I don't know if I want to or not it's just that I tryed out the new pve mission queus that came out this week and didn't really enjoy it that much. All i wanted to do was just shoot stuff quick not solve puzzles just to open a big stupid door just so myself and the other Captains can get to the objective's. I also noticed that one or two players was just sitting there doing nothing while the 3 of us was doing the work.
Also are there other way's to get competitive marks if not I think I'm might as well skip this one

God forbid for game to actually challenge you sometimes, like there is not enough of mindless shooting and bullet sponges npcs already
thats cause most trekkies hate star trek. oh the like the idea but they hate pretty much everything that was in the shows, books, movies, whatever.
if I stop posting it doesn't make you right it. just means I don't have enough rum to continue interacting with you.
l don't know.

There is currently no way to get competitive marks other than through the new queues. Unlike previous reputations these marks are not available through Red Alerts (at least not yet).
There is yet another queue for competitive marks due to be released so perhaps that one will tickle your fancy.
Personally i don't dislike the queues, but i dislike the spacebar smash attitude and ignore team chat from players which annoys me. The latter is why i hope the competitive marks will be added to Red Alerts and/or warzones.
i will do for my first character and the two that have heavy weapons slots but this will be the first time i don't do with all until there is an alternative source of the marks. to gather 600 for each through these missions is too much for me - too tedious and time-consuming. I hope for the parrots.
"With the first link, the chain is forged. The first speech censured, the first thought forbidden, the first freedom denied, chains us all irrevocably."
It still pops, but more slowly than earlier in the week.
Part of this may be due to the fact that the holographic bridge requires teamwork and if you get a team with zero cooperation then you cannot get past the first hurdle and end up with a mere 5 marks (this has actually happened to me today).
It's a queue where you HAVE to work as a team to get past the hurdles and where you're f-ed if you end up with a team of leeches or incompetent players.
really like the new ground CPvE queue tbh, not so fond of the space one, but that is just my taste
So far I've been lucky, I haven't had a problem getting into a team and so far all the times I've done it it worked out well. The last few times there were actually people volunteering to activate the bridge console to get others across. Maybe it also has to do with what time you try to queue for them.

They....are in withdrawal??? Maybe? J/K
But is it really that surprising?
I think it shows the rift between the stuff PC players want and how Console players like to play...they may as well have two different STO games.
Unless someone can get it together and teach some PvP counters and tactics to the PvE players. And PvE players are willing to learn something other than DPS set ups. "Does not bode well" is fitting for this format or this "season". Maybe the "Ship Builds" and "Media Corps" can get the You Tube videos going.....
And on the PvP side...there needs to be a culture change. Drive out those who are doing nothing but trolling.
Doubt either one of these will happen this late in the game.

This has been a problem though for a long time. Just throw in one random group of enemies being in between your starting position and the mission goal with no other influence than being there, and 60% of players will shoot them instead of caring about what the goals are.
Have not had the energy for it since the Terran rep and after i slugged through that we had the temporal and now we have two more it has lost its charm and overall worth to me.
Interesting...
I'm sure you can get the marks without doing the rep specific queues themselves. You may not get the elite marks but you can get the marks at least to get to Tier 5 and get the rewards at the end.
Indeed. When PuGing for this, there's always a risk of being teamed with toxic individuals that will start getting verbally abusive if your DPS output isn't meeting their "expectations" (as if they had any legitimacy to boss people around, but that's another story...). Nevermind, of course, that you actually worked to solve the puzzles while they were going pew-pew...
And yes. It happened to me days ago already, and we're barely one week into the new season... Some guy whose name i will keep untold started threathening us to either "grow a pair and win", or he'd start reporting us for failing...
Funnily enough, we won, and by a nice margin at that
It's a pity, really, because this new content could be actually entertaining if it wasn't already plagued by people whose ego is larger than the Jenolan Dyson Sphere. And please note, this comes from a player who initially thought he'd not take part in that new reputation at first, but ended up appreciating it !

More to the point, the PVP element of Core Assault means that being a glass cannon can make you a liability - had an interesting game last night which also references the point below...
My team were later to the core, so my NX-beamscort took up defensive duties on our core. Looks like the other team had glass cannons, as even the pair (!) of Vengeance-classes were repeatedly fragged; in conjunction with a teammate, we were able to repeatedly knock out the opposing team and therefore (narrowly!) won.
Point is; "vaping" is a valid tactic in Core Assault, as it protects your core (or colleagues attacking the enemy core). And traditional ISA DPS-Uber-Alles builds are a potential liability against intelligent opponents who can do unsporting things like evade past your BFAW.
I wouldn't necessarily say "most". Many, certainly. But many also like a slight change of pace in their game, not being one dimensional but indeed having multiple aspects to the experience.
How much the puzzles in STO are contributing to that is another matter, which I will answer for myself with "it differs wildly".
That's it, folks. In 2017, knowing how to simply align 2 colors, keeping mashing buttons to keep a path revealed and avoiding glowy balls in corridors with alcoves and only one possible path, are considered "puzzles" and not fun.
Great freaking Scott!
Given the 'not solve puzzles' bit, could it be that those other captains weren't actually sitting doing nothing but were in fact either healing up in the cube or sitting with no shields because they were holding the door keys? Just saying, there might be a pretty decent chance that just because you don't like the mission or seemingly understand it, doesn't mean others aren't actually doing something you're not aware of.
And I mean really, you think THAT is a puzzle or some kind of challenge. Wow...
Stop new content until quality returns
I agree. We're too entrenched into this "Lone Wolf, I can blow up the whole galaxy" mentality. That needs to change. We need more cooperative content to foster a change in this behavior somehow.
Well... those are kinda basic RPG puzzles. The "dodging dangerous objects" puzzle I've seen variations of in other games. Most notably Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past, and made a return in A Link Between Worlds.
The Invisible Floor puzzle is another common one.
Typically the player is given some means to detect the floor, either by pushing a block and figuring out where the path is by where the block falls, or an item that allows you to see the hidden floor.
I know those are basic puzzles seen a lot and that shouldn't pose any trouble.
But when you read some comments, you feel like players are finding themselves facing myst-level puzzles that needs a patient, methodic, scientific mind to be processed and are slowing them down.
