The Mirror Universe event is driving me mad! Yesterday I had a group where four players just sat at the warp in point and went afk. Another thing I have seen are people warping into the event then they leave and rejoin the team over and over and over until the U.S.S. Stadi comes into play then they stay and kill it to get their marks. Some people just fly around in a big circle around the outside perimeter doing absolutely nothing until the first half of the event is over, just get rid of the first half maybe if the event was five minutes instead of fifteen people would actually do it. It is really frustrating to have to deal with this and I wish Cryptic would put something in place where you have to actually play and stay connected to get the reward. You can report the players doing this but Cryptic do not care at all.

Mirror is a waiting mission. To win, you wait 12 minutes for the dreadnought to spawn, then kill it.
There are people in the game who are smart enough to find something useful to do while waiting, instead of stupid meaningless optionals. Personally I do my admiralty, doff, R&D and rep projects.
And then there are those who come to the forums to whine, every single time it runs, how "frustrating" it is everyone doesn't want to jump through hoops for peanuts with them. I'd advise them to relax and find something less frustrating to do, but people never listen.
Whenever I see some other player doing something I do not like I have a choice to make:
1) I can come in here and rave about other STO players.
2) I can try harder to not notice the things some other players do while playing.
3) I can turn off the game and go outside and play ball.
I get it, OP. I really really do. Some of the things I have seen in this game over the years still blow my mind. It is easy to get aggravated at their actions. Or in this case inaction. It is even easier to vent here. I am all for the restorative effects of giving someone a good and proper telling off. Lord knows most of us deserve one at least once a day.
But in the end, despite how it feels all better after expressing righteous indignation, nothing is going to change. Mirror Invasion was changed from its earlier (and far better) format to this thing. Why? Because someone somewhere at PWE/Cryptic decided the only thing which counted for quality gameplay was ensuring players spend a specific amount of time logged in.
Not what they were doing while logged in. Minutes matter. Metrics matter. Quality entertainment does not.
Since someone somewhere at PWE/Cryptic does not care enough as to what players are doing, we have this thing which sucks up time like a vampire at a blood bank. With Live-Action NPCs who fill otherwise empty slots and no other contributions.
In the end, the only way to get PWE/Cryptic's attention is to not play the content. Despite the reward attached to it. I used to do the old Mirror Invasion as often as I could on as many characters as I could. I really enjoyed the old one a lot and there was no place on the map for someone to 'sit this one out'. The rewards were c&%$ola but I did not care. I was having fun playing STO.
This one? Once per day on a character which needs the Marks for a specific piece of gear. That's it. Then I go and do other things during my limited time ingame. Not going to waste a second of it on something where people can "play" an Event by doing nothing at all. But it is not their fault. You see, PWE/Cryptic encouraged and allowed them to do so with a poor design.
A six year old boy and his starship. Living the dream.
Hahaha, I often felt like spouting a similar rant, after 3 days of wall-to-wall MIA between me and my alt. But I never did, so thank you, OP, for doing it for me.

Pretty much agree here. I used to love this when players actually took part. Warpangel thinks the smart thing to do is to Doff etc whilst everyone else does the hardwork. The real smart thing is for Cryptic to enable a better AFK system that punishes players for not taking part. What's the point of teamwork when people like Warpangel openly refuse to even take part and exploit the system!?
Personally I do not want an easy ride. STO is becoming more and more like Farmville with STF's cut short and people demanding more free stuff. I'd especially like marks to only be available in the actual STF's where they are 'related'. The very fact they put Competitive Marks into Choice of Marks packages has already hit the CPvE queues, and it's the reason why most of the queues aren't triggering, as per the sheer number of posts about this. Even ships are now so close to each other in performance that they are now nothing but glorified 'costumes'.
Cryptic did a great job in rebalancing skills, they now need to rebalance ships so people have a real reason to be interested in buying one. A T6 Miranda, given its size, should never be a match for a Galaxy Class ship, never mind a Universe Class! It even has comparable HP (88k Hull on my main) to a Jupiter, despite it's size! And don't get me started on weapon slots. Common sense has gone out the window when it comes to ship balance.
"You don't want to patrol!? You don't want to escort!? You don't want to defend the Federation's Starbases!? Then why are you flying my Starships!? If you were a Klingon you'd be killed on the spot, but lucky for you.....you WERE in Starfleet. Let's see how New Zealand Penal Colony suits you." Adm A. Necheyev.
That naming and shaming is going to work out for you. I get it, sometimes you encounter bad players, jerks and trolls. We all do. Most of us note it and move on because bad players are usually willfully bad/indifferent and jerks and trolls are what they are, and are loving the attention they get in butt-hurt posts like this.
I've only seen someone talk in chat once. He advised the others to make the upgrading of the station 'top priority'.
So more communication isn't always beneficial
But in the end it doesn't matter. As long as I get my Mirror mark thingy, I'm happy. At least MIA provides something of a challenge when 1 player is giving bad advice to the team, 2 others stay cloaked or dead and whenever they do try to do something, you quickly notice they're all incompetent. Or at least not competent enough for that specific mission.
Why in Heaven's name are you doing Mirror Invasion on Advanced? Do it on Normal, get your dohicky, and be done with it.
Cryptic fixed the problem of people having to wait around for a long time after closing all the rifts in Phase I....they upped the number of rifts you need to close. This morning was the first time since this started where we had to wait around, for less than a minute at that; we closed 40. That may be the new trigger point. I have not noticed any AFK, but then I am too busy closing and powering up and fighting to notice.
Never had those problems in BCE either. I certainly wouldn't be jumping off bridges in protest either.
If people just did what they were supposed to, at least giving it a best effort instead of trying to game the system we wouldn't have these problems.

People are giving it a best effort. Just not in the way you want.

Yeeeaaa... as pointed out, naming and shaming is against forum rules.
That said... I've had my fair share of bad runs. People only knowing how to shoot and not puzzle in Binary, leaving me stranded on an invisible path over an abyss. Luckily I've been luckier in the Mirror Event so far. Granted Mirror isn't conducive to communication due to how frantic it can get. Can't spare the seconds to type even a simple response.
But that's basically life in an MMO. Trolls happen.Bad PUGs happen. While I agree that a better AFK penalty system might help a bit, there isn't much we as players can do if we get teamed up with people who only want to AFK farm, don't know what to do and refuse to ask, or even outright try to sabotage you for teh lulz.
Ok... the trolls we can actually report, but that's about as far as we can go.
Anyways...
Now we just need the Geordie rolling under the door gif.
The real question should be why are players so damn lazy? Every now and then I will run into a group that expects one guy to do all the work for them. It really pisses me off when I run into one of these groups. I spend dozens of hours trying to build my ship for teamwork. My ships becomes useless when the team isn't working together with each other.

Also, inb4lock
That's not the players. That would be the Warp-In Bug that has been in the game for quite some time.
I don't think that's what he meant. It's something like this:
player x joins the team
player x leaves the team
player x joins the team
player x leaves the team
...
I don't know why it happens, if it's intentional or not but it's pretty annoying.
It's too fast to be intentional. Probably severe connectivity issues on said player's side.
