What makes it more funny is that it is always, ALWAYS, the EXACT same argument in every MMO.

    >I spent a lot of time and money getting the gear so I could use this CLEARLY overpowered and exploit based build, and now the devs have ruined it!... They just HATE EVERYONE and are trying to get us to spend more money... it has NOTHING to do with balance or anything like that!

Usually followed up by some demand of a refund of the in-game cash they spent to get said gear as if they are owned a refund for exploiting the game.

This needs to be quoted on every page in this thread from now on imo

Yet again, all the devs think sci is, is either heal boat or EPG and nothing else. I can boost EPG and heals just as high as the skills that got left of getting a % based boost. Seems fair after subsystem targeting got royally nerfed.

    Totally agree with this.

And they really need to rethink the horrible decision of making Subnuc available as a boff skill tac captains can use.

I agree as well. I've actually think that engineers should always be thought of as THE healers. It's weird to me that two classes could be considered healers, per the wiki. Science is about debuffing, control, etc in my opinion. I think most people who make a science toon don't make it be a healer.

Science captains are healers Engineers are power specialists.

Scattering Field would be a much better choice for being a BOFF ability, rather then making Subnuke a BOFF ability. Having a 3 minute BOFF ability feels like a wasted slot. Just water down Scattering Field and drop the cooldown to BOFF levels, ~30 sec

Engineers are the healers only they have more of a focus towards high hull hit points, hull healing and bringing systems back online. Sci have better shields and better shield healing. That's why sci ships get a bonus to shields and Eng ships get a bonus to hull.

since yesterday's patch was up on redshirt, tribble is being prepared for a season release - which means the rebalance won't be hitting holodeck for at least a month

Both careers can be competent space healers, eng just focus on hull more while sci focuses on shields more.

    Long short of it..

Sci = Healing more and defensive contro boost.
    Tact = Full on offensive
Eng = Somewhere in between both.

    IMO..

As for subnuc the only defense against it is sci team..Againsy a smart sci cap who will first play whack a mole with your shields forcing you to use all your shield heal abilities including sci team then hit you with subnuec then you pretty much dig deep and hopefully evade and ride it out till the effect is over..

I'd rather see a situation where each career had multiple play style options:

Tac: DPS focusing on weapon abilities and attack patterns / evasion style tanking

Sci: space wizardry DPS / shield healer / shield tank

Eng: DPS focused on manipulation of power levels / hull healer / hull tank

Might actually use stuff labeled point defense for your point defense needs :).

And once again you're trotting out the Zen and Lockbox options. At what point will it sink in that those are not valid responses to something that should have a free option that works effectively. Zen and Lockbox items can operate will above a baseline but having no free and always available option that is effective at doing the job is an issue. You're not going to magically talk your way out of that. Where is the effective, always available option? (Hint, it doesn't exist so I'm REALLY looking forward to whatever double talk you use to work your way out of this one)

I just want to check - do you consider the phoenix box off limits then?

I mean, I want to get that established before any discussion of making Ec in game being a normal part of player behavior.

Ash, I already pointed you to an option is completely free via the Phoenix Prize Pack.

Lockbox Items are on the Exchange for EC. EC is free. You can get a 100M a month just from doing the Admiralty mini-game without much trouble.

C-Store Items are free via Dilithium Exchange. This will take a bit longer to gain than the EC but you can do it.

Now, please, go pick up the items and be happy. Or don't pick up the items and be happy. But don't refuse to pick up the items and then complain because you don't have them.

Ok, you kinda skipped to the punchline... but yeah :).

Can you always pick up a phoenix box? No, you can't so no that's not an option. Secondarily that console isn't effective at doing enough damage even at the levels you'd need it for. Nice try but no. Please try again.

The phoenix packs are not always available so no that's not a valid option. It's also not an effective option to use of how little damage it actually does. I've already tried it. On a character I'm leveling that I passed the token to even just mashing the space bar kills fighters and torps faster than that along with me STILL BEING HIT BY THEM so it's a joke that you're even bringing it up.

Here's my question since you're intentionally skipping around the reason for my post. How is a new player who is going through the storyline and needs to clear out the D'D torp spam and such issues that FAW is good for now going to be able to farm that 100m a month? They can't. Once again you're looking at it from an end game perspective and not a new player one.

Let me be very clear so you and nikeix can't try and twist words to get out of it.

What options does a new player have for point defense that are not a c-store purchase, always available, and not something they have to wait till almost end game and spend weeks of farming to afford? Everything you've tried to mention is either a limited time option that isn't actually all that viable to use, is a c-store purchase, or requires weeks of farming to afford when you are at end game. Please, point me to the always available option that new players have that is as effective as the current incarnation of FAW at clearing out NPC torps and fighters. I'll wait because you're going to have a damn hard time actually finding one because THEY DON'T EXIST.

This is the part you two are completely missing, intentionally at this point. You're basically saying, "TRIBBLE new players going through the story. I've got my items or can just farm up the EC on my main or high level alts to just buy whatever I need. Those noobs can just TRIBBLE off because I've got mine." We need an always available skill that's viable to use to clear out NPC torp spam and fighters. We had that but with the changes we won't. Spartan needs to address this and you two need to actually figure out how to stop thinking like a max level player and put yourself in the shoes of a new player dealing with the annoyances that we can just outright DPS past.

Just a couple important suggestions I would like you guys to take seriously.

For the Science captain ability Deflector Overcharge, you should consider making it a percent across the board. All 4 skills receiving a 50% boost from the captain ability. Given the fact that it's a captain ability and given the current sci meta, it is completely reasonable and the right way to go to make it a flat +50% to all 4.

Hot Restart. I would strongly urge you guys to consider dropping the cooldown from every 60 seconds to every 30, to help keep them useful and usable. 60 seconds is simply too long and is unreasonable. 30 seconds is quite long but makes more sense and is reasonable.

I just reread it and couldn't find it either. I am quite sure I read yesterday that the CD couldn't be reduced, perhaps they had a change of heart and that part was removed. Regardless, the adjustments above should be made. As the captain power as proposed is too underwhelming and is not adequate.

all captain powers have had a minimum CD added to them, but they should all still be able to be reduced by the few things that reduce captain power CDs up to that point, even this new one

and yes, everything on that skill should have as equal a buff as possible

woah 100 million a month from admiralty????

ok let's do some maths. The most you can get is 200,000. That would mean finding those missions 500 times or 16.6 times a day. But let's be realistic 200,000 doesn't come up that often. Nor does 100,000 (50,000 is even generous as an average). But I'll give you 100,000 for an average for the sake of the argument. So you have to find and run those 100,000 average ec missions 33 times a day each day all month. Have fun!

Doing just 8 per day per character, I tend to average a bit over 125,000 per day per character. To get 100 million per month on one character, you'd have to run somewhere around 192 assignments per day. That's a lot of babysitting.
This is an MMO, not a Star Trek episode simulator. That would make for a terrible game.

Doing just 8 per day per character, I tend to average a bit over 125,000 per day per character. To get 100 million per month on one character, you'd have to run somewhere around 192 assignments per day. That's a lot of babysitting.

    that's 30 million.

i do the admiralty every day for 7 characters but only for the tour missions - just redship the others unless i see 2000dil or sometimes the 200,000ec. When it first came out I did go for ec but after a few weeks and only making a few million i gave up on that. I applaud the dedication here. I would swallow my gun after a week of it.

1/8 million per day, roughly, for 8 assignments. To get to 3 million per day, multiply that 8 by 24, That's where I picked up 192 per day. I know it only adds up to 90 million in a month, but I did say that my average was a bit over that, so I'm rounding up rather generously. If it's even 10,000 more per cycle of 8, though, it comes out fairly close, around 97 million per 30 days.
This is an MMO, not a Star Trek episode simulator. That would make for a terrible game.

It's also not an effective option to use of how little damage it actually does. I've already tried it. On a character I'm leveling that I passed the token to even just mashing the space bar kills fighters and torps faster than that along with me STILL BEING HIT BY THEM so it's a joke that you're even bringing it up.

It's a Plasma Weapon. Did you use it with Plasma Boosting items? Even without them it is powerful enough to block a PvE D'D's torpedo. I used it plenty of times in Borg Queues and it did a wonderful job of protecting me from their torpedoes.

How is a new player .. going to be able to farm that 100m a month? They can't. Once again you're looking at it from an end game perspective and not a new player one.

    A legitimate question, Ash.

They don't. But they also don't need to, either. Fresh characters cannot slot Ship Traits, so they don't need Lockbox ships.

They don't need Lockbox Character Traits, as those are designed for Endgame.
What options does a new player have for point defense that are not a c-store purchase, always available, and not something they have to wait till almost end game and spend weeks of farming to afford?

The 'Accurate' Trait is innately available to everyone if they are having a hard time hitting smaller objects. It can be used as soon as the first Trait Slot is open. I don't know if things have changed, but you used to be able to pick a few during Character Creation.

The 'Elusive' Trait is also a starter. It will increase their dodge rating.

A new player could equip anti-plasma armor on their ship. These are common drops and would do well against Romulan Torpedoes.

'Evasive Maneuvers' and 'Brace For Impact' are both fairly early Captain Abilities.

Simply moving would provide. Any forward movement at all increases the dodge chance. The faster that you move, the higher your dodge. That is not even taking in to consideration that Romulan Plasma Balls are super slow.
Available option that new players have that is as effective as the current incarnation of FAW at clearing out NPC torps and fighters. I'll wait because you're going to have a damn hard time actually finding one because THEY DON'T EXIST.

'B:FaW' still works, Ash. It's not going anywhere. You can still use it to shoot down torpedoes and fighters. If you are worried about your hit rate, use the aforementioned Accurate Trait to counter the accuracy loss.

Alternatively: the Tab button to target the object that you want to shoot.

Come on, man. You've been here for over half a decade. You already know this.

woah 100 million a month from admiralty????

There is a slight possibility that I may have included a teensy-weensy bit of exaggeration for the sake of making a point.

Lots of assignments give 50K to 200K and only take about fifteen minutes or so. You just have to remember that the rewards are not always shown on the preview strip.

Also, you guys are forgetting Crits, which are super easy to get with TRIBBLE Shuttles and their x5 Total Crit Chance Multiplier.

they are super slow NOW; they won't be after everything goes live, because they buffed destructible torpedo speed

that being said, the best defense is still the same as it's always been - don't let the spam trigger in the first place, which means don't get caught in the tractor beam, which means stay at least 5.1 km away at all times
