its too early to say.
and so what if its the 'REAL' reason. Needed to be done anyways
^This. Needed to be done anyway. Balancing makes it possible for them to do PvP.

l don't know.
l really don't know what l'm about to say, except l have a feeling about it.
That l must repeat the words that come without my knowledge.'
Definetely, it will be interesting to find out what turns out but expect lots of bugs in the few days following launch.
Federation and republicans must feel the wrath of Terran, Imperial, and Klingon Defense Forces!
I don't know....those PvP competitive races during the events never turn out quite right...always something that some folks will make advantage of / or make short cuts out of. And I don't like them.
And picking a set team and matching it to a pick up group...still a problem not addressed.
And still a problem if one team lays down, so the other team wins...rinse, repeat.

A 'Royal Rumble' option would be awesome.
I'm very happy to see this. Career choice should matter a lot more and this is one way of doing it. Hopefully it will give all careers a way to contribute in their own way as well.
With that said, a new feature episode, a new rep and more class-specific gear aren't bad things.
This argument remains invalid no matter how many variations on it are repeated. You were never guaranteed that a single in-game item would forever function as it did the day you acquired it. In fact, you were emphatically told the opposite.
That's what they stated a while back in the past...from the blog it might be hinting towards it.

All this rebalancing is going to do is appease people in the short term but within 6-9 months after new ships and gear/equipment get released we will be sliding back to the old state of PvP where power creep has started to unbalance things again.
Balancing them separately would be a lot easier to manage where PvE won't affect PvP and vice versa.
Hello rubber banding my old friend, time to bounce around the battlezone again, where are all my bug reports going?, out of love with this game I am falling, As Cryptic fail to acknowledge a problem exists, Shakes an angry fist, And from Support all I'm hearing are the sounds of silence.
I myself have not spent much on DPS builts. However, no matter how it is said there were lots of great players who left this MMO when DR launched...and yes specially those who were great at PvP. That is why IMO this change is too late to fix something that has been broken for a long while. It is not just DPS but also hardcore PvP players who have been affected.
I hope this will bring fresh new players to STO and re-start that side of the game again. However, your guess as good as mine.
Unless they plan to make all available ships and equipment in the game freely available in PvP, in which case disregard the above...
Sure, it's nice that the PvPers get a little and all that (gotta throw everyone a broken bone every now and then) but I just feel a season should have more than a rep, a few minor tweaks and 2-3 missions?
Agreed. Seasons used to be so much more...
Seems like you're selling S13 a tad short...
- Rebalancing changes, affecting all 3 careers and most ships/builds/skills to some degree
- New Rep
- New FE
- New mechanic for escorts
- New matchmaking system
- New type of indirect PvP, in the form of competitive PvE
- Etc.
More than just "a few minor tweaks"
I am talking about 12... should have mentioned that..
That said... The rebalancing is already ongoing...
A new rep?`So what... there is nothing really new about that.
The rest is somewhat appealing but still...
I think Devs just decided to call it Season 13 to make it more "palatable" to those peeved by the ongoing balancing. With the amount of nerfs coming I'm sure from their end there was lot of work done. It would have been better to call it 12.5 season but Devs' call.
