with this (since I thought that the balance was needed) but this is true. I know a lot of people who've stopped playing after the "balance" pass. We did call it back then, that nerfs might have this effect.

On another note, those people actively calling for nerfs aren't here anymore either. They got what they wanted, now many of them seem to be gone too.

By any chance could you comment on the current ISA situation and how you feel about it? I know for certain that with one exception maybe there haven’t been any ISA anymore that "don’t even last a minute". Is the game finally better now?

Whatever, on a more constructive tone I noticed much more activity in my fleets/community. Especially new players or those which took long breaks begin to appreciate active play more again than those drowning in rewards. Playing with friends also bonds together more than ever and we kind of only have teamed PvE for that. In a way it feels good but the moment you need one or two more players to get a match running you are likely to run into problems.

No. It's annoying sure - no argument there, but in real terms, who knows why it was declined? Heck - I've had occasions where I've had to either decline, or simply missed the 'accept' box, due to unexpected off-game occurences.

Or sometimes the 'Accept' box just doesn't show up at all.

'Declined', at this point, could just mean something as simple as "I, the new UI, got confused again, because my makers didn't bother to fix all the bugs in me."

Summer event is possibly one cause at the moment. Though that is a minor disturbance, there are still people wanting to do other content I'd wager.

The biggest issue by A COUNTRY MILE is the horrendous, terrible, insulting and downright broken/archaic queue UI they forced upon us.
Firstly it opens up with a mind boggling array of queues which probably puts people off right away.
Then it makes it a massive chore just to find the queue you want and to actually queue for it. No more double click and you're queued, now it's at least 3 different actions just to get listed for the one you want.
Now supposed you want to change your mind and drop one queue but stay listed for others? Haha sucker you can't do that without dropping the lot!
Now consider what happens when the queue pops....it may, or may not actually give you a prompt to accept. And often it will just start of it's own accord with no warning.
And tried making a private match recently? What a carry on and trip through hell that is.

Honestly, if the sight of dead or low queue numbers doesn't put people off already the nightmare of a UI probably means a lot of players simply cannot be bothered with them anymore. They just can't be there's wasting time fighting a horrible UI to get at the content.

I don't think that has as heavy an effect as some may think. Past summer events didn't lower queue participation to this level during my play times.

Perhaps an increasing number of players don't actually enjoy the queue events and prefer to do other things?
  • meimeitoomeimeitoo Member Posts: 12,594 Arc User
A decreasing number of players means a snowball effect will take place: if ppl have to wait too long, they either quit the queue, or (worse) rarely bother to queue for it any more altogether. Tried to queue for something as benign as CCA, the last few days. Had to wait like 20 minutes, then I bailed.

When the queues are truly dead, that will probably signify the end of the game for me: not out of rage, but simply because doing queues is about the only thing left to do.

Yes that's what i felt too, i just included it as a possible cause, some players will be grinding out lolnuts or whatever.

But i don't recall a big drop in players in queues like this from the summer event, or even the omega events in the past. There was always somebody running an ISA or HSE or CCA even with the events on. These days getting a pug run of those to pop can take upwards for 10-20 mins on occasion ,that is unheard of in the past as far as i can tell.
Even the DPD channels seem deserted, something i'd not expect to see.
And if you fancy playing something less popular like the Undine or Herald queues then god help you, even the newer CPVP missions are dead.

Possibly something that merits a thread in it's own right really - not convinced that a thread pertaining delays in queues 'popping' is the correct place to discuss my feelings about ISA.

Even so, I can't say I would be overly interested in engaging in discussion about it anyway; you were always somewhat pejorative when it came to my opinion of ISA and considering the fact that the question was rhetorical anyway I don't think there is much to discuss.

No I was really interested in your option about it. I mean you were always moaning about the OPness of some player’s builds leading to short match durations. Now with so many of these players out of the way I figure it should be paradise for you. I mean 10 minutes+ ISA should be easily possible now…. That is if u get the map to pop in the first place when there is nobody left around wanting to play it of course. ;)

For me it's a combination of things, most or all of them mentioned in the thread.

A little bit of fatigue and lingering resentment toward my fellow players from the Mirror waitfest. Summer event plays only a small part, as I'd rather farm the exchange for lolwuts. Admiralties and such do take some time, but not enough to stop me from playing the game if I want to. Problem is, I don't really want to.

Nerfs left ground game simply suckier than before. Less fun, more cooldowns, pointless changes to accomodate the three or four people who do ground PvP in STO at the cost of watering down PvE. Space nerfs I don't mind as much, although I do understand people who put serious time and effort (and money) into their builds ragequitting. Say it with me: player investment retains value. And a clip of Jonah J. Jameson bursting into laughter.

But the worst part, the absolutely worst part, is the unconscionably horrendous queue UI. In what world is it acceptable to push something so inconvenient and functionally broken upon the customers? The fact that it's -still- neither fixed nor reverted leaves me a bit shocked. Astounding incompetence or some kind of corporate sabotage? Whatever. I'll click my admiralties once per day, get my vouchers and log the frak off if queue no pop.

TL;DR nerfs suck queue UI sucks worse aint nobody got time for this kinda waiting

    I'm still here :P
[but then I was not actively calling for specific nerfs but for need of rebalancing to remove stacked up powercreep....]

as for the main topic - from what I see the issue seems to be distributed between several UI lag-lige behaviours and overal lack of wish to play the queues anymore

PS. and I actually like new queue UI

Oh I absolutely do. Still I was hoping that the deconstruction of one of the very few working queues left would have made at least some sort of sense. ;)

How about CCA then @reyan01? As you know high particle and kinetic builds still melt the entity in a flash. Much too fast for my taste. How about I start crying about torpedo spread and gravimetric rifts for a few months? Perhaps cryptic throws out a few more balance checks then and we have that map killed off by S15 as well.

I personally ama bit tired. Much events lately.New UI isn't that bad, it slichtly got more updates since the start.
Binairy Circuit gave me alot of fun, and actually made me hungry for more ground ques.
The all mark options from last few months events, and easier to get marks dailly from Red alerts makes specific ques less interesting to sign up for, killing there popularity/neccasity in the progress.
Last shuttle event was nice, but annoying, the 5-people ques filled up. The 5-5-5-5 aka 20-people puggs keept in 19 ready-> cancelled due 1 player not accepting ->3hour loop. Took the fun out of shuttle event. At 1 point i gave up, since i tried 1 fleet shuttle alert and the 1 not accepting loop took rest of all run ques before of 30 minute cooldown.
And offcourse its vacation times. Some gamers melt now of higher temperatures (oh god the light...)
For the moment i will grab my dally fleet marks in CCa which takes me max 2 min of waiting at the moment, and then complain about the sand between my slippers while im annoying my fellow Risian visitors.

CCA, BRA, and BCE are the only ones I queue for and frankly the queue times are iffy. CCA which is probably the quickest can now take a good couple of minutes whereas it used to be near instant. BCE by contrast can take 10-30 minutes to pop successfully. I have tried the odd other queue but frankly it's a waste of time. Nobody plays them!
