you have no T6 Connie and I have multiple of them. Who's the loser now?
It is a virtual toy designed solely to use within the game, there is absolutely zero point whatsoever to having more of them than you intend to equip to characters. If you're not flying it, you're grasping onto sand. Who's the loser, the person who wants to enjoy the game as its meant to be played or the bizarre obsessive who clings on to a worthless item made worthless by his own refusal to use it for the only purpose it can possibly have?
You have issues, seriously. I suggest therapy. That's not even an insult, that's actual concern.
Same....I see something real wrong if one gets their jollies by holding onto something he/she won't use, but won't let anyone else have..
It's like someone having, say, Batman issue #1, from 1939 or whatever, and he won't ever bother reading it, not even once, and or even having it out in some display case, to at least enjoy looking at the cover art.....just having it locked away in some safe, never to see the light of day.
You have a very strange idea of what **** looks like.
Infantile images of over-sexualized scantily clad women kinda fits the bill to me. To each their own though.
Over-sexualized? You know, back in the bad old days, pre-PC, when we could actually say what we thought, I would have openly questioned your orientation. Now, sadly, I'll have to settle for calling you a prude.
You know, if we're going to try and regress by going back in time, we could go further to the victorian era, where that topic of discussion was not at all proper for polite society. So keep your gutter talk for the flophouses please. That's how things were PRE-PC.
The 23rd Century Promo Ship event has come and gone. Cryptic has made a killing on the sales and the collectors and TOS fans have rejoiced.
Not really TOS fans did not really rejoice just read the forums sometime. Unlike KT fans who can buy thier beloved version or the Vengence just about anytime they want TOS fans got the short end RNG with a short run availaibility and NO LOBI version. I wish the RNG R&D box ran as long as the KT Lockbox has I really do.
You're taking the wrong view. Players don't hold onto ships out of spite or greed. To leverage more EC, you need to have a strong base. One of the ways to hold tons of EC is to hold some of it in items which includes ships. Maybe some players are happy with just one 23rd Century Ship. Others want ten of them. Others want 10 23rd Century ships, 5 Annoraxes, 1 Voth Bulwark, 15 Jem'Hadar Bugships, 10 Zahls, 10 Astikas, and every other ship in the game. They don't acquire these things by not being smart and giving stuff away.
The wrong view? These items are VIRTUAL TOYS, their value exists solely in the form of A.) being played with and enjoyed or B.) traded for virtual currency with which to buy other virtual toys to play with. They have ZERO value beyond those two uses. So if someone just hoards them, the entire point of their existence is lost.
Nope, they have a real world value of over $175 since that is what people are paying for them. Fiat currency is "VIRTUAL MONEY" just like digital goods are "VIRTUAL TOYS" so I guess that makes perfect sense.
I get paid quite well to "THINK ALL DAY" and mold blocks of logic into digital artifacts that companies pay my employer thousands of dollars a year to license.
Did you miss the part where the only people who can make real money on this item is the game company? You can't sell it to other players for even so much as a dime, or cash in your game currency for the real thing. Only the company can do that. Unless you're admitting here you're breaking the law by selling for cash?
I really don't get the hoarding mentality. The point of in-game items is to enjoy playing the game with them. The point of in-game currency and in-game item trade is to get items to use to play and enjoy. NONE of it has ANY other value but in-game enjoyment. If you're never going to fly it, why have it? If you're never going to spend it on items you're going to play, why have it and why seek more of it? It's useless beyond what it does to enhance your play of the game. It has absolutely no other function.
If you're seeking pretend money for its own sake because you like pretending to be an investment banker, why aren't you playing a virtual stock market game or something? I mean, sure it's your time and effort to waste but it really seems silly to make a side portion of the game that only exists to facilitate the main game the focus of obsession.
As for me, I don't care about what the value of items are in the game beyond the difficulty they present to me gettign what I want for my characters to play. I want a T6 Connie because the TMP Enterprise is my first love in Star Trek, otherwise I wouldn't care. I never went for other lockbox or promo ships, I couldn't care less for the holy bugship or whatever, but I care about this one because I've loved that ship for decades and it perfectly fits my main character's style. When I have one, it'll be a mix-n-match of 2280s exterior and 2260s interior and I will never take her out of that ship unless a better version of the same thing becomes necessary for endgame.
The investment mentality completely puts the cart before the horse. The items and the currency exist to facilitate gameplay, not the other way around. I can't understand how people can be so delusional to think it has any other purpose or that seeking it for its own sake is anything but a waste of time. Play the game, enjoy the game, the points don't matter only the experience.
You've missed the point, the point is to get more every day.
It's right there in the Star Trek canon for anyone to see, it's the 18th Rule of Acquisition
"A Ferengi without Profit is no Ferengi at all."
To hell about jug ears with his profit. He'd find a way to make people pay for breathing air if he could ~facepalm~
Why are the sellers being accused of trying to control how people play this game?
Did everyone forget the 20 hour cooldowns? We play when they let us play.
As for the moral judgements, let them play Ferengi, it's how I was able to get my Connie without being subjected to gambling which is a far bigger outrage to me.
I can't wait until the second to next Infinity Lockbox comes out. I will get a Kelvin Constitution for less than 140 million EC. That will probably be around STO Anniversary time or so.
Much better looking ship anyway.
I will never buy from the Private Channels. 'You will never find a more wretched hive of scum and villainy'... than in there. Oh wait, wrong franchise. Well maybe not anymore that JJ is doing both. Metaphors can easily get mixed.
I always counter that Rule 18 with Rule 239, also from canon 'Never be afraid to mislabel a product'. We got a lot of that going on here. Like people looking for annoyance exploits labeling themselves as 'Insect Stalkers'.
Better than image spam of Communist dictators that's for sure. Speaking of Communists, next year is the 100th Anniversary of the October Revolution. When the rerun comes, the people hoarding the ship will be among the first up against the wall.
Well like Mr. Sulu, I think I have hit all the buttons on the console.
'Say Goodnight Gracie.'
'But to be logical is not to be right', and 'nothing' on God's earth could ever 'make it' right!'

l really don't know what l'm about to say, except l have a feeling about it.
That l must repeat the words that come without my knowledge.'
So much words. Geez. You guys like cranking out these freakin long essays, huh? If you want the ship so bad you can buy it from an online game auction site for $185- $200 and be done with the bitter butthurt-ness. Player Auction dot com is a good one. Cheers!

....You guys really hate the idea of collecting stuff and perhaps need some therapy. What's the point of holding onto a bunch of useless virtual currency when you can have a useless virtual item... lol. I'm surprised you guys log in to the game since everything is ultimately futile.
Last night I encountered an individual that was unaware of the endgame T6 Connie.
He complimented me on how much mine looks like the Phase 2 ship and was wondering how I did it.
After explaining it to him he wondered how to get one so I told him all about the T6 Connie and how to get it using Druk's advice.
About an hour later while I was playing an STF I saw his name come across the screen as having received the T6 endgame Connie so it's a lot easier to get than a lot of people think.

Though that sounds as if he had been opening promo boxes, doesn't it? I think you open the promo pack, not when you open the ship box to get your prize.
Star Trek Online Advancement: You start with lowbie gear, you end with Lobi gear.

That's not it. What I mean is if ya got, say a rare comic book, and ya got it locked away, never to be read, or even seen, why even have it? o.o
I'm one of the people in this game who find enjoyment in collecting virtual wealth and I'll continue to do so regardless of what you think about it. You may call me whatever names you like but in the end it only boils down to one thing - you have no T6 Connie and I have multiple of them. Who's the loser now? Oh, btw... your annoyingly intrusive pictures have found a new home on my AdBlock list.
Case in point, matching two of my three types of player. Those who seek in-game wealth beyond need, and those who seek to harm other players as part of their enjoyment. As he said- to him, this is victory. This is why he plays.
And he makes Cryptic money, so let him play is what they'll do. The lockboxes and Promo ships are more for him than they are us.
The best thing the larger player base can do is to not feed this type of creature in the most extreme cases and never buy anything in the Grey Market (i.e. not on the exchange). They will still rule on the exchange, but at least they can't yank anything above the Cap and at that level are fighting only between themselves. Let trekpuppy choke on his connies.
Sadly, the larger player base isn't very aware and certainly isn't unified. So in the end, the well intentioned players lose.
But I at least can ignore them. I have never bought anything from the Grey Market, and I shall never buy anything from the Grey Market. Nothing is worth my dealing with this kind.
Yea, I don't do business in the grey areas, either in game. They require a lot more than what the average player has. Only exception to that, for me, is when I give something to someone as a present, say some torpedoes or omni's fresh out of the crafting oven. Same with friends who are short on EC, and I give them some. Also, I made a boo boo in the exchange, selling a D'kora for 11,000,000 rather than the 111,000,000 I was going to. Before I could take it back, it sold. Was annoyed by this, a friend in game asked me what's wrong, and I explained it, she gave me the EC I was going for, and it helped me a lot. And she wanted nothing in return. IF more folks could adopt this mentality, not only in game, but in the world itself, things would be a lot better overall....not the 'dog-eat-dog' mentality that those in charge of society keeps ramming down people's throats as true and only way to live. >_>
People save and invest and hope for their investments to appreciate in value in STO so we don't feel some kind of compelling need to go on the STO forums and complain about being spacepoor "have-nots" when a new shiny comes out.
I'm hoarding T6 Connie promo boxes for the next new thing I want, not for what we currently have. But then again I'm thinking about the future, not the present, and not dwelling on the past.

If you're keeping it in hopes of trade for something else you plan to use and enjoy in the game, that makes sense. Things in the game are meant to be used to play the game with, but there's nothing wrong with a bit of delayed gratification so you can get something else you want to play with later.
It's the people who never intend to play with any of the things they obsessively hoard and just rack up more and more for its own sake like this is Stock Market Online that probably need to see a doctor and get themselves on some medication for their issues.
On that I agree. I hoard and rack up money just because I can. I get some manner of enjoyment out of it. Some people like to focus on DPS numbers, I like to focus on EC numbers. The economics of STO have always been interesting to me.
I don't hoard for the sake of hoarding, as I do find myself "giving back" every once in a while. In particular during the winter event, when I'll intentionally mark down valuable stuff at a fraction of the selling price, and make somebody's day on the exchange (maybe they'll even have a laugh about it and say I dropped a few zeroes off the price accidentally, when it was entirely intentional).
I also give out stuff to fleeties on their birthdays or other important occasions at times, and reward positive behavior. In turn, they usually reward me in kind when I ask for something. I don't normally donate prizes or large sums of EC to player-run events because I'd rather see those events gather attendance for the principal of the event itself, instead of the giveaways being seen as the driving force for attendance. I do understand other fleets like Starfleet Dental do this, and it's pretty much the same principal that it's important to give back every once in a while. They just do it in a different way than I do, is all.
I'm honestly not familiar with other STO players who hoard for the sake of hoarding. If you can't inject that wealth back into the economy, then you really are just being wasteful. I can't honestly say there are that many players who do that, but even if there were, we would have no way of knowing.
A ship in this game that is not opened, flown, and loved in the process of playing the game is a complete waste. It's a gamepiece, that's all it ever was and ever will be. Hoarding it makes as much sense as hoarding the racecar token in Monopoly and demanding Monopoly money for it without even intending to play Monopoly. Anyone who insisted on doing that would be a candidate for therapy.
Prize ships are more analogous to property in monopoly. In monopoly, players acquire property based on RNG and their wealth. Sound familiar? Players can even sell and trade their property, just like prize ships in STO. Depending on house rules, the accuracy of the analogy can vary. But it's certainly more accurate than the nonsensical comparison to trying to sell monopoly avatar pieces, which no one tries to do. This fallacious comparison makes a mockery of the legitimate acquisition and sale of items within STO.
When you see "TRIBBLE" in my posts, it's because I manually typed "TRIBBLE" and censored myself.

I explained to both methods of getting a ship and the odds.
I was under the impression that a flag pops however you open the box.
